you might want to be careful about "Switching" between the two.. If you neighbor says it is ok than great you are golden.. however law enforcement has been cracking down lately to bandwidth leachers and people who are connecting to access points that they shouldnt be on.. The only thing that I could think of would be the quality of the phone line in the house or even the service providors signal.. He also might be paying a hell of alot more than you are for the extra speed.

first off welcome to the forum!! I am not sure you would see a difference in the internet speed in a new system. It would be more likely that you would see the overall system speed improve there by making you think your internet is faster... 128mb of ram is not even close to what you need. Most people are starting to move to 512mb for a minimum and 1 gb for the advanced user... If you are looking to go with a new killer system go with an 64bit and PCI-E connections. Otherwise you are just throwing money at something to get something else that is going to be useless in a few years... A) 64bit games are coming and with programs starting to be written to use 64 bit there will be a performance increase. PCI-E with eventually phase out AGP for good.. now this will take a while and some will argue that it never will happen.. but it will sooner or later.. ISA isnt around anymore.. The other way of doing this is to get a retail system.. Again 64bit would be good just to have the extra power and reduce the overhead if you ever want to upgrade in the future.. What you have to be careful of with retail products is that most of the products ship with custom motherboards.. meaning that upgrades can be a pain in the ass.. If you spec something out let us know.. I am sure there is more than one person who would like to look at it..

Try unistalling the driver.. removing it.. http://www.majorgeeks.com/Driver_Collector_d3982.html then install a new driver and see what happens.. This sounds like a driver issue..

yeah it might be on the server end.. I am not sure how this site is setup now.. I have been away to long but it look like you are directed to the server closest to your location. The tracert's look pretty clean coming in.. i dont know what is going on.. -
Hahaha.. that is an awesome idea.. VoIP at college.. my guess is that you will also get QoS priority depending on what type of gear the college is running..

I have seen something like this before.. Can you get to your ctrl+alt+del menu with out it closing? Back a little while ago my room mate had some wacked virus thing going on.. He couldnt get to the display screen, ctrl+alt+del wouldnt work, and couldnt edit the network adaptors... I would say start fresh.. you might end up tracking the problem down... but my guess is that the problem has created more problems that you dont even know about.

my guess is that comcast capped you...wouldnt be suprised if this was some type of ploy to find people who are running really fast and re applying the modem config to bring them back down to the 4mb level. What service are you paying for? -
what software are you using for routing? U using smoothwall?

Need some help with this dang new fangled technology...
Swimmer replied to Shug7272's topic in Networking and Hardware
File and print sharing was made for this task.. just make sure that you turn it off once you are done.. FTP is great but the security risk is just to large.. once it is running.. it is running.. -
that is very interesting.. what router are you running it though? Have you tried downloading and talking on the phone at the same time?

There use to be a server that you could hit and enter the mac and serial of the modem and you would be set to go.. I will have to look and see if I can find/get to it anymore.. -
good deal.. enjoy!
