That's yet another reason I use Firefox. It shows not only the lock icon, but the url a second time in the status bar. It also hilights the address bar in yellow.

I don't have problems with Zonealarm free, but some people do report speed problems with it. Try one speed test with ZA and one without it on.

DNS translates the address you type into an IP address on the internet. If the server is slow, it can take longer for that translation to happen. Other that that, it shouldn't affect your speeds too much. I personally use 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.3 for my DNS servers. I'm also on Comcast.

His ip address isn't showing. The address you ping FROM doesn't show up in a tracert.

Your first hop shouldn't be timing out. Try testing with out your router.

Go to https://addons.mozilla.org/ for a whole lot of plug-ins, themes, and extentions. Tools>>Advanced>>Browsing. Check/unkcheck "Use smooth Scrolling" and see what happens.
