  1. Welcome to the forum Summerschool. Unfortunely that is about all the help I can give you for that is a very weird thing to happen. My only guess which is probably pretty far off, is that, you have running processes in the background of your computer and somehow after its been on for a while, increase the CPU usage, hogs up more memory and in turn causes the computers internet to lag. But that is my only guess, i think, we need Van for this one.
  2. so u had this idea on July 13th at 12:09? Just playing, but I was starting to see people ask What is Wrong, only 90% of hosts average with them running 2.9 on a 3 meg connection and I just had to bring it up.
  3. Welcome to the forum kingofslackerz! As you probably know, the FAP is 169MB within a 4 hour period im pretty sure. I would try using NetLimiter. It has and still works for me. Try limiting it to about 50-60kB/s and see how it works for you.
  4. WAR DRIVER! Just kidding, that is actually very weird.
  5. http://www.bredband.com/portal/FORETAG_INTERNETACCESS that is the website for Van's ISP, who I really dislike. I could uncap my Cable Modem, which is illegal and very had to do anymore, but as far as I know, my cable system is still a 38/5 line, so therefore, if I uncapped the modem by changing the config file, I wouldn't get close to that. Point being goes to show how far current cable is, except in some reas, behind other broadband in the rest of the world.
  6. Sorry for not being clearer, I meant since Verizon DSL and Verizon FiOS are both run from the same host name, the speeds will be thrown off. Because FiOS runs, at the lowest 5/2. Whereas DSL runs at 3/768. Most people have a the 15/2 package though.
  7. Verizon DSL is being messed up in the stats because of FiOS.
  8. Def. got the upgrade to 9/1, but it looks as if theres more room if they do decide to upgrade u to 15/2 from the 9/1
  9. Im guessing your on 4/512. Your connection looks very good. Your connection may only be able to get maybe a few more kbps out of the upload and your download is fine. As for the disconnects, I would read VanBuren's suggestions in the Make it Faster section of the forum and if nothing there helps, Contact Cox.
  10. trials are beginning in Pittsburgh and somewhere else, i doubt it will ever take off and i dont think the speeds will the greatest
  11. Router has a built in firewall, and for most people, that should be enough.
  12. ive heard this many times about verizon, one department has no idea what their counterparts in other departments are doing.
  13. -15 - 15dB downstream power level is the operating parameters for a moto modem.
  14. Ok last night my Adelphia internet(just internet) went out around 12:30a.m. I went to bed at 2 and it still hadn't come back on. So when I make up this morning its back on, the browsing seemed faster, yet when I came here, my download was horrendous, in my opinion anyway, however the upload seemed to increase another 100k. 15. not to be a dick but........... YES IT WOULD! no he means, if he is downloading a large file and it has maxed out his connection, will his web browsing be any slower. For me, it is slower, but see im maxing my connection most of the time so.... Look into a program like NetLimiter. When you start downloading a file, look at it, Internet Explorer(or if you use a download manager the name of that) will be on there and it will say like Enable Max Limit or something, check that box and make say 10-20 kb/s slower than what your downloading at, it will slow the download down by that much and give you that extra 10-20 kb/s for browsing or other functions. Hope this helps ya.
  16. Bah! Still waiting for my another upgrade from adelphia, oh well, comcast will be here soon so I will get a speed upgrade later if not sooner.
  17. No problem and sorry about the pic, its a webcam pic and i have bad lighting, but you got the idea
  18. I used to buy a server off of www.managed.com they without a doubt were the best I ever had. My former hosts: www.dsdhosting.com -3/5 they have great support and their servers were good, I just couldn't spend the money for so little. www.globat.com - 4/5 very good hosting company all around www.canaca.com - 4/5 Unbelievable plans, make sure to read the pricing structure though www.first2host.net - -1/5, yes a -1/5. They treated me horribly, had terrible service and about a 45% uptime. www.webmasters.com 5/5 - not the best plans, not the cheapest, but without a doubt they absolute best in webhosting, in my opinion of course. There is my breakdown, this list maybe a little out of range for you since its your first website, but maybe as you grow and your website needs grow, these will help you.
  19. Yes it is just into the back of a modem. Below is a picture of the back of my modem, its not very good, but it should help get you the idea.
