  1. wow.. i think this might be the only site with this version still available.. looks like MS was pretty good at removing the Antispy stuff for defender..
  2. How to install DD-WRT on a Linksys router. This guide is a tool to help you, if you choose to, flash a supported Linksys router with a third party firmware, DD-WRT. testmy.net and the MODs are not responsible for any damage to the hardware, systems, or personal injury if you do attempt this! ONLY ATTEMPT IF YOU ARE CONFIDENT IN YOUR SKILLS! So you have a Linksys router and either are not happy about the performance or you want to put firmware that will turn it into, pretty much, a modern business class router. (The functions are the same the hardware is different) The developers of DD-WRT have just the solution for you. It is a third party firmware that will turn it into one of the most advanced consumer level routers available. However, there are some catches! If you do decide to flash your router you will effectively end any type of warranty on the hardware. There is also a possibility that the router can "brick", freeze not allowing you to boot the router. This can be a serious problem, but if you follow the steps in this guide you should be able to avoid "bricking". What is this DD-WRT firmware you speak of? Basically the Linksys router that you have in front of you is a small computer. In fact it even uses Linux as its os. (This is a heavily modified version of Linux) Due to some hardware hackers they were able to create firmware that can improve the performance and add some additional features that are not available from Linksys. This is great if you want to link two wi-fi network together, need to have QoS on a smaller scale, and the transmit power adjustment. Here is a list of some of the features that are included on this firmware: * 13 languages * 802.1x (EAP (Extensible Authentication Protocol) encapsulation over LANs) * Access Restrictions * Adhoc Mode * Afterburner * Client Isolation Mode * Client Mode (supports multiple connected clients) * Client Mode WPA * DHCP Forwarder (udhcp) * DHCP Server (udhcp or Dnsmasq) * DNS forwarder (Dnsmasq) * DMZ * Dynamic DNS (DynDNS, TZO, ZoneEdit) * Hotspot Portal (Chillispot) * IPv6 Support * JFFS2 * MMC/SD Card Support * NTP client in a client-server basis * Port Triggering * Port Forwarding (max. 30 entries) * QoS Bandwidth Management (Optimize for Gaming and Services / Netmask / MAC / Ethernet Port Priority) * QoS L7 Packet Classifier l7-filter * PPTP VPN Server & Client * Ntop Remote Statistic * Syslog to remote server * RFlow/MACupd * Routing: Static entries and Gateway, BGP, OSPF & RIP2 via (BIRD) * Samba FS Automount * Rx/Tx Antenna (Select or Auto) * Show Status of Wireless Clients and WDS with System Uptime/Processor Utilization * Site Survey * SNMP * SSH server & client (dropbear) * Startup, Firewall, and Shutdown scripts * Static DHCP Assignment * Style (Changeable GUI; v.23) * Supports New Devices (WRT54G V3, V3.1, V4 and WRT54GS V2.1, V3, V4), however not WRT54G V5 as this uses another OS and has less memory. * Telnet server & client * Transmit Power Adjustment (0-251mW, default is 28mW) * UPnP * VLAN * Wake On Lan client (WOL) * WDS Connection Watchdog * WDS Repeater Mode * Wireless MAC Addresses Cloning * Wireless MAC filter * WMM (Wi-Fi MultiMedia QoS) * WPA over WDS * WPA/TKIP with AES * WPA2 * Xbox Kaid (Kai Engine) As you can see this is quite a long list. What do I have to have to do this? You need one of these following routers. * Linksys WRT54G v1.0, v1.1, v2.0, v2.2, v3.0, v3.1, v4.0 o NOT WRT54G v5.0 * Linksys WRT54GL v1.0 (since the 2005-11-24 release of v23beta2) * Linksys WRT54GS v1.0, v1.1, v2.0, v2.1, v3.0, v4.0 o NOT WRT54GS v5.0 * Asus WL-500G deluxe (since the 2005-11-01 release of v23beta2) * Siemens SE505 * Motorola WR850G (since the 2005-11-07 release of v23beta2) * Buffalo WHR-G54S * Buffalo WZR-RS-G54 * Allnet all0277 * Buffalo WBR-G54 * Buffalo WLA-G54 As you can see there are other non-Linksys routers supported but for the most part this firmware is intended to be used on Linksys hardware. As you can see there are some versions of the routers that are not supported. Wonder why? Linksys didn
  3. I am really interested in looking into one.. but there isnt alot out there on the net, or i havent found much.
  4. Not a huge supprise.. everyone is talking linux and if people want to make the move into something that has a windows feel.. this sounds like it is the distro for first timers.
  5. is this the distro that take 10 hours to compile?
  6. try running the program in safe mode.. you might just be removing the instances of the spyware and not the actual program. The program itself could be in the memory and as soon as you clean it, it starts another instance.
  7. it is going to be plenty fast.. that is a nice package.. 2mb upload.. I would kill for that at home.. My guess is that when you get it you are going to be able to tweak 6000 to 6500 just because i doubt they set the caps right at the package speed.. I mean they have what a 10 and 15 mbps packages also available.. Congrats and welcome to the forum!
  8. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/windowsvista/evaluate/hardware/entpguid.mspx#EDAA those are the current requirements that Microsoft has published.. the official stuff will be out late may early june my guess would be.
  9. nothing more than this.. this was still beta one days though.. http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=10936.0
  10. yeah i wouldnt be tooooo worried at this point.. they seem to know what is going on.. and if you didnt have problems last night and now you are seeing a slight slow down.. big deal.. give it by the wednesday and all should be good..
  11. i would call and ask for a refund for the down time.. if they have been doing this for quite a while then they should have no problem refunding your money.
  12. Some members have been reporting of slow down on the connection.. If you are in the state of NY you might be affected.. This is planned to go tomorrow.. they may have started early or they are moving people off the equipment Also 3/1/06 This is planned for 4:00PM EST
  13. Sone one else is experience the same sort of thing... http://help.rr.com/HMSLogic/network_status.aspx They are currently working in NYC: Here is what they say..
  14. no.. you can talk.. teamSpeak..
  15. here is what i found.. http://help.rr.com/HMSLogic/network_status.aspx looks like they are working on the network in your area..
  16. post a tracert.. start-> run-> type cmd press enter -> type tracert testmy.net do it when it is fine and when it is having problems.. My guess is that RR is doing some maintainance in your area.. BTW welcome to the forum!
  17. Alright i would try and see if you can re-aim your antenna.. you should have a higher Transmit Success Rate and Recieve Success Rate
  18. What type of aps do you have? i am going to need to do some research.. that log looks a little wack
  19. you can get routers with dual wan ports.. http://www.netgear.com/products/details/FVS124G.php you could load balance the two lines.. i am sure if you wanted to go a bit more expensive you could aggregate them into one super pipe..
  20. that might be true.. but your ping to the ISP is fast! so the antenna isnt going to make a difference, so that would leave me to believe that it is the ISP's problems not yours or your equipements... If he is getting better speeds then I would worry.. try this.. tracert 192.168.1.1 post the results... that should give you any signs of packet loss.
  21. Trillian has fixed more of the file transfer issues that were in previous versions. As long as the receiver as the latest version of the client it should work fine now..
  22. Here it is.. the official list of versions and what they will include for the upcoming release of Microsoft Windows Vista. The press release states that they should be "widely" available by November of 2006. http://www.testmy.net/articles/article-415
  23. we kinda have it.. http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-1127 just located in a wired place..
  24. That is about $85 US.. It is the telex 2415 13dbi yagi directional antenna. It should be good for about 2 miles minimum.. where the current one you have is 7+ miles. I would see if you could borrow his antenna for a bit.. or have him come over and hook up to yours and see what type of speeds he gets.
  25. I would go with the linksys or dlink.. personally my WRT54g is a lot more stable than my DI-524, I think there is something wrong with it anyways ..
