  1. I'm all for that. I think that needs too happen a lot more. The local city governments need to come in and take over a lot more and show the big companies that they can't push the consumer around cough. cough. FPL....
  2. I say 10 - 20 mbps will be the average by the end of 2008, because I think that the ISP's are finally starting to get it, and they are realizing that consumers what faster speeds, and so do website developers. And with bandwidth getting so cheap they can do it with out it bankrupting them. I can get 1TB of bandwidth for $100 imagine what they can get it for. With Comcast doing docsis 3.0, verizon with fios and AT&T with VDSL, I don't really see a reason why most people can't have a really decent speed connection by the end of the year. All it will take is the ISP's wanting to do it. Verizon and Comcast seem to want to do it. I'm sure about AT&T they seem too still be stuck on there "our 1.5 mbps is really fast, you don't need anything faster"
  3. Yea. you just have them enable it on there PC. and then you put in the IP address on yours and you are good go.
  4. using the remote desktop that is built into windows vista would be best. that would give you all the access you need.
  5. Get a DVI to HDMI cable. Its either the DVI port on the TV went bad. or the Cable did.
  6. So right now according to a few reports. The average US broadband speed is about 4.8mbps. With all the things comcast is doing with DOCSIS 3.0, verizon with FIOS, and AT&T with Uverse. What do you think the average US broadband speed will be by the end of 2008?
  7. Intel controlling the entire market would not be good at all for anyone. Having AMD doing these little jumps up in performance is very good. Because intel goes ok you got this well we will come out with this thats 30% faster then you. Intel is kicking there ass and singing about it. Apple + Intel is the perfect thing for the industry, because Apple will keep intel in line. And Jobs loves intel, so they get special things (that tiny ass processor in the Macbook Air)
  8. I read some where that it was looking like 50mbps to start. They can do over 100mbps with no problem. The end of 08 is going to be interesting too see what they do with it. I personally wish AT&T would just open up there vdsl uverse, and offer a internet only plan. It can also do a 100mbps with no problem. Everyone that I have talked too that has uverse synks up at over 70mbps right now.
  9. I think you got a little mixed up there. LOL. But I know what ya ment. The next thing they are going to do is to actually remove the video card. By the end of the year intel is actually going to have CPU's with a GPU built into the processor. First they are doing the GMA x4500 which will be 3 times faster then a x3100 then they are going to release the GPU on a CPU which is suppose offer performance thats just as fast as a high performance Graphics card from nvida or ATI, and it will cost a lot less. When they replace the Core microarchitecture with the Nehalem microarchitecture later this year, your going to start to see all this. And this has actually scared NVIDIA, there have been a lot of rumors that they are going to buy AMD so they could still compete. I personally can't wait for whats next. Because creative companies like Apple are going to have a field day with the way there computers look.
  10. I had heard about the new chipset for intel. but no one said if it did the smart thing like with the AMD one where it only uses the 9800 when it a graphic intensive app. And by price drop I ment for like when the cards just came out. the top of the line 8800 was more when it first came out then this card is. And I would think right now, the people that would be most interested in a 9800 would be ones with a high resolution monitor, because it performs well at like 1920x1200 or higher.
  11. I probably get too of these a day now for email accounts that don't have a paypal account. Its just another one of these stupid scams.
  12. They are only $600 bucks. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010380048+1305520548+106792522+1067937879&Configurator=&Subcategory=48&description=&Ntk=&srchInDesc= finally they are starting to drop the price of the high end card. Much better then 800 bucks like the 8800 utlra is. It looks like a real nice card, and the benchmarks show. But I have read there have been a lot of heat issues with it on some motherboards. EDIT: This price drop in the high end GPU, and only releasing a motherboard for AMD has to show that they are getting scared of what intel is doing.
  13. Thats pretty bad. Ive seen some really shotty work as well. Even from my own guys, in homes that are 10 million + where you just can't have stupid little things. Some people just don't care. Ive had guys that use cat5 as speaker wire. Don't know how that happened. Ive even had guys put a projector in upside down. A blind guy probably wouldn't even do that.
  14. Thanks Well after the 500th time doing it you kinda get the hang of it. lol Are the install techs really bad or something?
  15. So I got a new LCD TV for my bedroom in january. And I wanted to mount it on the wall like our old 32in was. But the new 42in I got had a problem with the mounting bracket I had. The current bracket that I was using was too small for this TV. the mounting holes are to the outer edge instead of the center like on the 32in TV. So it was like 3 inches off on each edge. I was going to fix it when I first got it, but Just kept having other things to do. I finally got around to mounting it tonight, and it came out really well. I went to HD and got some 1/4 in steal strips, poped some holes in that with my new Drill Press and mounted them too the TV then mounted the bracket too the strips of steal, and It worked out well. its a little bit further off the wall then I would like, but I can live with it. I wanted to flush mount it in the wall, but there is only a 1/2 in gap in the wall, so that would just not work. Which lead me to my next problem. Since its a concrete wall there is only a half in gap in between the drywall and exterior wall, With a ton of blow in insulation which just sucks. But back too the problem, this TV used a standard 3 prong power connector, and anyone that knows what they look like know they are a little bit bigger then a half inch. So it didn't really fit in the wall . So I had to kinda of make my own power cable so I could get it through the wall and power the TV. Other then that its all good. And looks good, Much cleaner this way. Better then having it sit on a box.
  16. Damn I wish I could have gone too that high school... The vostro is a good notebook. The inspiron is really bad, even those they are from the same basic design the inspiron is far lower quality.
  17. Thats not true. Macs are not just used for graphic design any more. Mac's are preferred at a good amount of schools now, and that is how they are now the #1 laptop supplier to universities http://www.macrumors.com/2008/03/03/apple-is-number-one-laptop-supplier-in-higher-education/ There are at least 2 schools now that are giving macbooks to new students now And I would stay away from Dell. There consumer stuff really sucks lately. But if you get a business notebook then you are ok.
  18. Well I would say you are a.... White american lady of irish decent, who loves chocolate, has some kids and some grand kids. she may also be a senior citizen... jk
  19. It seems it only doesn't work to TMN email address
  20. If you where born in the US you can run. And you have to be 35 or older. Are you? IDK if I would vote for you tho, given all the stuff you let shug get away with
  21. yea same here. I haven't gotten any either.
  22. Thats another way of getting a mac. If you look at there refurbished store too you can get them for much less. Right now they have the top end white macbook for $949 http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=MTE3NjY&nclm=CertifiedMac And there refurbished computers are no different then a new one. 90% of the time they are unopened returns or previous gen. computers that where never used.
  23. if 700 is pushing it. You can look at this one too http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8654002&type=product&id=1195600207048 the only thing that sucks about that one is its a AMD processor.
  24. Well I can't argue with that. My first choice would be a macbook. But if you can't because of the price. go with this gateway: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8651069&productCategoryId=abcat0502003&type=product&tab=2&id=1195599779501#productdetail Its a really good notebook for the price, and should help you out with those things you call essays
  25. Do not get a notebook till you know what your major is going to be and what school you are going to be going to. If you do know, give them a call and ask what they suggest you get. Most are going to suggest you get a mac. And you will have to raise your price a bit. Do you know what school you are going to?
