  1. Look who started folding again a couple weeks ago
  2. I'll take a stab in the dark and say there could be some filtering / QOS within the policing policy of the security appliance. Or more likely this is a class maps issue. When you take the ISP's test, chances are the streams are coming from the internal network, consisting even of various nodes within their network, not a very good gauge for real word throughput. Where testing the same way at testmy.net , you are pulling an aggregate from any variable you set before the test. The simultaneous packet/per flow if set determines this factor. A good setting to test might be "session packet 45" Depending on the model, you may also want to look at 'service-policy police' within the class maps. And see if there are a pile of dropped packets, before making many changes to the config.
  3. Try and post what issues you are having. Are you obtaining the speeds that you are paying for ? What is the bandwidth that you are paying for if you know Run a trace route and ping to testmy.net as well as google.com and post here To ping a host... Windows Start > Run > type CMD [enter] > from the command prompt type ping google.com and/or ping testmy.net Linux / Mac Under Applications/Utilities open 'Terminal' > type ping google.com and/or ping testmy.net Paste those results here. To run a traceroute... Windows Start > Run > type CMD [enter] > from the command prompt type tracert google.com and/or tracert testmy.net Linux / Mac Under Applications/Utilities open 'Terminal' > type traceroute google.com and/or traceroute testmy.net Paste those results here.
  4. I believe ISP's generally only test and define usability within their own network. So you'll get routed directly along side of the pipe your connected to. Entirely useless for testing real world usability. Flash IMO is a total waste of time in the current configuration means of testing. I ask myself, when do I use flash to browse or download, not very often , at all. Uploaders sometimes use flash for multiple files, there are legit reasons, none the less not for testing throughput. Run a few ping tests to google.com and testmy.net , also you could use a trace route to find the weak link. If you choose post the results here excluding your public IP. 50% of paid bandwidth is unacceptable lets find the issue.
  5. If I remember correctly, DD-WRT had included this feature.
  6. Interesting for sure. I might begin looking at the network setup. Make sure there are no QOS settings that are hindering the bandwidth. Not being familiar with xbox I can't walk you through, I would start by adding a static IP to the xbox both wired and wireless. After resetting the router to defaults. Make sure though you know the default passwords and can set the wireless security again before resetting.
  7. Following the news is one thing, there are many new items being told of daily, maintaining a test site and developing new features is another. As well as hosting hundreds if not thousands of databases of geographical / ISP related bandwidth such as testmy.net does. We rely not only on the tech news streams, as well as user input, so thank you for contributing.
  8. I can only suggest that you post the modem/router name and model number.
  9. Problem solved. Grabbed an ATI HD2400XT which has DMS-59 splitter. Seems there are only a few cards that will work well with the onboard graphics and PCIe 0o Right now just using surround view with three 17" monitors. I've got another 17 but cannot use surround view with more than three. None the less, already four monitors on the desk not including the laptop so a re arrange is in the future before adding the fourth to that system.
  10. Another windows dilemma Internal graphics works fine with two monitors. Install a PCI video card and it simply can't figure it out. Setting the PCI card in the BIOS as primary, it works as it should. Not both together, does not detect the other two displays or the PCI card. And microsoft wonders why it needs to resort to it's cloud office 365 ,looking into the future. \ Boot ubuntu and no problem , four monitors as it should be. With default install drivers.
  11. Just for analytics, I might try and set QOS on the highest performing device, to lower than the max achieved on the lowest performing device. Whatever your findings would you post them please
  12. Interesting, how did this start, random error or while changing the paper size, or adding paper ? My next move might be to remove the drawer tossing the error, after shutting the system down. Restart the system with the drawer removed, when you get the complaint , insert the drawer and set the default paper size you want for the drawer. If that does nothing then set the paper size to anything that stops the complaint. If this interferes with your requirements, you might consider changing another drawer (paper size) to what you need.
  13. I've elected to do a factory reset on machines that play that game. Especially machines with more than two drawers. Some of these have chips within the drawer, that go bad. Do you have the user manual ?
  14. How long has this been going on ? If you are using your ISP's DNS, use either googles DNS (8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4) you can also add openDNS (208.67.222.222) And make sure the DNS on the machine is set to use the router/switch DNS
  15. This is sounding precisely what is happening. How did you fix this ?
  16. Yes they do, they are bound by a small handful of 'companies' or services that provide streaming media. These companies have been and continue to draw in substantial benefits from these services. Something I don't see just going away soon , simply because developers are much more interested in revenue themselves, utilizing what is already available to stand upon when building their idea. This is a level of development that is on another playing field than streaming media. Which is far less formidable when deciding to delve into one of the largest markets in social media revenue. Why be concerned about these little details, when all that needs done is to find an opinionated / knowledgable demographic, in any given niche to draw in viewers slash clickers, then utilize one of the several already widely used plugins for video. Just add a small script and you have instant website. This to me is a major failure of ingenuity let alone individually prospecting ones own creativity. I mean look around , you can go from one site to the next, which is more or less the same thing , different layout different coloring and a few features that vary slightly. Not much new. We are bound and stuck in the mud by our own complacency.
  17. Thats just the thing , originally i installed zero drivers, windows did this one on it's own during the initial OS install. After fooling with it on and off for a couple weeks, I truly don't need sound on this box. The only reason I jumped in with the thread is that I could use to hear alerts I set. None the less, not of any great importance. Maybe I'll re image, more than likely I'll just let it go. It's an old board I've had for at least 5 years anyhow. A780GMH
  18. Used adobe flash uninstall , reinstalled and were good to go. I can't truly blame this one one 'flash' itself. Who knows what could have happened during the initial install. None the less, it's over, and been over for quite some time. HTML5 anyone ? ByeBye flash - rest in peace, you served your purpose.
  19. Update: After playing a game of 'rookie mistake' , and plugging up to the test port (duh-me?) I realized 'something' had occurred over that weekend. No dial tone line 01. Geezus, first rule, is there a dial tone at the box ? For whatever reason I assumed I had borked something and never thought twice. None the less, at the pole outside there was a flaw from a small spring storm that weekend. It did however torch the entire CCR tree and AA + all tables. After rebuilding everything were good to go. Funny I always ask the person - do you have a connection, or I myself check, whether it be networking or what, always check at the first incoming terminal you have access to, basic rule I glossed over.
  20. No warnings of missing drivers or misconfigured devices, under Sound, video and game controllers, there are two 'high definition audio device' I've never used the HDMI port. This was working a few years ago, re-imaged to use as a dedicated trading platform and seems nothing i can do will bring the 3/16th three ring audio online.
  21. Windows7 the digging thing refuses to use anything other than the hdmi port for sound. What is this tripe ? I'm sure it's PEBKAC - just not sure wth
  22. I love this thread ! I've used a L600r with 512MB RAM P3-600Mhz 100Mhz FSB for several years, running the latest FreeBSD -nogui strictly used for cisco switch administration. It's lightening fast and secure, living on a subnet not associated with any other local network. You can use these older machines for a plethora of things, including file servers, local git repo, firewalls, ect... Not sure about throughput though, I can't imagine it would be all that great. 10GB HDD w/ 10/100 card, it might though. Either way, kudos to you for using 'old' hardware and getting great use out of it
  23. Thanks for the tip on ReactOS ! I'll have to check that out soon.
  24. How are you people getting flash to function within safari OSx 10.9 I've downloaded it installed it , still getting plugin failure, searched apple discussions and the same tripe over and again. Allowed all sites in safari to use flash. Please stop developing in flash. Just allow it to croak belly up peacefully.
  25. I have to agree with j7n here, windows 7, hell even vista (windows7 beta) bashes the HDD over one of a plethora of background services. I walked into a new clients server room and noticed dozens of HDD lights flashing, just after out conversation of him claiming " were not running anything at all at the moment" -- I knew straight away what OS they had loaded.
