  1. May I suggest eliminating the issue by removing this plague , clearing the hosts file and requesting a copy of a well respected members file. Grabbing hosts files from here and there is fine , but go through each entry if you do so. I'm sure you are well aware the wrong entry can and will redirect anywhere you go , to a clone or much worse.
  2. Hence why I never use any antivirus. People everywhere get virus's, and they almost always have an AV installed - or two. Many times these softwares are for peace of mind Vs. real world usability. For instance, say there is a widely known virus, the guys at such n such company have written a fix or even a detection for certain parts of the already active virus. So your safe yes ? Sure , although in order to have a fix or such , first the virus must be discovered and reported , then the fix written and applied to the repo for update. By then you've already read that attachment, or better yet, the doods that wrote the virus , wait for the release of the fix, and change it just enough so that either it's not detected , or circumvents the entire process of detection.
  3. For me , when the jazzy tripe stops responding , or hesitates , or worse yet you'll need to force quit the application before it pops back up like a 14 year old and a girly mag. Say I'm uploading a couple gigs of data , even with a 6Mb upload it takes a few right , so what does the browser do , since it does not have any audio or video, osx says fukkit and bonks it on the bean to take a nap -- but it's really taking a temporary dirt nap. Mind you I'm using 10.8 - as mavericks was trying to do too many thing i did not appreciate , aside my machine is a late 07, seems as if apple left the clean running source to the wind and took on hell use everything available until it twerks out - then make it pass out from no oxygen. As far as i can tell, we are being pushed into this whole secure memory crap before it's ready for prime time, at least in the sense they have applied it. Mavericks is in my mind , much the same as vista was. A great idea, but just a wet dream. Chews through anything not newer - unlike it's predecessors since the intel move.
  4. Since the latest update (that I have done) it seems the browsers sleep. At first i assumed it was just safari, so I started using firefox for something that required it, none the less same tripe. This is not Mavericks, so there is no UI controls for this app nap thing. So I'm looking for a command line to get that crap shut off. It's really twerkin' me.
  5. Yea me too - and I just realized I meant two eight core procs.
  6. Hey thats a good story right there. Too bad it had to end up going the way it did , none the less, awesome. 12 hours of what you are paying for is proof that QOS is enabled. And should not be in a place where the customer is paying, using, and not abusing the contract. I really enjoy reading these. Yes, carry on
  7. Yea thats nice I'll make sure ca3le will see this so he can check the issue.
  8. Just beating it up a little folding in the console. I can't really do anything right now, waiting for sales to get back with me on a machine for the firewall. Just shows the two quad cores running full throttle.
  9. Yea, this gets me off lol Load average anyone ?
  10. As is diminishing another persons aptitude or attempting to discredit or disqualify. He and I have been here before some time ago. And were in the sense as it was , successful. Extenuating circumstances put things on hold , however it is rather interesting this came up at this time, as both of us are in a different place in our lives as well as professions.
  11. Well we'll never know until we go there. You possess quite a few qualities that I think would be very beneficial. Lets talk more and explore that jazzy chit.
  12. Although regarded as 'the best' , the way the term free is bounced around and these new issues concern me. Have you kept up to date on this ? If so , correct me if I am wrong , it's not really free , and hold many restrictions. https://communities.vmware.com/thread/457843
  13. Were cool, it was one of those backhanded compliments you can only give to a friend. So if I called you in particular a smart ass, It would mean just that, because I am well aware of your capacity. Always have been. From the day when I walked up to you and you were actually shorter than I. Now as for the spaces for and aft the comma, <-- is that better ? For some reason a few years ago I had to basically learn to type again and developed quite a few quirks. Like tapping the space bar at strange times when writing sentences in the English language.
  14. Ok pile it on lol Yes I did close without opening - because I (as well as a few million more) are able to mentally process through the differences and or intent or internet grammar / punctuation , and code - as i understand it , Elliott , your skull works in the 5-7 million GHz/ps IQ range, thus i forgive you Hey I also locked everyone else out of the backend a well -- so it was not all that damn bad lol
  15. You should be familiar - dacentec. 85/mnth
  16. Using debian actually. Are you familiar with proxmox ? Some might say 'oh the pretties' (need I say names elliott ) oops I did lol) for VPS hosting as I might have before getting it going locally on a two node cluster. Talk about stable. openVZ - KVM VM's whatever. Well I'll be harassing people because this server is colocation, a power source and a 1GB uplink - thats it. Plans are to get this hosting a few servers and grab another. And so on. Not planning on setting the world on fire , too many others are already doing that.
  17. So here are the specs ~ Architecture: x86_64 CPU op-mode(s): 32-bit, 64-bit Byte Order: Little Endian CPU(s): 16 On-line CPU(s) list: 0-15 Thread(s) per core: 2 Core(s) per socket: 4 Socket(s): 2 NUMA node(s): 1 Vendor ID: GenuineIntel CPU family: 6 Model: 26 Stepping: 5 CPU MHz: 2266.900 BogoMIPS: 4532.65 Virtualization: VT-x L1d cache: 32K L1i cache: 32K L2 cache: 256K L3 cache: 8192K NUMA node0 CPU(s): 0-15 ~# free total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 37061588 587892 36473696 0 9708 91108 -/+ buffers/cache: 487076 36574512 Swap: 36700152 0 36700152 Only a 1TB drive right now but that can be changed as needed. Thoughts ?
  18. lol yes. Good thing I had a snapshot. As if it mattered, this is a testing environment at the moment. Already back coasting along. I did not bother contacting the host about the non working KVM or to administer the box for me, just scratched it and re imaged. They use PPTP which afaik is been depreciated, and is insecure, so chances are they simply have not taken it off the options. Kind of false advertising though. If in fact thats the case and not something I don't know.
  19. Yea, I have KVM to the server but it's not worked yet , even before I did this wonderful trick on myself lol
  20. Since I've not been absent minded enough in the past to actually lock myself out of a server (aside those younger days of 'forgetting the root pass" -- this is a first for me, yes I'm a locked out virgin. Special hey ? And don't do this if you want continued access via root, or anything else. Sure http and https are available for public facing, but thats it. So , I ran --- iptables -A INPUT -i lo -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -i ! lo -d 127.0.0.0/8 -j REJECT iptables -A INPUT -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT iptables -A OUTPUT -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 80 -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 443 -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p icmp -m icmp --icmp-type 8 -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -j REJECT iptables -A FORWARD -j REJECT After saving iptables permanently , opened another shell logged in with the new user also created to take the place of root with the proper permissions, login was fine for that user. After reboot I realized what I had mistakenly forgotten in the chain. See it ? lol Yes thats right , the ssh port - duh-me ? And a couple other things that render the hosts reporting scripts locked out, ah yes there it is - dummy lol As I can see it , the only way to get access would be to have host flush iptables from main server node root. Yes, no ? Idea's ?
  21. Another day of searching, reading reviews, testing does no more than the last several days. You either pay the big boys or you suck it up and go home, taking your ideas (illusions) of grandeur with you. The VPS industry is the worst thing that ever happened to the internet. Sure , it created 10 million sysadmins out of thin air, where everyone is an expert until it breaks, created 20K server 'hosts' give or take 4K , but what truly does any of this accomplish. Instead of harnessing the power of miniaturization geared toward blade servers, we take that same hardware once used for a 'commercial' application (database back then ) added a bit of CPU bandwidth and crammed 100 virtual machines on it that might contain a thousand or more crappy ass websites all screaming for power and seek time. Bah pooey
  22. Tired of the all wonderful 'cloud' - the green spectrum of advertising, the VPS that makes you ' feel good' yet leaves you laying sopping wet on the cold hard ground wondering what just happened to your usability ? Yea me too. So run off and find us a dedicated server with a reasonable amount of ram, at least 16 GB, 64bit proc - or two, a TB of monthly bandwidth, with a GB connection, at least 500 GB sata drive - with a host that has more peers than I do fingers, all I'll be needing is a shell so I can do wth I need to. Yea, get back to me on that one. I'm tired of looking. Only place I find is dacentec, which in all seriousness seems to be getting the cold shoulder from more than if not all peers. Softlayer is obviously the most serious suggestion , at the same time , 2GB ram for 110/month ? Please. When one can hit up dacentec for 32GB for 85/month ? So it would seem , either you want to actually connect to your server, or you want the server to run great, so long as you don't need bandwidth reliability. What a spectrum. Heres a gig to mediatemple VPS from dacentec And here's a gig to softlayer VPS - which I obviously cut short if you look close you'll know why -- And another media temple VPS You don't even want to see what I can pull locally with a 65MB connection - sickening.
  23. Damn boy, not getting any younger either are you ! Keep smilin' - somebodies gotta do it lol
  24. I raise this question simply to bring light on the subject. As you say Roco, you can see others networks, which in itself is a simple fix for them. However this does not insure no one can enter. Aside entering, depending on the share settings in windows as well as the wireless router itself, unwanted peoples can not only see the mac addresses currently connected, but if configured improperly or not at all - which so many decide just to shrug off, at the same time in some instances , view, download, change ext any files not properly secured, on the entire network.
  25. Hey Sparky Yea your right, not much new is there. It would be interesting to get some input on what the latest is on some of these satellite networks.
