  1. Toshiba laptop, 386....somewhere. Oh yeah, and a Commodore Amiga.
  2. In the last couple of days, spam has been sent out from RR domains to RR customers. These messages will be sent from such addresses as [email protected] or [email protected] among others, where division = your geographic location. The content of these messages may tell you that this is your last warning, or that you account will be temporarily suspended, etc. These emails are bogus, and any attachments with them should absolutely NOT be opened, and they should be deleted ASAP. RR is aware of the issue and is taking measures to fix it. If you want further info or help, call the Road Runner national help desk for telephone support.
  3. Hey Stitch, and welcome to the forum. What you can try to do is a few speedtests here at testmy while you are connected through your router, find an average, then bypass the router (ie. connect directly PC to dsl modem) and do some more speedtests. Notice much difference? Let us know.
  4. That is because of the association that you make -- and you are not alone by any means -- with the stranger, and with what they are capable of.
  5. No, no, not steamed. Just playing devil's advocate, really. Didn't want this to become just another MJ bashing thread. I have a son on the way, I wouldn't let anyone, king of pop or no, bring any harm to him, that I understand. I have a lot of respect for the artist, I believe in him, that's all.
  6. Yes, its fishy, and different, but although sleeping in the same bed as somebody else may be associated with sexual activity to many people, it doesn't mean that that's what it means to MJ. We cannot assume it is; what ever happened to innocent until PROVEN guilty? Did you ever sleep in the same bed as your parents when you were a child? Did you feel insecure? Did bad things happen? Chances are no; otherwise, this is probably the reason for your opinion. The question becomes not to do with sexual immorality, but social acceptance of platonic gestures. If you were to ask Freud his opinion, I imagine he would say that America is too hung up its dark childhood secrets to give MJ a fair trial.
  7. I don't claim to know anything about the truth of what happens in his home. I only know what's reported, and of what's reported I trust about 5% to be true. I know one thing that is certain, there are a lot of people hell-bent on ruining him. I pity him is mostly all.
  8. I am looking more or less for a budget machine, but overall I was hoping to have spent no more than $500 American when I'm through.
  9. I'm sure some of this is repeated, but try some of these steps wingzero2309: 1.
  10. MJ is an amazing artist, and has done a lot for the music and music video industries. In his personal life he is simply misunderstood, as are many people of above average talent or intellect. "Great spirits have always encountered opposition from mediocre minds." ~Albert Einstein
  11. I found this: http://magicpro.free.fr/6th/FallowEarth.jpg
  12. So AMD seems to be a popular choice.... would the 64 or XP be a good selection, or would I be better off with Sempron or Duron to start? Which motherboards are best with AMD CPUs? Is there other stuff that I should consider, like chipset and socket type? What about cooling? I am a little hesitant to try an OC on my first attempt, but still most definitely interested. I found a couple of guides that seem to be pretty thorough for AMD's : http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=gethowto&howtoID=58 http://www.tweaktown.com/document.php?dType=review&dId=376 Although I'll try a build without boosting the CPU output first, especially since that seems to be the general consensus here, but I'll probably give it a go some time. It's just too tempting not to.
  13. I haven't totally decided yet, just reading up and checking stuff out....but it does seem that Intel has a lot more flexibility, more options....so I'm kinda leaning that way
  14. This looks like it's right up my alley, thanks. What do you suggest? I've always heard that AMD was better, although I've only ever had Intel.
  15. No I do not. I was wondering what part is best to start with: motherboard, CPU, PSU, HD, vidcard (lol)? I get confused when I try to figure out what is compatable with what, it gets all mazy on me.
  16. lol awesome, please do.
  17. Happy Memorial Day, America! Love always, Canada
  18. thus: CRE8OR I've been looking for some time now and there seems to be nearly endless info on the net about this type of thing....I was considering going to school for something along the lines, but the only courses I found were like "Introduction to Office XP" or "Email and you"...I was like, oh man what a waste of money that would be, give me the friggin software and i'll rewrite it for you or something lol....anyway my point is that I think the net is probably the best resource for computer related info. Is there any particular sites that you frequent, CRE8OR?
  19. Very cool...yeah I kinda want to try to start building PC's for people, work from home possibly at some point. I have found some pretty good sites so far, but I what my concern mainly is is how you can be sure that different hardware devices are compatable, ram, motherboards, cpu's, etc. what is the best way to tell?
  20. That's tough to swallow with 6.6Mbps down....but you should be happy with that....just make sure you're not running any software that might interfere with the results, and that you're not using your back button in the tests.
  21. Hey all, I really want to get into building computers and into the hardware end of things, where I have only a little experience as it is. What I was wondering is if anybody knows some good online resources or guides or whatever that take a pretty good look into this. Stuff like hardware compatability, cooling, overclocking, hardware technologies....i dunno, that sort of things. Any ideas would be appreciated.
  22. Those are really good premium speeds....you could probably hike that download speed up a bit if you tweaked out.
  23. gotcha. Are your pings and traceroutes any different with a direct connection? Try comparing them from after a powercycle to when the connection slows down. If they are the same in both instances, then it is likely software related, if they are noticably different then it is likely related to hardware, traffic or servers. Also, what are your advertised down/up speeds?
