  1. Tom's Hardware did something similar but with vegetable oil instead of mineral oil. I do think that the idea of an aquarium is cooler though http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/01/09/strip_out_the_fans/page2.html
  2. It didn't, because my address book was located in some kind of sub-address book. It was kind of weird but when I got the addresses back to the main address book, the addresses were exported with the "include subfolders" option.
  3. As of my last post, my problem has been fixed. Grambler, I looked at that location but it contained a .pst file that did not include the address book itself.
  4. Indeed there is such an option, but originally the export file, a .pst file, did not contain my address book. I finally found out that I could create a new address book that was directly linked to outlook in some weird way and transfer all my contacts from my original address book into that one, and then export the .pst file which now contained the addresses. Pretty weird, but at least now it works.
  5. I doubt that notepad will be able to convert it back into its original format with a big amount of formating. I'm just looking for a file format that can transfer from one computer to another.
  6. No, I took the most recent driver, that worked with my old card. I guess it might be a driver problem indeed, I'l give it a try.
  7. Does anyone know how to transfer an outlook address book from one computer to another? In my case, I am reinstalling windows and I saw that the address book is not included in the .pst that is the inbox backup. A google search recommended finding some file that doesn't seem to exist on my computer, although the address book is very real. Ideas? NB: That computer is running vista.
  8. No, mine was a standard 1800MHz speed. Indeed, some "factory overclocked"versions are clocked too high and need to be clocked down, but I just have the regular model. I have been playing C&C for a few hours and there was no crash, I guess this is periodic. I'l be running ATItool for the next few minutes to see how it goes.
  9. Do you have time to load CPU-Z before it crashes in unlinked mode? If so, you can try to check the actual memory timing to make sure it concurs. I have a 650i board and I know that there is an option in the bios to see the actual mem speed, but sometimes it doesn't give the same reading as cpu-z once windows is running. Maybe try overclocking or underclocking the ram a bit, leaving the timings to auto. Have you tried overclocking the cpu a bit? Anyways, it is surprising that there should be such a difference between linked and unlinked, but as with many computer problems, the actual problem doesn't necessarily need to be found in order to fix it.
  10. I got a Galaxy 8800GT about a month ago and somehow it seems to be unstable with stock speed because when I play C&C3 it usually crashes (the program closes with no error message) after about half an hour. I am quite certain that the video card is to blame since I have never been able to go past 15 minutes without an error in the ATItool stress test. I use an aftermarket cooler (vf900) but the ramsinks arent installed because I can't get them off my old card. Once, I forgot to plug in the cooler fan and I got a bsod but my card did not reach a temperature higher than 65C according to speedfan (I was not gaming), so I doubt that it was permanently damaged. The card usually idles around 50C and gets to 55C while gaming, and to 68C while stress testing. I tried playing portal and UT3 for more than an hour each, and no problem, but I think C&C3 pushes the card harder. Any ideas on the cause and potential solutions?
  11. Funny how of the 6 computers I admin, only two of them have pirated copies of XP (with one which actually came with a legit copy, I'm just too lazy to go through the sp2 installation and application removing process again) even though I consider myself a pirate. I am surprised to see that Photoshop has a much larger user base than, say, The Gimp, which is similar but free of charge.
  12. You all were able to start a fight without me? Bout time I joined in! I'd come back on Shug's initial comment but if you all want to get over it, I'll accept your decision. Now, I would like some kind of semi-moderated flame place where Tommie and I could fight, but I agree that it might spill over to other parts of the forum too. There are plenty of topics that I want to start that will inevitably end in insults if unmoderated. Beliefs will do that to you sometimes. I feel like I read that somewhere in the last week, maybe on this forum. Is it a repost or is one of us a psychic?
  13. I usually see my sister about once a week, I might see her this weekend, I will keep you posted.
  14. Seems nice coknuck, but that price is over the value of the computer
  15. Shouldn't the Extreme graphics be the limiting factor instead of the wire? Is RCA better than S-video? The thing is that the sound input is going to the sound system, not to the tv, could that be a problem with the component video adapter?
  16. I have an old computer with a 845GL chipset (http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/845gl/index.htm) with intel extreme graphics that I would like to use as a server that would be connected to my tv. Of course, the mobo doesn't have a s-video port, so I was looking at a VGA to s-video adapter on e-bay (http://cgi.ebay.ca/VGA-to-RCA-S-Video-Adapter-Cable-Converter-for-PC-TV_W0QQitemZ160201230829QQiHz006QQcategoryZ41999QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem), Do you think that it would enable me to use my tv as a monitor? there would be no other monitors. BTW I don't plan on viewing anything really HD or anything, just standard definition. The tv is not HD-compatible anyways. Thanks. Edit: The Intel page on extreme graphics has these two lines that I'm not sure how I should interpret: Flat panel monitors and TV-out support via AGP Digital Display (ADD) cards Multiple display types (LVDS, DVI, TV-out, CRT)
  17. The 5150 is especially bad with heat, there's actually been a voluntary recall after a class action lawsuit against Dell but I missed the deadline due to my parents receiving the mail I hadent thought of the power supply explanation, but I'l give it a look, thx.
  18. Oh, I have disassembled it scores of times, but the last time I did it I thermally linked the (overheating) cpu heatpipe to the graphics card heatpipe with thermal grease (the metal was already touching) and I was wondering if that could have caused the graphics card to overheat. Even then, if the card overheating is the problem, should it not work correctly when I first boot? Actually, it does, but only for about 5 seconds, and it gets worse over a minute. As for the temperature, I was wondering about the temperature that it can safely reach while operating, not the temperature on the outside. And there is no way the card's temperature is ever under 35 Celsius, but thx for the info anyways.
  19. How hot is a typical laptop video card supposed to run? I'l make sure that the video card is not overclocked too.
  20. My sister's computer has been acting strangely recently. When I cold boot, the boot screen shows up but some lines on the screen seem to be missing and the missing lines skip around. I could compare that to what happens when you insert a NES game and it only partially works. I can enter the bios but the same problem continues there, and I am unable to enter windows (the screen just becomes black) and safe mode has plenty of command lines appear (still with the pixelated lines) but still boots, but in windows it's still the same problem. The fact that the issue happens before I boot into windows hints that it's a hardware problem, but I'm just not to sure wha component would be the problem. Any insight on this? Btw, the computer is a laptop, a Dell Inspiron 5150 which had been working fine for 3 years except for some heat issues which seemed to have been partially resolved.
  21. From what I have discussed with you in the last year or so, here are some of the values and opinions that I believe I have seen you defend: Freedom of enterprise, promotion of English as the only official language is the US, pureness of bloodline, armed defense of borders, respect of the sacred aspect of America, support of the American troops whatever the circumstances, immorality of any kind of music pirating, God is on your side. I tried to be as objective as possible in the formulation of those values. Note that we have more disagreeing point that I couldn't formulate in a concise way, so I'll only defend these. My point is that I do not share any of these values and opinions at least not as you have formulated them in the past on this forum. If you doubt the source of my interpretation of such values or opinions, feel free to PM me.
  22. Thanks for the info Shug I checked out Acharya's website and indeed it seems to be pretty much sensationalist with a lack of data supporting anything. Still, there are two things that I think give a certain amount of credibilty to the author. First, she has studied in many of the fields that she writes about in her book, and second, things just seem to make sense. Of course, the second reason is void if the facts are just false, and you seem to have proved that some are false, but that does not refute all of the connections. Still, it's nice to get a second opinion like that.
  23. Okay, philip, I maybe was wrong on your intentions. Although I did imply that you were republican, that was not my point and I merely assumed it from the interest I perceived from you on self-determination, which is typically more of a republican than a democrat value; for all I care, you could vote Nader. I'm not (dis)crediting you for the e-mails either. I just saw that you were the first to more or less explicitly one of your values (self-determination, from what I understood) and I believed and still believe that such values should be the guidelines to one's vote. Now that might not be your opinion, so I then dissociate myself from you in the expression of mine; I would edit my post and remove your name if I could. tommie, if I ever find someone with values that are farther than mine, I will advise you. Meanwhile, you're the holder for this title. I do not aspire to change you, but what saddens me is that mudmanc4 has adopted your "he's from Canada so his opinion is irrelevant" attitude which I believe to be invalid. Then again, maybe this is no place for a debate, and as Reso has said,
  24. Eeeeh... Did a few installs and uninstalls of different versions of Itunes and now nothing will work at all due to missing files...
  25. philip, I believe that you have started the intervention I had comming but not quite completed it: with republican views, and considering yourself as a republican, you do not need to find a dishonest or discrediting attribute for a democrat such as Obama not to vote for him, but simply you can say that you would not vote for such a person because that person has views that do not concord with yours. For example, I love the way Ron Paul speaks and the arguments he makes, I have found his argumentation to be structured and logical as well as his answers to seem honest. I care not about his political or religious background, as long as he is not known to have links to some kind of fraud, I don't care how good or bad looking the guy looks (hint to the Clinton pictures out there) but what I do care about are his political views, and I do not agree with them, thus I would not vote for him. I was recently reading Arnold Schwarzenegger's wikipedia page and I found one quote particularly interesting Now, I don't support Arnold's views and I do not try to insinuate that all republicans are like him or anything, but I found that this statement was a very good explanation of one's political faith, and I think it to be a much better argument to support one candidate or another. If everyone thought like that, the amount of money collected during the campaign might just become a secondary factor to one's victory, just like whether he/she attended mass when he/she was young or what color skin he/she has. Now if you want to have a debate between republicans and democrats, whether it is better to have a more or less interventionist state, whether abortion is moral or not, whether religion should be more or less present in schools and public places, be my guest, but there is no need to toss the names of the presidential election candidates around; when comes the time to make the choice as to who to vote for, you can refer to their web pages, where I assume that their values, beliefs and political agendas will be found.
