Honestly, I only use a large amount of space because I keep backups of everything. I use my PC to host files for the entire house. And I only have a TB of storage, and with all my Visual Studio stuff (20-50GB), games (Several dozen GB's) and other miscellaneous crap, I use 200ish MB myself. I have a 2TB external Hard Drive that has only used 680ish GB, with 300GB of Music, and a backup of my old system. As well as several 20GB-50GB Virtual Hard Drives for various virtual OS'es. Now, I don't think it's a bad idea to have a large amount of space, in fact, the guy who posted that rack might only have a few TB of space, due to RAID for backups, etc. Even on my laptop, which I have Visual Studio (Again, 20-50GB) and a few games on, I have only used 101GB. And Honestly, we don't even know how many hard drive slots he has filled. (He may only have the 30 3TB hard drives he showed us installed, which would mean at most he has 90TB of storage. Hardly a Petabyte. (Sorry CA3LE) And I would hardly think he would use it for porn, mostly because that is a huge ($5K+) investment, and JUST for porn? Even Charlie Sheen isn't that dumb. (Alright, that might be a stretch.) Thanks, EBrown

The last two are the port. (242x12=2904), it's the port you are sending the information TO on the server. Passive FTP does this. http://slacksite.com/other/ftp.html Unless you want to UNBLOCK all ports above 1023 on the server, I recommend switching to Active FTP, so that you can only keep 20 and 21 unblocked. (21 for commands, 20 for the data.) Thanks, EBrown

Why are you using a Link-Local address? That seems strange. (Although I don't use Smart-Bro.) Make sure your PC's IP is set in the same Subnet. (169.254.1.2-169.254.1.254) Thanks, EBrown

What is the pricing for it all? (The Datacenter stuff, hosting your server there and whatnot.) Thanks, EBrown
-
Yeah, what Triran said is correct. What I would recommend, is clearing any debris that may be in the way of your satellite. (I assume that is what Wildblue uses by your description.) Thanks, EBrown

Look into Verizon Mifi, or however its spelled. You should be able to get it if you get 3G, 4G or probably even EVDO service. Thanks, EBrown
-
Oh, ok. That makes more sense. So what features does the RAID the OS makes have? Parity, etc. Thanks, EBrown
-
Ok. That's all I wanted. I didn't know if it was an issue or a feature. Thanks, EBrown
-
Alright, that sounds good. Which RAID mode are you using then? (Obviously not 0, 1, or 2 by the looks of it.) Thanks, EBrown

I know the speed test size is supposed to be based on your connection, but I seem to be getting a large variance. When I do a standard combined speed test, my upload size is 193kB, and my Download Size is 2MB. However, when I do the Automatic, it is different. The Upload Size is 386kB, and the Download is 1.4MB. I attached a screenshot. The green one is standard dual test, the red is auto-speedtest. Thanks, EBrown
-
Ah, that makes sense. So is speed really an issue for it then? (I only ask because you may be able to find a cheaper HDD of the same size, just slower.) Otherwise, I think the Seagate 2T's you picked out will work fine. The only issue I can see right now, is the lack of enough SATA power cables on the PSU. (Unless you have Sata to Molex, in which case ignore this.) Here is a PSU with 9 SATA Power Cables out of the box: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207013 It's slightly more expensive than your first choice though, and again, if you have Sata to Molex, yours will work just fine. Thanks, EBrown
-
I recommend 2T's, and I recommend Western Digital. (I have had huge issues with Seagate, mostly with them failing after 3-12 months, almost ALWAYS. I have had the same WD 80G for 7 years, and it still works 100%.) Also, are your RAID cards SATA-II, or SATA-III? Thanks, EBrown

The thing is, you're supposed to be more mature, yet you keep coming back. Fuck you and your direct insults. I don't need that shit, I'll go to my High School if I want it. And thanks CA3LE, for unhiding that post. Mudman had calmed me down until you unhid it. Goodbye Testmy.Net, Elliott Brown

Asshole? Mr. Know It All? Really? Are we six? I present logical facts in a well drawn-out and well-presented fashion and you just start name calling? Jesus, I feel like I am in kindergarten again. I get suspended for beating the shit out of people like you almost monthly. And I wasn't being an asshole, I was presenting a logical argument, albeit with 25% sarcasm, but that's to be expected when you live my life. A life where people like you try to tell me bullshit everyday, I should just start agreeing with you. You want to play a game? How about I play yours. You are a self-centered egotistical sack of human excrement. How's that for name calling? Not original enough, did I use too many big words? Well try this on for size: You be shit homie. Is that more you're language? I don't know, and quite frankly my dear, I don't give a damn. You seem to be getting butthurt over an internet-debate. I hope you don't have a job where you have to collaborate with others, because you are TERRIBLE at reading facts. Shit, you present information worse than Fox News. And that's no exaggeration. You may be right about the OS issue, but at this point it doesn't matter. You act like an immature 12-year-old woman on her period. (I personally have NOTHING against 12-year-olds, or Women, or Women on Periods, in fact, I feel terrible for comparing you to him, and I do apologize.) I really do not need to hear the HUGE amount of crap spewing from your mouth. It's worse than listening to Lindsay Lohan say she doesn't do drugs. Go ahead, live in Apple world. While the rest of the planet believes in logic and facts, and I truly hope one day you come to realize that 90% of the things you say are 100% incorrect, and arrogant. To be honest, you had made a worthy adversary for a while, but now it's getting sad. I have nothing against Apple computes for all of you who use them, just butthurt fanboy's who believe their misconstrued ideas are the truth. By the way, I am 17. You're at least 30, if anything, I should have reverted to name calling. Maybe you should quit being a smart ass 30+ year old who's only glory in the day is to constantly try to prove his bullshit theory's on the internet. Christ, I do this because I have 15 minutes of free time, and hate to see people given entirely false information. You do it because you have nothing better to do, and want to be famous. Well, great! NOW YOU ARE! I am adding you to my list of ignorant son's of bitches, right at the top, above Dane Cook even. Good day, and go fuck yourself. This is yet another person you have pissed off to the point where they have quit Testmy.net, you sorry excuse for a human being. I hope CA3LE is proud of you. You know my father still thinks you're a self centered jackass, I didn't believe him at first, but I should have. And for the record, a large portion of my facts are presented to my by my professor at my Vocational High School. (Multiple CCIE's, What the fuck have you done?) So for everyone who wants to actually get knowledge, instead of living a lie, don't listen to dlewis. Shit, don't even read his posts. Mine may not be 100% true, but I also don't spend hours trying to think of a counter-argument. I spend 20 minutes typing it. I guess if I spent another 10 on Google, I could be 100%, but who wants to be that asshole? Not me. You insult me, I insult you. That's how the motherfucking game is played. And don't act like you're bigger than me, sure you're older, but HARDLY wiser. If there's anyone who doesn't want to send me bullshit ideas, or wants to keep in contact with me, send me a PM. I'll read those. I also have a Cell Phone. Just ask for the number. (Again, in a PM.) If you want to hate on me, send one to. I will personally tell you to fuck off. To everyone: I apologize for the language. Delete the post or ban me. See if I give a fuck. I won't, because in the end I am leaving. I don't want to listen to this Jackass any longer. Go Fuck Yourself Dlewis, Elliott Vincent Brown, Honour Student P.S.: The fact that Apple stole from Sun only adds to my disgust of them. Thank you for telling me that. And it's also based HEAVILY on BSD, of course, I don't expect you to know that. You wouldn't believe it if it were true anyway.

I never used yellow. I used Green. 00FF00 And that wasn't a stipulation. You stated, "Go spec me out a 27" iMac equivalent with much better specs for less," you did NOT state "while keeping in mind that I will be using non-OEM parts for the computer." You and Mudman are telling me two COMPLETELY different things. "Designed to work together," and yet you are buying aftermarket? Where does the "designed to work together" come into play there? OH! I FORGOT! It doesn't. Also, your comparison is wrong. "Taking your config (No SSD) your at $1870 to a stock 27" iMac with 16 GB of ram from Newegg which is $1770." You left out the Core i7, the stock iMac 27" is a Core i5*. You, who claims to know Apple so much, should know that. In reality, my config trump's Apple's in the Technical comparison. I don't have $6000 to do a Lab Study, but if I did, I would. And I would use two non-biased parties to judge it. (See note below.) Also, you are all forgetting one HUGE fact: The Mac OS (OS X) is based ENTIRELY on Linux. It is just a customized version. Please don't confuse the issues with the facts. You state that OS X is better, in reality I could take Debian, add a "Dock," and modify the UI a little, and make OS X. Sure, they do packages differently, but the point is, it is based off of the Linux system. *NOTE: If you are going to compare my initial config to a stock iMac 27", use this processor. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115074 Core i5: $190. Brings mine to $1745. I am still $25 cheaper. Which continues to prove my point. You are attempting to compare Apples to Oranges. Yes, they are both roundish, and yes, they are both fruits. But they have distinct flavours and colours, and even growing cycles. Edit: Forgot to mention, the initial Challenge I accepted CANNOT be completed, because you worded it incorrectly. It is PHYSICALLY impossible to find an iMac EQUIVALENT with BETTER SPECS. (I capitalized these so you can see the point, you worded it improperly; however, I will not hold this against you.) Thanks, EBrown

Challenge Accepted. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130579 Motherboard: $85 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115070 i7 Processor: $315 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104262 x2 16GB RAM: $120 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129066 Case: $70 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136533 HDD: $90 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131391 Video Card: $350 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824185011 Monitor: $840 Total so far: $1870 A 27" iMac with similar config: $2799 Seems like I saved $929 by looking up my own parts. (Oh, my RAM was faster btw, and I can expand to 32GB.) Edit: Forgot to mention that Apple charges $150 for a 1TB HDD, whereas I could order multiples of mine for $90 a pop. And I don't know what there SSD is, but here's a cheaper one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820249011 SSD: $380 Cost for iMac SSD: $500. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=557294&CatId=4534 x4 32GB RAM: $500 Cost to upgrade iMac from 4GB to 16GB: $600 Saving again. Another Edit: It is $3649 to MAX the 27" iMac. Using the previously listed items, the total to achieve the equivalent is $2340, $1309 cheaper. When I double my RAM size, it's $2720. STILL $929 cheaper than an iMac with 16GB and a Core i7. (This was without the additional storage NAS.) As I add HDD's and SSD's I am still cheaper. Thanks, EBrown

Hence why I still prefer Windows over Linux, and Linux over OS X. Now, when setting up a network of computers, Linux is usually a good base. Windows works exceptionally well too. Why not Mac's? Unless you have tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars to piss away, what's the point? The "Hackintosh" put OS X on a PC. So really, why buy Apple's Hardware? You can build a PC with Windows or Linux and MUCH better specs for less than a Mac. Thanks, EBrown

Musta been when he found New York. (Pun on the TV show he was in.) Thanks, EBrown

There are several interface bugs (Between IP.B and other applications) that I have seen. A few BBCode and Emoticon issues. (Not really major.) Small PM issues. JavaScript bugs. Most of them are minor. A couple speed issues, that you will see if you view page load time. (I saw a 40% average increase in time taken. 0.150 to 0.210) In all honesty, it can be used on a production environment, but from what I have seen with my own experience it is still buggy. It is not unstable, but there are a few issues that may affect users. Thanks, EBrown
-
3.2.1 Still has some issues that 3.2 had. Minor things. I wouldn't trust it on production yet. Thanks, EBrown
-
Yeah, 3.2.1 is still iffy. The dumbass I run a site with decided to upgrade to 3.2 BETA and then kept complaining to me about how it was so buggy, and how IP.B sucks, etc. It's hard to explain to some people that Beta releases are just that, beta's. I use Windows Server 2003 for my site's, on a Windows Server 2008 Server. Hyper-V All the way. Thanks, EBrown

I mean that your ISP only has a basic tunnel open, and when you request data the Routing Protocol finds a better path after the first request. However, that doesn't look to be the case as the tests got slow approximately 6 minutes after a previous one. It looks like the only issue left is your Modem or PC. I would send the info posted here to your ISP and have them try to fix your issue. (It's most likely an old modem that needs replaced.) Thanks, EBrown
-
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CheckingYourUbuntuVersion It almost looks like that IS the issue to me. If you notice, you got better results IMMEDIATELY after a test. It looks like your ISP is either opening a real connection through the internet, or you have something that is caching the tests. Thanks, EBrown
