Ok Van, a little insight, please......
Odysseus_____ replied to Odysseus_____'s topic in Make it Faster...
Just to put that in perspective for all.... 300 GB ain't alot with a connection like that. When I first set up my newsgroup account on my office connection, I downloaded about 15 gigs that day in about 3-4 hours.... had to get the unlimited Giga-News account... Now I just need more hard drive because that goes away really quickly now. -

Odysseus_____ replied to Odysseus_____'s topic in Make it Faster...
Yeah, I dunno what the deal is... Actually the people that manage the complex say that the offices are supposed to be limited to about 4 mbps up and down..... but apparently there's a little more headroom.... I mean 4 DS3 lines is alot of bandwidth... especially if they're multiplexed.... I'm just going to enjoy it as long as I work there... and I'll reguarly be adding hard drives as I use them up... lol -

Odysseus_____ replied to Odysseus_____'s topic in Make it Faster...
Ok... Done deal. I ran all of the files and they all seem to do about the same on this machine... i.e.- the performance is best when WindowScaling is on and I am running TcpWindowSize and GlobalTcpWindowSize at either 253920 or 507840.... when it's at 64380 I consistantly get speeds of 10 Mbps or lower.. with the 2 higher settings it's more like 14 Mbps.... Also, my Upstream test does better in this range so I think I'm going to leave it like this for now... It will run better once I clean this machine out as well. It's been about 2 years since it's been formatted (isn't that a shame? I format mine at the house about every 90 days or so).... Thanks for taking time to look at it though and if you have some more suggestions then let me know.... ...Ody... -
I used to wear contacts years ago... I think there are a few reasons they tell you not to re-use the solution are A) It's just "good practice" to use fresh solution each time, Your eyes can easily get infected should the wrong thing get in there... perhapes they figure there's more of a chance of contamination when re-using the stuff, or maybe C) The eye doctor is a stock holder in the contact lens solution maker and he wants dividends....(well maybe not)..... Just a few guesses.... I never was lucky enough to be able to keep mine in...I had to take mine out every night.

Ahhh... ok I see.. it's a server-side thing with them.... Yeah, the MSS is 1380 (I suppose our provider has it set like that.).... I have set the appropriate settings in cablenut to reflect that, but if you feel like making a tweak file for it, that would be cool. It is in fact a dedicated connection... hell, make 2 files... one for 50 Mbps and one for 100 Mbps... I'll try them both..... Thanks. ...ody... BTW - whatever tweaks you and cable are doing are working... my speeds just keep getting better.... I haven't tweaked on this machine today.... :::.. Ok... I got really bored in the office.... A penny weighs ~2.5 grams according to the U.S. Mint.... A nickel weighs 5 grams according to the same source.... 3,600,000 nickels = 18,000,000 pennies 18,000,000 pennies = 45,000,000 grams = 45,000 Kilograms = ~99,000 lbs. (49.5 tons) 3,600,000 nickels = 18,000,000 grams = 18,000 Kilograms = ~39,600 lbs (almost 20 tons) $180,000 takes alot of space if you think of it in those terms.... Geez... I need to go home, I'm entirely too bored.

I think this site, or maybe the atlanta speakeasy.... it's hard to say I guess.... I guess I shouldn't be picky...
-
Yeah.. I've noticed a few things... some speakeasy tests have my d/load really low and my u/load really high... then some are more evened out... I think of all of the speakeasy tests, the atlanta one is the closest to what I observe when using the connection.... When d/loading I typically am around 10-15 Mbps... sometimes better depending on the server... and on upload my ftp can support between 5-7 megabits mostly (more when multiple users are connected sometimes)... sometimes more or less but usually about there... I think the reason the atlanta one is somewhat accurate is because most of the time my first hop out of the building is a Global Crossing backbone in Atlanta, which could be the one Speakeasy uses... dunno for sure..... Or, sometimes it's one of Qwest's backbones... depending on the address I am going to.... ++++Edit: Nope, nevermind.. it goes through the qwest server to get to the atlanta speakeasy server... here's the traceroute....
