Updating drivers for the NIC may help. From device manager, right-click network card (under network adapters) and choose update drivers. Let windows cruise the net when it asks you. Otherwise, go to the website of the NIC vendor and see if they have drivers for update.

In your cablenut adjuster window, try changing DefaultReceiveWindow to 128480, save to reg, reboot. What kind of network you got there?

Cool. If that resolved it, I come to think now that it may possibly have been the duplex setting with the NIC. Glad things worked out.

Have you tried tweaking with Cablenut at all? Check out the STICKY, step 15. You can also building your own tweak file, step 16.

Oh yes, and you said it is fine, right? What kind of speeds are you getting on it? Yeah, changing hardware is not going to matter if the problem is software, which I'm thinking it must be. <hr> Have you tried setting the duplex of your network card to 100Mbps/Full-duplex? Your router may not support it (most do), but some ppl see speed increase when the duplex is forced instead of auto-detect, because it relies less on resources.

Not necessarily harm, other than using resources....but it's giving you results that are inaccurate and misleading. I used to have my browser all done up with extensions/toolbars, but I found that things ran better just barebones. You just gotta be sure to do regular maintenance on your browser (cache/cookes) and scan for spyware thoroughly.

It is often useful to use a number of different scan engines when an issue like this remains unresolved. If you search google for online scans (like this you'll find zillions. Personally, I like www.ewido.net/en/onlinescan because it searches for and removes Trojans, Worms, Dialers, Hijackers, Spyware and Keyloggers. It sounds likely to me that you've got a worm on your system (worms send mass emails from your system, often through their own servers).

When was the last time you defragmented your harddrive? I would try the online scan at www.ewido.net Also, try the line packet loss test at http://www.dslreports.com/tools

I would advise against using a tweak file that is designed for speeds so much higher than yours....the values may be too high and cause you to lose packets. Unfortunately, with DSL, you may not be able to see your cap.
