You mean not usable for DDoS. Harvesting your personal information along with any banking data is still viable.

Yes to idling depending on the network. No use making a new network, when an existing one can handle #testmy.net just fine.
  4. There's a BIOS setting that can affect this. It forces the USB controller to be at USB1.0 speed (SnailSpeed), 1.1 (FullSpeed), 2.0 (HiSpeed). Speed names are by memory, so they can be off.
  5. Looks like it can handle the transfer rates, but if you're unlucky you might have to flash the BIOS to get support for AM3 CPUs.
  6. Hypertransport speed was never a bottleneck anyway. You should check if your motherboard has AM3 compatibility though, since I don't think they have x2 4600+ natively on AM3.
  7. You should be glad it is spent on scientific stuff, and not on war. NASA has a tiny budget, and yet they're one of the few who try to go beyond earth. Would you rather want that 79 million spent in a few minutes for a war which can't be won?
  8. This is knowledge taken from a Slashdot post, so take of it what you want, but these netbooks are pretty much standard. There's no reason to be sticking an 'unhackable' label on something that is trivially hackable, because it's still Windows. The 'BIOS level' tracking is just software (presumably windows only) and the RFID can be disabled, and the schools don't even get a scanner for those. I'd say this is just a politician trying to make a name for himself by marketing a mostly succesful IT project.

And the answer is: HERE! EDIT: looked to where HERE was!
  11. At identical base speed and timings, DDR3 grants double the bandwidth than DDR2. Of course, DDR3 has a few other extra features, but that's the general idea. However, the performance difference is less than double, actually closer to a few percentage points at most. DDR12... hmm... ... I'll take two.

56k isn't a lot of data moving at the same time. Easy to store and mine, since most traffic will not be encrypted. I'm not claiming they all do that, but the ability to do so is certainly there and it's a trivial one.

Let's say you're an employee in a store, and put the radio on. The RIAA (through sub organisations) now earn money from the radio station and your boss. At least, that's how it is here. And don't think they aren't interested in charging individual people listening to the same radio as well. It's just that the technology is not advanced enough yet to demand such a thing. And in case someone wants to ask who they are, it's the people in charge (the very top) and various shareholders. They seem to be so far away from reality, and see only money.

Point 1: Look up the definition of theft. Downloading copyrighted works is a violation of copyright, not a crime. Point 2: The RIAA has as much power as you and me, if it wasn't for their money. They are NOT the authorities. They would make you pay for just listening to the radio if they could, never mind the fact they're already being paid twice or more for every song played.
  15. The trick is that the connection speed (the kbps/mbps number) uses base 10 for the prefixes, while the download speed (to harddisk for example) uses base 2. Thus to go from kbps to KB/s (should actually be KiB/s) you divide by 8.192.
  16. If overclocking is pointless, why do AMD and Intel offer CPUs in various speed grades? It took some effort, but this x2 3800+ has ran at 2700 Mhz for about 4 years I think. Meaning, it was on par with a stock FX60 selling for almost 1000 dollar. The gain is undeniable nowadays, with practically every CPU made by AMD and Intel achieving 3+ Ghz stable, no matter what the stock speed is. A friend of mine just followed instructions on an AMD CPU (htt to 240, htt multi to 4, mem divider to 166) and has had no problems. I don't recall his CPU number, but it was at least a 400 Mhz boost. If you're already buying a third party cooler for silence or whatever, overclocking will at least pay you back the money spent on that cooler. This is why I don't understand your post, how can one program offer more performance than having for example a top-end model versus a low-end model CPU?
  17. This is why people should read first before attempting any overclocking at all. Find a battery (the CMOS battery, the location of it on the motherboard is probably listed in the manual) and remove it for 15 minutes, then put it back in. Then try booting the PC again. If you're unlucky you'll have to set a jumper too, but again, this is information you should be able to find in your motherboards manual.
  18. simply put: 9800GT = 8800GT > 9600GT >> 8600GT Because a 9800GT is a renamed 8800GT, and a 9600GT is a nerfed 8800GT, and a 8600GT is pretty much low-end. You'll probably see a decent framerate increase by increasing your CPU speed to 2.5 Ghz or more. Be aware of what overclocking does to your CPU.

I believe that they are forced to do that by the recording companies, because 'it would make copying music from radio too easy otherwise'.

I can't remember any countries in which drugs of any kind are explicitly legal. Holland has condoned small amounts for a while now, and Mexico has started to the same recently. Also, due to control freaks the movies may not be available in his country, or sold at such a rediculous price that you might as well throw money away.

If you can set utorrent to not upload anything, it is legal in at least one country (Holland). China probably won't care either way, but in most Western countries you'd be breaking the law. Of course, only in America can you then be convicted for 150.000 dollar per file.
  23. You can see the problem right there. 82f is about 28c, and thus you're claiming an aircooler achieves below-ambient temperatures. That's just physically impossible. Use a program like CoreTemp for a better idea on how hot your CPU runs.
  24. Unless you live in a fridge, that's a faulty sensor. And the point is not to wait for DX11in specific, but just the new cards from NVidia and ATI, i.e. the GT300 series and the 5xxx series. Note that NVidia isn't going to release theirs until January/February next year.
  25. I doubt there are any notable reviews out by websites, this was all I could find that had more than just specs.
