Hmmm...are you using IE?

Yeah that, and those stupid cached tests. I admit, it was kind of amusing the first time I saw one, and maybe even the second time, but the third and fourth times................................

What is a good cache limit for firefox in KB?
FallowEarth replied to destructionfever's topic in General Discussion

hey billybob12345 what you can maybe try to do is an online scan to see if there is something AVG is missing try this one: http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx EDIT: 200th post

You can hook it up, but just make sure your cables are good so you're not risking losing signal. Sometimes people will hook up another router in a network that is really spread out, as in one that has lots of cable running, because a router will boost the strength that it receives. The only trouble is that you are complicating your network and it makes it harder to troubleshoot it something goes wrong. But in short: yes you can hook it up that way.

It is because we get so many of these, it gets annoying after a while.

ok, thanks. also, by pci e (pci express?) is that better than agp, or why do you suggest that?

Problems with my connect, please help.
FallowEarth replied to bonfire's topic in Networking and Hardware
hey bonfire, could be a couple things there: -first be sure to powercycle: shut down computer, router if you're on one, and modem, wait for about a minute, check the connections, bring modem up, wait a minute, bring up router if you're on one, wait one minute, then bring up your computer -be sure to scan for viruses and spyware (did you format due to infection issues?) -try disabling XP firewall and any other firewalls or antiviruses that could possibly be interfering -try some pings and tracerts from the command prompt -
helloimtim, do you mind if i ask what motherboard you have?

I live in Canada and I know that 3 times since the current Liberal government has been in power it has tried to push the decriminalization of marijuana; in fact it was decriminalized for a period of a few months.

Ever seen the movie 12 Angry Men? The 1957 original version, I mean. Greatest jury room movie ever made.

Having been a dope-smoker at a previous, more rebellious, stage in my life, I have to agree with you about the apathy of pot use.

I absolutely agree with you just- It's like if they can't control it, then they can't tax it, and that just doesn't fit into the government budget. Nevermind they nasty side effects of denying people with illnesses who depend on the substance. meh...

I was reading in PC World June 13 2005 ed. about Intel's new P4 EE 840 dual core CPU's. It looks to be ok, but doesn't seem to perform any better than AMD's 64-bit processors. Also, it only seems beneficial to work with applications that have been written especially for multi-threading technology, where older single-threaded programs run not as well. Maybe there are some kinks to work out yet. I was wondering what y'all think about the new stuff, if its worth it at this point in the game, and if the market is gonna move that way. The price tag will come down in time I'm sure, but are single-threaded CPU's going to become obsolete in the near future?

Great connection... horrid ping... why?
FallowEarth replied to skribble's topic in Make it Faster...
Hey skribble, Unfortunately, you'll probably find that tweaking out your upload speed to the max will be a bit harder than with your down speed, as most upload speeds are not guaranteed by the ISP. Some here might be able to help if you provide a bit more info: operating system, cablenut settings, type of modem, on a router?, stuff like that. Also, what are your advertised down/up speeds? Further, try a trace route: -from the command prompt, type: tracert testmy.net ...and some pings: -from the command prompt, type: ping -n 50 testmy.net Post your results here (try not to include your own IP address, or your name from the command line)and we'll see what we can do for you. Ok, good luck. -
This is all I can find: https://www.speedguide.net/tcpoptimizer.php

I would use cablenut, and apply VanBuren's tweaks found here: https://testmy.net/topic-1013 Apply cablenut settings, be sure to be free of viruses and spyware, connect directly to the cable modem, turn off FW, AV, IM's, optimizers, and updates, etc that will be connecting to the net, then run download speed test @ testmy.net, post results.

I might think that the technology that went into developing parts for laptops is still being paid for, since they are not as common as desktops, and the technology is adapted from desktops too.

I always thought it was kinda funny that you have to pass an exam to drive, you have to pass an exam to practice law or medicine, hell you gotta pass an exam just to say you got yer edjumakayshun....but any old person has the right to rearing a child, exam-free.

Have you checked for spyware, or tried downloading with your firewall/antivirus turned off? Are there updates downloading, or other stuff that might hog the connection?
