Well it's true. I'm not sure what MS business plan is looking like, but I feel it's much more than pleasing their end users. And much closer to closing off and cornering a future market that most are not yet aware of.

Google Malware - worst malware to hit osx ? -
mudmanc4 replied to mudmanc4's topic in General Discussion
I'll have to peek at dukduckgo. Using Icefloor as a guy for osx internal firewall is useful, behind pfsense as a stand alone appliance, dnscrypt, cisco IOS allows for complete port configuration, little snitch as well just that , snitching on applications / scripts that attempt to access any part of the network, and various other tools, nothing will stop something allowed entering or leaving. The issue lies within how google decides to index the planet. One wrong move locally and your entire internal network is broadcast to the world. All seems to be for nothing more than posture. So long as your connected to any port accessing the world, your vulnerable. As none of these items will stop something they do not monitor the frequency, which is something entirely different to what all the commercial softwares stand on. -
Malware can be determined by many things, one key is no uninstall options. Install any google application on your mac, and in comes googles software updater via ksfetch Fair enough right ? Not if you have a care as to how many times per day / hour this script accesses and does 'whatever' it does. After watching this beast attempt to send information outbound day in day out , little snitch complaining literally several times and hour , and blocking it does not work. I found this script for whatever reason , changes ports, what else are you aware of the for seemingly no reason , changes ports when one port is blocked ? Little math needs done there. Why would google want so desperately to send out information from my machine ? That it re installs itself when you track down it's home and remove it ? That means it's somewhere else as well. Again , what else are you aware of that acts like this ? At any rate, after it's installation , of itself mind you I went searching for others asking the same thing. A little google found many people are not too thrilled either. So a patch to stop this malware for now , is to chmod the existing directory to 000 no access. /User/you user name/Library/Google Interestingly enough I have three separate drives attached via USB, clones and backups , each one of these buggers was trying to access the outside world. So this is four attempts several times per hour each, all changing ports attempting one thing or another. If anyone has an actual fix for the worst virus / malware to hit OS X please post up.

First thing I do when a printer gives trouble like this , is to assign it a static IP via mac address if possible Whatever else you can do within the router, to make the device 'stick' , such as assigning a hostname to the printer, most already have this as a sequence of model number and version ext.

Why does my internet shutdown when my fax/phone rings

When you find the problem update us if you would please ? -
Has anyone gotten IceCat browser to compile on 10.8 ? Before I hit the mailing list up lol Fed up with firefox, and safari is just as glitchy as the FF beta builds.

I sincerely respect you sticking to the command line. Several aspects of virtualization require it. However in the end , your creating a GUI for the end user, which you will need to access sections of if any type of financial automation will be required as well. (paypal - banking ect ) Sure you can program in API's for some apsects. If your going to do this , then whcms / hostbill ect will accomplish that, building your customised application over that. I did not start the thread to sway anyone towards proxmox, nor start a big balls match on who can do what in a shell, yet simply to show what free (open source) software is becoming. The software takes the lastest and most useful technologies and combines then as a whole. Usable to those that have not had technical schooling, yet hobbyists and enthusists the same. Virtualization is ever evolving, if this is ones field , they must be nearly completely commited to the technology, attending the various seminars held annually as well as monthly, and continuence of education regarding it.

Xen is popular for sure , it was a hell of a show watching the discussions over the last several years as RHEL purchased the company that made it , then linux as a standard kernel went to KVM. You can live migrate with a cluster on proxmox, change hardware allocation ect on the fly, VM's as well as KVM, although I have not succeeded in migrating an openVZ container just yet. As for openVZ, I'm in love with turnkey linux, working on creating backuppc version at the moment. I have one running locally, Ibeing this is my first one , I need to do a lot more study before thinking of releasing it.

Exactly. When something changes my daily life technology wise, as so many items have, it's difficult to think I won't give them a boost. Life is interesting, the only way I found proxmox is due to my youngest son, yes , minecraft. You say wth is he talking about ? After years of not messing with minecraft myself, which came after assisting as much as anyone could during the initial phases of the game, my son started in with it so I hear " dad -- daddd ' I heard you can have your own minecraft server ' , yes well you can, you get all A's for the year and take all honors classes in jr high , stay in tuba and join marching band and I'll do it. Thats the story. Still don't get it ? After playing around with just about every piece of equipment i have around here , tweaking everything and even trying on a paid VPS, all but poor performance. Hence mineos crux. Hands down lightest wieght specialized server os I have found. Done , right ? Not me .. Dedicate a whole machine around here for a game server no , I was not happy. What a waste. Virtualize it! Back to openVZ it was , but dammit I don't spend enough time to keep up let alone remember what I did last time i managed an HN. Thats the story, so affiliate would be the youngest boy yea, he gets the credit. Now when he hits bandcamp in a week + I still have plenty of machine left for what I need / want to do, while the MC server sits mostly idle, and were lugging him and a sousaphone around this part of the state for football games. Iv'e not yet mapped a dyn domain name to it yet, but if anyone plays, your more than welcome to, but I must say, one mess up and poof banned, hell I've spent days building up and so have a couple others, I'de hate to see someone come in and be a pin head lol I should add , at this point you still need to setup your cluster through the command line, which has changed a bit, none the less, remarkably easy to setup, migrate, backup, snapshots, ect and control all nodes through one interface.
-
After several years on and off, learning console commands for openvz, getting frustrated with the ever changing and problematic clustering of HN's , I've found a sweet spot, proxmox. Nothing I have used , have worked this flawless and stable, of course ESXi is something I've only dabbled in , where vspere is costly, proxmoxVE is open to the public much in the same way RHEL / centOS is. As an example: At the moment I've move the minecraft server into a VM, allocated 2 CPU's and 2GB ram, where previously mines Crux used 4 CPU's and 8 GB ram, now running virtually with less than half core resources, no complaints from the users either. Of course the new minecraft server is turnkey, which all together simply outperforms crux ten fold, at least in this environment. Getting started on migrating windows server 2008 on the second node, which of course should be a blast in itself, but hey it's windows, so we'll deal with the overly complicated malarky. On another note, you can either create a VM or CT, openvz will use KVM and as always CT's can only use openVZ kernels. None the less installing windows7 as a VM is a breeze, I was amazed at how the system automatically sets up the bridge and virti0 interfaces, duh-me ? Simple and easy. With a plethora of templates instantly downloadable, proxmox is king at the moment in my eye's. You might be thinking 'sounds like proxmox has taken all the control out of your hands and automated it , just the opposite actually, don't expect to image and run , you'll need to do a bit of background on basic usage. proxmox here and now is combining the best of todays virtual solutions into one UI that rivals the best, in fact they use the best, built on the very same technology as the best. Five out of five stars Proxmox 3.0 !!!! BTW , support is the least costly of anything that comes close , well , nothing really comes close at the moment. For less than 10US/ month if you choose. Amazing !!!!!

Oh sweet , I've not noticed that

Why does my internet shutdown when my fax/phone rings
mudmanc4 replied to Jon Perrett's topic in New Members
Welcome to testmy.net Jon I'll stand by cable and triran's posts and say the problem is a filter. If this does not clear up the issue immediately check the QOS setting in the voip routing device, or online control panel if this is vonage. Run a few bandwidth tests at several of testmy.net servers to insure there are no underlying issues as well. -
Thanks for the suggestions guy's - still hanging in there for the right card. This machine will be used primarily for minecraft (client) , and I'm sure some other games, no need for the high end. But MC has changed a bit and requires quite a bit more to overcome the leaks of java. I have been harassed long enough - so the local MC server is up, his friends are kickin' chicken remotely, and he's using his old dell D810, which is awesome running school work w/ centos / libreoffice ect - but java, not so much. So I gathered up what I had around here, an Intel board w/ a 2.8 Ghz proc windows 7 and were golden aside the video card. Found a brand spankin new saphire 128 MB card in the pile, but the damn thing was obsolete when 7 came out. He has the PS3 and 3DS-xl so hey, not quite ready for high end on the PC.

Been a while since I bought a video card, so you that are in the know might get to help me yes ? PCI budget around $200 windows 7 compatible I have looked around quite a bit, yet knowing the technology from 5 or more years ago does not help me make an educated decision. So any help will be greatly appreciated. Any questions you need to ask about the existing hardware? What say you ? thanks

Yea I noticed this as well. Your able to get a bit more granular with the gui than in the past. Spun up a local box for storage and folding ect last week.

I should have stated this is windows XP 32 bit

I have been working extensively on this machine, scanned with everything I have, remove hundreds ( upwards or one thousand ) virus's + maleware , worms, everything you can think of, was all downloaded by a tiny exe file in an attachment called ' invoice copy' This nasty bastage wormed it's way through the entire windows intranet, wreaking havoc each place it set up home. Including momentarily getting the companies domain blacklisted on one certain security network. I cannot find this puppy, after roaming through the registry by hand for literally days on end. Unless I've just gone through using the windows recovery console to run fixboot and fixmbr, 'something' trashes the bootfile. I did run the following commands: copy c:\windows\system32\config\system c:\windows\tmp\system.bak copy c:\windows\system32\config\software c:\windows\tmp\software.bak copy c:\windows\system32\config\sam c:\windows\tmp\sam.bak copy c:\windows\system32\config\security c:\windows\tmp\security.bak copy c:\windows\system32\config\default c:\windows\tmp\default.bak delete c:\windows\system32\config\system delete c:\windows\system32\config\software delete c:\windows\system32\config\sam delete c:\windows\system32\config\security delete c:\windows\system32\config\default copy c:\windows\repair\system c:\windows\system32\config\system copy c:\windows\repair\software c:\windows\system32\config\software copy c:\windows\repair\sam c:\windows\system32\config\sam copy c:\windows\repair\security c:\windows\system32\config\security copy c:\windows\repair\default c:\windows\system32\config\default Type exit to quit Recovery Console. Your computer will restart. Hoping the turd was hiding within - no such luck. Now I would at this point normally just harvest the documents and needed files, at this point it might be fruitless, since I cannot locate the culprit. Yes I have scanned in safe mode, with all the 'popular' tools and removers ect, as well as a few linux based boot disks with the latest updates loaded into memory. Suggestions are welcome.

Apple seems to be, as predicted when they did not include flash in iOS, and give warnings as well as shut off flash by default on the lastest safari update -- pushing the community away from flash. Someone had to do it. Are you using the youtube html5 trial ? This is youtube without flash works flawlessly on all browsers I have used, in fact , much faster.

Apple Mavericks - whats new-aside the old linux name ?
mudmanc4 posted a topic in General Discussion
Ubuntu 10.10 was not exactly the hottest version , maybe apple can make this name something to talk about outside of whats wrong ? Great , a new version , happy day - oh for joy. But will there be many improvements outside of more social networking integration ( tripe only end users want to play with ? ) Seems to me I remember the processor Ghz hitting a wall some time ago , is apple and for that matter, windows found the same fate ? What to do next, integrate the latest in wireless technology , which senses the ambient changes a human body makes in the radiant frequencies, so movements of extremities can replace " the clapper " lights on -- lights off " ? -
Yes I know, I must frequent a site that does that jazz, it's terribly annoying. He even has autoplay video's , startles the shit out of me, and makes me pass up the site when it comes up , unless I cannot find the answer somewhere else first.
-
True , but honestly, if it were not for ads, several of my sites would not exist. No other way top pay for the server ect unless I sell something , a service or such. Like testmy.net , afaik this is still totally free due to ad revenue ( although I have no authority to speak of such things ) - I've never paid for a test here, and the upkeep and bandwidth here is not at all in the slightest inexpensive i know. So ads are a good thing. At any rate, much appreciated bud, this has been a thorn in my side for a while now , and has gotten much more problematic. Even with the developer menu allowing me to change UA's, something was amuck at the core. So thank you big time !
-
YES, it is !!! I notice the same thing. I don't mind it , hell , thats the way it was always supposed to work, now were getting closer to what we want , instead of what is been pushed into our faces for lack of any actual local data to explain to the ad server. Scary, nah , it's made to work together like this. Besides, with google integration into the browser gone as far as it has, and every search made stored on google, the server that renders the ad unit looks at the history and poof , there you go You can do a few things to stop this but why. Like log out of google ( you might not even know your logged in all the time once you log in without resetting the browser ) top that with chrome even safari now , it's connected to your google profile , youtube FB and one of ten other high volume sites that you use to log in automatically, so each visit to that site, pow , your in there. I notice this willany stackexchange site , same thing.

This is what I did ( after tweaking your UA for my system ) defaults write com.apple.Safari CustomUserAgent "\"Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_8_4) AppleWebKit/8536.30.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/6.0.5 Safari/8536.30.1\""
-
Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist Each profile will be different , so use terminal with sudo ( if you have root access applied ) and use nano for the editor. Knowing most of the data will be illegible, it's a binary file, but the UA string and your recent history / cookie open will be seen.

Strange as shit -- now safari is reporting as 6.0.5 -- ok , I see that jazz is not something I have had to cover until now. Damn , page loads have doubled here. I imagine i wont be using ^r each time i want to see a video on youtube anymore, and a few of the bike forums I goto are loading screaming fast as they should. This shit really did not make much difference aside analytics years ago ( then again I'm likely just not familiar to say one way or another ) but now , BIG time with all the mobile devices and setting people use to control who see's what and when per UA string. Thanks, again pgoodwin
