    @CA3LE
--Thanks for the great speed test site. I was genuinely surprised at the results I got here compared to speakeasy/ookla. My ISP does host an ookla site and does recommend using the java based speed tests. I was having trouble after upgrading my internet package. My old one was 10Mb/768k and I upgraded to 30Mb/3Mb. I had asked the sales/accounts lady if I needed a new cable modem and she said no and I believed her. Well after doing multiple tests on various sites i stumbled upon testmy.net and actually got an accurate result for what my connection really felt like compared to what my ISP said it should be. I contacted tech support and they said that I did need a new cable modem that the upgraded plan required a DOCSIS 3 cable modem and I had a DOCSIS 2 modem and that could/would account for variances in speed vs internet package. I went in and swapped out cable modems free of charge and tests were about the same on ookla/speakeasy but improved by a decent amount on testmy.net. Most importantly it felt quicker and more responsive as my family and I were using it for various things.

Thanks again and keep up the good work!

Oh and for all you older techies in the crowd that might remember how we used to do speed tests before there were websites for it *grin*

It's working for me.  Never had an issue like that.  Are your other browsers working with flash after the install?

... as I'm sure you already know, I've always hated flash.  But even if it died today... we'll be dealing with it for years to come.  Flash developers have to know by now that they're riding on fumes and should be transitioning.  If they don't, eventually, they'll be severely limiting their audience.

    Hi from SW Ohio.

Just FYI. I have Time Warner's 50 Mbps down and 5 Mbps up plan, and I consistently measure slightly above both those rates on my home Ethernet and Wireless through their 100 Mbps cable modem
And that's as measured here on TestMy.

Thankfully, the major video streaming sites make apps for iOS devices and Flash isn't used. The apps are pretty good. They really only have to do a couple of things. Browse for videos, organize your list, and stream. They may lack a feature or two, but overall they are good. If there's an equivalent Android app, I wouldn't think the experience would be much different - don't know, I don't own one. I don't know if they're Flash free either. I would think they'd be Flash free to help the users save battery life.

I get more Flash updates for security patches than any other software on my iMac. Not a good sign. The only bad thing about the Adobe Flash update site tips that the design is somewhat simple and has been copied to the point where identifying a counterfeit is very hard. I go into a state of terror every time I see one of the "a Flash update is available" messages come up.

So, like Pgoodwin1 said, check Brazil speed test stats and look at the ISP Rank tab.

So let's look at Virtua (ranked #4 in Brazil) -- if you click on the member rank tab you'll see the fastest users.

Now, Oi Velox  (ranked #8 in Brazil)

(Less popular so there's less information on them)

Looking into Jabulba you'll see he's in Rio De Janerio -- great connection.

I guess it depends on your budget and what the price of their packages are.  I'd go with Virtua... Oi Velox has proven to be extremely fast in the right area but Virtua seems more consistent.  Yeah, we don't know what packages people have but if you look closely at the results you can get an idea.

Why not help out others who have the same question, try both ISPs and write about it here.  I guarentee that if you use TestMy.net as your benchmark it will be immediately apparent which is faster.  TMN keeps test variables to a minimum which provides a level standard playing field.  If you keep the rest of your equipment the same then the only real variable between the results is your provider.  You can directly compare them and trash the slower one.   Make sure to use the multithread and mirror options when doing comparisons like this to get a nice broad spectrum of circumstances.

Take advantage of any money back guarantees!! (realize that often install fees are NOT refunded, check with your provider and try self install options if available to save time and money)  Make sure when you call to cancel you tell the loser the real reason why you've decided to go with the other guys.  It may help them improve their quality.

    I hope this helps.

Yes they do, they are bound by a small handful of 'companies' or services that provide streaming media. These companies have been and continue to draw in substantial benefits from these services. Something I don't see just going away soon , simply because developers are much more interested in revenue themselves, utilizing what is already available to stand upon when building their idea.

This is a level of development that is on another playing field than streaming media. Which is far less formidable when deciding to delve into one of the largest markets in social media revenue. Why be concerned about these little details, when all that needs done is to find an opinionated / knowledgable demographic, in any given niche to draw in viewers slash clickers, then utilize one of the several already widely used plugins for video. Just add a small script and you have instant website.

This to me is a major failure of ingenuity let alone individually prospecting ones own creativity. I mean look around , you can go from one site to the next, which is more or less the same thing , different layout different coloring and a few features that vary slightly. Not much new. We are bound and stuck in the mud by our own complacency.

What kind of up and down speed are you registering on this site? You might want to test 2 to 3 times consecutively, using the Dallas server. Then repeat this at 4 to 6 hour intervals. After a couple of days you can see what your average is now. You can look at this site's database - the Database pull down menu. Or go here for Brazil. https://testmy.net/country/br.

Also go here: https://testmy.net/country/br and pick the ISP rank tab.

You can view the Oi and Virtua data. Virtua data looks faster, but like you say, you don't know if that's because most of the Oi data tests were run by people with an inexpensive slower service.

You might call Oi and ask them to run some tests on the TestMy.net site and see what they get for results and compare that to your results now on Virtua. Not sure if they'd do that, but it might be worth a try.
You might want to go to their office and sit with someone and try the TestMy site. Maybe take your laptop? Not sure if they'd do anything like that, but it might be worth asking.

Mine seems OK with it. I just installed a Flash update a few days ago but haven't spent much time on the computer since. Mostly on the iPad. I agree about developers and Flash. It's terrible for mobile devices. Even MS and Adobe have admitted as much. Why in this day web page designers still use Flash is beyond me. It's like they don't know that 20% of the people surfing the web are using devices that don't run it. Whenever I run into a page that won't run because it needs Flash, I copy/paste my standard message back to their feedback link. Here it is. Feel free to use it.

Your lack of support for iOS devices is unconscionable at this point. Requiring Adobe Flash is holding you back. The number of iOS devices that are your potential customers number close to 1/2 billion.....that's 1/2 BILLION !!!!!! The world is changing and you're not changing with it. Most of the top Internet sites realize this and have updated their services to not require Adobe Flash. Adobe itself recognizes that Flash isn't suitable for mobile devices, and are no longer updating it for Android. Microsoft Windows 8 will have only limited support for it.

Yes there's costs associated with updating your site but if even if only 0.1% of the 1/2 billion users that are sign up with you, that's 500,000 new customers. Your advertisers will pay for the upgrade to your site.

We use our iPads and iPhones almost exclusively now. We only get on our desktop and laptop computers to do the heavy duty stuff. Looking at your web based services is not the heavy duty stuff. We want to be able to have fully functional sites on our browsers too; not a cheesed down app that doesn't give the user everything the full site does.

When mobile device users see a website, and the first thing they see is a message telling them they need Adobe Flash and they can't use it on their device, they immediately close that browser page, and go to a page that doesn't require it. Mobile users would never bookmark a mobile unfriendly site. Mobile devices are fast replacing newspapers and magazines and the number of users looking at websites on mobile devices is rapidly dwarfing the desktop computer web-browsing population. And before long, few if any mobile devices will run Flash because it is a processor and battery eating piece of software with security vulnerabilities.

What's your rationale for having a website where the majority of the web-browsing population sees nothing but "Adobe Flash Required" or the page controls don't work.? Requiring Flash on your website puts you in the same position as the buggy whip makers once cars took over in the early 20th century. Flash is 1990s technology. Move on and stay in business.

I think since I wrote that a couple of years ago, the number is more like 700 million now

I know guild wars runs about 50 fps. No lag, not sutter. Both bat mans, not sure about the fps, but ran smooth looked amazing.

IMHO, games are like a big screen T.V. The big screen T.V. at first, well its just HUGE, then after you get used to it, you really don't notice it. Games are kinda the same way, at first, oh look at all the pretty cool stuff, then you spend your time running, jumping and trying to keep your cartoon alive you really don't have time to stop and look at the pretty stuff. If that makes sense.
    LOL, My T.V. runs 1360 by 768.

For the price, and So far the gaming experience, Super Impressed. Just played a bit of Nitro stunt racing. OMG, that was fun.

If gaming or whatever becomes a issue, I will replace it. I just find I am starting to game less and less, Reading more and more.

Very cool tool, I was looking for something like that yesterday... I quickly got side tracked and forgot what I was originally looking for. lol.  That tool works great though and answered an unrelated question I had yesterday.

I measured and casually I sit about 17" away.  Even if my 27" was 4096x2160 (4k) I would have to be 20" away before it was retina.  Yeah, I can move my screen back... but I'm comfortable at 17" (that's what she said).

Interesting calculator for pixel density and viewing distance. http://isthisretina.com

    "What is a Retina display?
Retina is Apple's trademark for a display so sharp that the human eye is unable to distinguish between pixels at a typical viewing distance. As Steve Jobs said: "It turns out there’s a magic number right around 300 pixels per inch, that when you hold something around to 10 to 12 inches away from your eyes, is the limit of the human retina to differentiate the pixels." Given a large enough viewing distance, all displays eventually become "retina."

For a 32" 1080p TV, while the pixel density is only about 69 ppi, at 50" away, the display is about as good as most humans can resolve at that distance. With a 4K 32" 16:9 TV, you get the same effective resolution at 1/2 the distance or 25", which is about how far my iMac is away from me at my desk. So going to 8k resolution for a computer monitor might be overkill. Color accuracy and speed of the monitor become the more important factors at that point
My iMac is a 21.5" model
    1920x1080 21.5" iMac becomes Retina at 34".
CA3LE. Move your 27" iMac so that it's 32" away from you and you probably won't see the pixels....it's 2560x1440.

What resolution are you running?  How far away are you sitting?  What kind of TV is it?

I want a 32" too... but I'd like 4k in my next monitor.  I'm waiting for 4k IPS displays to drop to under $1000.  You can get TN 4k displays for around $700 but I need color accuracy and TN displays aren't accurate... they're kinda weak all around actually.  Read, dude, don't get a dell 4k monitor.  With 8k here I'm sure that it's only a matter of time before 4k is MUCH cheaper... Who knows, 8k could replace 4k before it even gets a real chance to take off.  8k is only noticeable on HUGE displays and is a potential waste of bandwidth so 4k could still become the new standard.  All I know is that after being spoiled with retina and super high pixel density displays it's hard to go back.  I use my 2011 27" iMac with 102 ppi and I see is pixels now.  Didn't bother me before, now it occasionally bugs me.  You probably have your 32" sitting further back than my monitor though.

To be honest, I'm really waiting for a better display that directly interfaces with your visual cortex... the display would be in your mind and would be only limited by your imagination and the power of your brain.  I promise you, it will happen.

My old PC monitor died, and thought why not try a t.v. for a monitor?? Sure wish I would of done this long ago. Games look great, No issues there, and with having a small place, I found it to be a nice space saver.

I hooked it up through HDMI, and my T.V. connection has HDMI, so a simple push of a button I can go from PC to T.V. with ease.

I had seen that games were a issue with using a T.V. as a monitor, I simply don't find that to be a problem. And reading a ebook on this 32 inch, WOW!!! I can burn through a book.
