Yeah. I agree completly! With the possibility of PCI Express, the winchester updates, and ddr2 around the corner I am questioning if building my computer now for college or waiting. I think that I am going to wait. I know that I will not beable to afford the ddr2 chips but i can still put ddr into them. It seems like we are back in the late 90's again..... Everyother week something new and better is coming out. For a while there everything was kinda solid.... A p4 3.2, dual channel 1 gig, sata, ect. But now everything is being turned upside down.

Yeah no kiddin! I think that AMD will lead for a while until Intel decides that the consumer needs the 64bit chip. Right now it seems that only people like us really care about the proformance boost. Well...use and large companies. As for the graphic war. ATI seems to have that one won sightly with the 9800XT. Who knows what Nvidia will come up with.

For all of you who have been following the developments in the AMD 64 battle and the Intel Prescott I have good info for the AMD fans out there. The release dates for the next line of the Athlon 64 processor was release today. http://www.anandtech.com/cpu/showdoc.html?i=1985 As you can see Intel is going to need to step it up. It looks like AMD is going to release their 3800+ Athlon 64 chip in May of '04. Yes.. that is right 2 months. It is going to run at 2.2ghz and be built on the 90nm platform.

That is helpful! It means that the file sharing programs are hogging you bandwidth. Those ip address are from people that are connecting to his computer and the servers that are being pinged to keep his connection live. Ask him to turn off the file sharing program when he isnt around. That should solve your problems. What he is doing is creating like 5 "clone" computers pretty much. Everytime he logs into his p2p program he makes like 5 different connections. With thoses connections he has to ping every 5-30 sec to keep his connection live. When he is downloading he is opening more connections to get fast download speed. Which requires opening more connection to different servers. Which means that the bandwidth left to you and the rest of your buddies is rather small.

I am guessing that you are all paying for the cable line? If you are the person who pays for the line you can place bandwidth restrictions on their ip addresses. However, I have a 4 computer setup running on a 3 mb cable line and have no problems. I know that all of my computers are not download 650mb movies from Kazaa but the speed stays pretty high up. You might also download new drivers for you network card. Also check you setting you might be only running at 10baset instead of 100baset which would explain the slow down. Let us know and more info would be great!

You need to be careful with SBC DSL. I have a few friends that are on it and that are running sub 700kb on the 1.5 plan. They live less then 3000 feet from the co... I live in IL so that could be some of it but I have tryed every thing on their computers and have only got about 10-20kb faster. However, the connection becomes unstable and the ping jumps around. If I were you I would go with the COX Cable. Remember speed isnt everything! You have to have a reliable connection to have that speed!

That isnt to bad! I bet you can tweak it a little bit. I am on a 3000kbs line and run about 4200kbs. However, my wireless computers run slightly slower. I am on a hard ethernet net connection to a router using cat5e cables. Read some of the posts about the Rwin values. Also check your ping and try a tracert. start-> run-> cmd or command-> tracert.... then plug in your ISP's home page. It will let you know if any of their servers or routers are breathing heavy. Overall that speed isnt bad but I can almost bet you that you can get atleast over the 2mb level.

Hey great news!!! The 939 winchester is expected to be out quarter 2! For all of you who dont know what this means, it means that Dual channel will be available for the Athlon 64. This is going to offer the same proformance as the FX chip in the memory department but still have the overall speed lead in the processor war. Lorne you might want to wait for this to come out!
