    ram

If you run XP, then upgrading for such a low-use computer is a waste. Vista will benefit from the extra ram, since it's such a hog.
  2. He runs 1280 * 1024, which is just over 1.3 megapixel. You run 1440 * 900, which is just under 1.3 megapixel. Can you even see the difference between 8x AA and 16x AA?
  3. You're running huge AA, which explains the difference, to me anyway.
  4. You could very well downgrade to a dual core and get the AMD 38x0 or Nvidia 8800/9600GT and get more performance in games. Only if you do quite a bit of video editing/encoding/other CPU intensive and multithreaded programs are you going to see a difference between the dual and quad core.
  5. False. The wattage number is how much watt it can support after conversion, so if a 1000W PSU is 80% efficient at 1kW, then it takes 1000*(0.^-1 or 1.25kW from the socket. Also note that the efficiency depends completely on the load, for a general PSU it's the most efficient around 50% of its maximum wattage.
  6. The problem with wattages is that they're not very reliable for brandless PSUs. A 400 watt quality PSU can actually run a lot of high-end stuff (ok, no tri-SLI 8800 Ultra) with some effort, but a brandless one may just as well crash then burn then explode. Also, you see all those 1kW+ PSUs when there is no system at stock that can only work with that much power.
  7. Have you even been reading any of the posts? Those cards were suggested before. If you really want to stick to your budget the 8600GT with 256MB GDDR3 is the best option.
  8. Bigger screens run a larger native resolutions, thus have more pixels total. So yes, in theory you run a larger risk at losing (sub)pixels.
  9. Actually, DX10 runs like shit, relatively speaking. They're still working on native DX10 games, every game so far was just a port and the difference in DX version was just not there. DX10 capable cards run DX9 just fine. Even though it's an older card, the 1950 pro is surprisingly powerful, Newegg link. I would recommend you go and find a used one, they should be far less pricey. For a little better investment, the 3850 would be good. Newegg clicky For both cards the 512MB version would be faster with high AA and texture quality, but the difference is smaller than you would expect. Both the 7300GT and 8400GS are the lowest of the low-end cards. You may be able to run at 800*600 lowest quality with both, but that's it.
  10. Testing to see post count increases. 2k here I come!
  11. How can you run out of CPU power when you have a dual quad core? It boggles the mind.

  14. I feel insulted, calling me a brit. I am a Dutchman.
  15. You mean like this? "You should really treat this gaping gut wound soon, but let's have some tea first, shall we?" Only in Britain.
  16. Um, water is unique in the sense that it has a lower density as a solid, than as a liquid. The pipe could've burst when it froze up, but unthawing it isn't going to do that.
  17. A kid of parents trying to extort money by sueing others.
  18. Call me an evil bastard cynic, but for some reason I am expecting a lawsuit against the parents of that kid, for producing a kid so smart and down-to-earth that it mentally damaged another kid.
  19. Easy. It's a badly calibrated sensor. As buntz said, CoreTemp will show a higher and more correct temperature reading.
  20. I could ask CA3LE to lock your post count at 9999 once you get that high.

    Voltage?

It's just Everest reporting the wrong sensor and/or using the wrong scale.
  22. Dang. He's still faster than me, though not by much anymore.
  23. It only takes one abuser to take down an underpowered hub. And you make it sound like you're an awfully long distance away from the most common place for a central hub, which tends to kill your speed.
  24. You kind of got the wrong CPU to overclock, this one is about as fast as most AMD dual cores will go, including overclocking. The 5000+ Black Edition would have been cheaper and could have scaled just as far as this one, and you even get the ease of an unlocked multi. Also, yours is 90nm, and the one I mentioned is 65nm and thus requires less wattage. If anything, I'd lower the voltage to see how low it can go, to lower the wattage output yet again.
  25. Do stick to English only... as that is the rule here. So preferably translate what you couldn't say in English, or I just have to assume it's severely derogatory and requires removal.
