-
its CMD, what version of windows are you running?
-
not as far as i'm aware they don't

sorry we couldn't sort out the upload Tim, it's probably limited to the modem... i had an old modem a while back i couldn't get even close to my advertised speeds with so i bought a zoom ADSL modem and bam it was instantly fixed i'm glad you got the modem bridged like you wanted though and its good to hear you can now use XBox live ~ TriRan

Hi there, Welcome to testmy.net first off where are you located? quite a bit of bandwidth could be lost in the sheer milage between you and the server also check out this post: and try running a tracert to testmy.net to see if there are any spots that are overly congested To run a traceroute... Windows Start > Run > type CMD [enter] > from the command prompt type tracert google.com and/or tracert testmy.net Linux / Mac Under Applications/Utilities open 'Terminal' > type traceroute google.com and/or traceroute testmy.net Paste those results here. ~ TriRan

there is no way to really stick it to the cable company because they say they only guarantee the speeds within their network but we all know the internet is everywhere not just on a cable companies given local network thus you don't always see your advertised speeds everywhere ~ TriRan
-
Lol I thought it was kinda weird to see you on so late lastnight great work man it looks awesome ≈mark

not necessarily hard questions to answer, its just hard to be 100% certain because we don't run these companies and we don't know exactly how many nodes they have where for how many clients... the reason you will feel slower speeds during the day is because yes there is a ton more traffic on every node, traffic is heaviest at peak hours usually from around 3-4PM in the afternoon till around 10-12PM at night usually after those times you will be experiencing the least congestion for the day on just about any given node so in short you may not notice any difference if you went downtown where the infrastructure is more developed but most certainly just as saturated it all depends on how many clients are on doing what with the bandwidth they are allotted... we've gotten into some interesting discussions here before but its not only the amount of clients online but also weather that can effect internet performance CA3LE or some others can shed more light on that because i don't really have any experience with those types of things ~ TriRan
-
i was just thinking the same thing myself CA3LE, it looks like a very well put together machine there lewis not bad cable management either although i'm sure that wasn't a main concern but it looks very good ~ TriRan

what are your advertised speeds? who is your ISP? you might also start by running a speed test here and running a tracert to testmy.net ~ TriRan To run a traceroute... Windows Start > Run > type CMD [enter] > from the command prompt type tracert google.com and/or tracert testmy.net Linux / Mac Under Applications/Utilities open 'Terminal' > type traceroute google.com and/or traceroute testmy.net Paste those results here.

at 1x (edge) your looking at dial up speeds lol
-
mifi is expensive, there are very low caps in place to even get 10GB it's $80 a month and there is no unlimited service... i know i sell those devices >.<
-
not to get off topic here, but mudd i've been reading your signature for quite some time and you know in all my time with electronics i've learned one key thing, electronics and liquids do not mix.... having a fluid coming out of a laptop would be a giant warning sign to me you may want to have that thing looked at!
-
also, speeds can be affected by local hardware before the request even reaches the modem, such as wifi in heavily saturated areas will see poor performance and yes tier of service will make a big difference depending on what your trying to do with your connection, for instance say my brother wants to watch netflix on his xbox and it decides it wants to stream in HD he will be downloading a 1-2GB file from the netflix server at 1.5MB/s or 1536kB/s if my connection is only a 15Mbit connection his one stream will be reaching the max capacity of my available bandwidth which means there won't be much left over to say browse the web or upload a file to a FTP server ~ TriRan
-
i realize its not free i'm just suprised it's not an unmetered port lol
-
your not on an unmetered port? O.O i don't even want to see that bandwidth bill lol
-
weird man >.< i'm at a loss
-
Also if a format fixed it last time it could be registry related try creating a new user so that you have a fresh user reg to test on
-
wow uhm... i'm stumped. a format fixed it last time?
-
ah! yeah i used to colo dual opteron servers, they can get very expensive you could always underclock the CPU to cut down even more on power usage
-
looks awesome although if it were me i'd be going for a tad beefier CPU like the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103903 it has a lot nicer L1 and L2 cache for not a whole lot more, i actually own one of these chips and it's in my brothers computer i used to use it as my main CPU back a year or so ago
-
i've looked and looked and looked and am coming up empty on any peering information about your ISP >.< or even a site that lists peering information for ISPS lol sorry ~ TriRan
-
Welcome mcfudge to Testmy.net, i believe that happens because testmy.net doesn't know all the ip ranges for every ISP in the world. i'm not sure if CA3LE the site owner can manually add them or not, i'm pretty sure he can but he'll have to answer that for you ~ TriRan
