I downloaded 2 torrents Lastnight at around 3.5MB/s and was uploading at 150kb/s and streaming netflix all while people in another room were playing games with a very stable 60ms ping to a Texas server on my 50meg connection I don't see why your experience should be different

i think my internet is finally fixed, after cox tech #8 visited my house i've finally got a stable connection and my signals still look pretty good. persistence is key, it's taken me a little over 3 months now to get my internet fixed, a lot of hours on the phone and 8 techs and 3 maintenance techs visiting my house / neighborhood. i've had a stable connection for the last 4 days and my signals are below This page provides information about the current upstream and downstream signal status of your Cable Modem. another thing to remember is when torrenting or using any P2P software not only are you downloading, but uploading aswell. just because comcast says you have a 20Mbit down and 2Mbit up link does not mean you can achieve both max's at the same time, its really one or the other. so if your downloading at 1.5Mb/s and its not going any higher it could also be because your uploading at 150-200Kb/s which would be where the rest of your bandwidth is going so technically your connection is maxing out just not all on the downstream edit: btw i see my max all the time on torrents like CA3LE said, i usually have to have somewhere in the ballpark of 1500 connections going to achieve that though

oh yeah and telehouse london is offering colo 1Gbps link for £1500/month not sure what they charge for the rack space etc though http://www.swiftway.co.uk/ wants £1000/month for their unmetered 1Gbps
-
CA3LE are you looking for a company that rents out dedicated servers, or are you looking for a place you could colo a server of your own? because a quick search has brought up a few places that offer 1000Mbps links but i just wanted a little clarification before i look further edit: so far i've found a couple of options, lol unmetered 1Gbit isn't cheap let me tell you lol http://www.eukhost.com/ is offering umetered 1Gbps at £2999/month http://www.seedboxsales.co.uk is offering unmetered 1Gbps at £165/month and they even have 10Gbps starting at £800/month not really sure how their network is or what datacenter they are in lol bandwidth seems more expensive in the UK than here at least from what i've seen http://www.webhosting.uk.com/ is only £4000/month for their unmetered 1Gbps oh yeah thats just for the uplink not inlcuding the server hosting costs lol

Can a different NIC make a tenfold increase in speed?
TriRan replied to JPsDad's topic in New Members
Hi, JPsDad Welcome to Testmy.net piggybacking off your neighbors wifi, i'm assuming you have permission. you'll probably never be able to accurately gauge the speed since you don't know his current package and what he or people in his household may be doing while your testing, they could be downloading movies or streaming netflix for all you know in regards to the NIC question, having the correct drivers can make all the world of difference. it sounds like the drivers installed for the card on your PuppyLinux installation are probably not optimal. vs the drivers used for your TP-link card seem to be working well. so there are probably some issues with the driver for the IPW2200 card. i've actually ran into an issue like this with windows 7 and an old WMP54G internal wifi card. the driver installed by windows 7 worked but it did not allow the computer to download over 200kb/s, i looked online and it was a common issue since the card is so old and linksys has discontinued support/drivers for it however realtek who made the chipset have been developing drivers for it for windows 7 and had a working version that i was able to use and get the full speed out of the card -
