  1. 20 minutes ? Is this a typo for 20 seconds ? And there are tools to set topics as solved, best answer ect .... but the commander in chief is always neck deep in a million lines of code running the site , which renders his forum admin time down to the nub lol Yes, I know , don't poke the lion , but then again , I have ALWAYS poked the lion , got away with it too Maybe if I harass him like no tomorrow , he'll get all fired up at me , and take it out on the forum admin section !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. We still have a ways to go -- don't write this off too quickly, at least in my opinion we still have a few things to get straightened out , or at least answers for yes ? Can you tell me what the model number of your modem is ?
  3. Later today i will look further into why the modem is leasing IP's in the range it is , to me that should not be. Have you found the instructions I sent you on del attachments yet ?
  4. I sent you message through report center as well as your personal messenger. Anyone else needing to edit , view or remove something they have uploaded or attached, edit your profile > look to the left menu , find ' manage attachments' and click it , you'll be able to remove anything there.
  5. Chances are you were more clear then I was absorbent So the plot thickens with the machines commonly set already to accept a dynamic IP. Which leaves the router.
  6. Ok I'll see about finding something on the settings in '8' , should be rather simply hidden, as microsoft tends to do sometimes. brb ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Right click on the 'network' icon and chose 'Open Network and sharing Center' Now, select the connected network Option you can see the network with which you are presently connected. Connection Status window will pop up. Click on Properties. Scroll down a bit and click on 'Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)' And tick 'Obtain IP address automatically' as well as 'obtain DNS server address automatically' and press 'OK'
  7. I'm really shocked comcast is not following standards. Using a 24 bit block instead of a 16 bit. Generally those IP ranges are left for modems, at least in the case were speaking of. Your local net should look something like modem IP 10.x.x.xx => gateway - 192.168.1.0=>192.168.1.1 leasing from 192.168.1.2-224. I'm sure another comcast member will have a real explanation on that, to me it's borked and does not follow IPV4 standards. Really it does , but not. Power down all machines. Dis connect the cat5 cable ( blue or yellow sometimes grey Ethernet wire ) from the windows 8 machine. You should reset the modem, if there is a button on the back recessed, hold it in for 20 seconds, then unplug the modem, while continuing to hold the button , plug the modem back in , and continue to hold. 20 second - 20 seconds - 20 seconds. Before powering anything else up power up the windows8 box, STAY physically disconnected from the modem and find the network connection preferences, set the connection to get an IP via dhcp -- not static. Then plug the windows8 box into the router/modem/ tower of aweful -- post what happens. If you cannot get online with that machine , figure a way to get online with another and post up yes ? BTW - I'm not really that kind, ask my youngest son right now , - just had him do homework he wanted to do ' later ' lol
  8. The difference between the two is so small , chances are greater than not , since the browsers dynamic is constantly changing , as the data flow does, that testmy.net is equating the movement with a bit more math. Hence a more true result. Yet at these speeds , discrepancies can vary widely, due to network traffic as well as memory usage on your local machine, not to mention HDD seek times ect. You should run the auto test for a few hours, and see what the average is.
  9. When you say gateway , are you referring to the modem / router combination device ? The two were possibly one wired mac and a wireless mac, which would have accounted for the double entry. At the same time , the only logical reason on a simplified intranet for conflict , could be a static Ip was set on the wired side, and not listed outside of the dhcp range , before the laptop was connected to the router / modem or of course any time in between, but you would have to know this, unless someone else had control of the laptop before you. Again , if you had a PPOE connection before comcast, which required a static IP per device or almost any other reason want or need, for a static IP. This would account for you not seeing the IP within the router, as the static IP after restore, is again , within the dhcp range, or on a subnet -- ie: 192.168.2.1/24 Vs. 192.168.1.1/24 /32 ect Check your IP is set to dhcp and within the comcast dhcp range. Running XP ?
  10. Hi Melchior, Good place to start at testmy.net would be > here and here < I'm certain you'll have a question or two after reading them , feel free to jump in any time with that
  11. Latest version anyone has of a hackintosh ?
  12. You can try this users solution to reset your canopy Also there are extensive topics within the Smart Bro section Please post back your results
  13. Haha, yes, for some reason - it happens. When i think of where technology is going, not sure if the google glass thing is such a great idea. As you say look where it will lead. Just think about it and it happens. Uhhg , that could be dangerous -- aka cyber doinking lmao Law suits by the crate full -- " he cyber doinked me " , no I did not , I did have a look at your voluptuous poop box though on my way to the market HA ! lol
  14. I'm pleased to finally deal with the vnc issue of 10.7 - it's rippin me an new one here. As I've always used one machine to admin everything , my plan is to get this (a) secondary osx box up, and use it for a primary workstation. This will solve a plethora of issues I've been dealing with , such as the restriction of two monitors, with a different box I can easily utilize four monitors, two vnc off the MBP and the other two off the secondary (primary) box.
  15. iDeneb with sse2 fix installed flawless. Using it here now. I'll play a bit , although I'm used to osx , I'll be looking to get this AMD up, and at the least a newer version.
  16. So far no love, I suppose I'll need to get a bit deeper into it. The AMD thing is a real pia. Gonna take an intel proc / board and see what can be done.
  17. Holy wow batman - still looking a couple years later dang, if you do find something let us know yes ?
  18. Ya, been running MBP since late 2007, before that was iBook G3 PPC - I've been playing - almost had it, used nawcoms and snow leopard, went quite the way into installation and halted on four CPU errors I neglected to note. Funny, mac is aware I'm cheat in on her, woke up this morning to a bad fan in the MBP lol I cannot seem to get much out of using ata drives, the board has one IED socket I chained the DVD + the HDD to, aside that any ata drive kernel panics. Tried flag after flag, set AHCI in BIOS. Grabbed a sata 2.3 HDD grafted into a USB enclosure and did the one click install through disk utility, which is what I booted from now. I'll have a go at this on the AMD here in a bit. See what I can break
  19. Yes the proc is from 2009, nope not slow I agree. I did find a few places that were discussing the latest in AMD crackintosh installs, just not taken the time to do my homework on it. Mindcue if you find anything solid in your endeavors linking me would be greatly appreciated
  20. Ya, this is the drive. >here< Had to look it up by model number, 16 MB cache - duh me The thing is maybe a year old or so. From what I see the system is reporting 1.5 GB link, on the controller. I moved most everything last night -- has room now AAR the AMD machine is an old Phenom II X4 945 plugged up to a A780GMH/128M asrock , running dmidecode --type 0 Reports bios version 1.2 I derailed the piss out of your thread mindcue, sorry man I've never broken the habit
  21. Reasons I still run a 35+ pass DoD on the drive, is I've played around enough to see performance gains from a clean disk, that and I truly tear up my disks, writing overwriting deleting moving and filling them up until they start whimpering. Yes this causes me issues for a while, accessing the files on storage servers locally instead of cmd+space /type the file name - that alone always borks me up for a while. That and my disks are always jam packed , no way to even download let alone install in this manner. Adding a 1TB drive unless it was an SSD would turn into a nightmare for me. Running a 2.4 Ghz 4 GB 256 GB vram machine , with a SATA drive is tough enough, while daily using photoshop, transmit, a couple browsers , Coda2 + just about maxes out the memory and disk seek time with the 500 GB drive even at 7200 rpm w/ 8 MB cache after a few hours. No chance of getting an SSD even close to comparable at this point. Honestly I've been wanting to take a machine here and turn it into a crackintosh , but it's an AMD and afaiu it's a total pia, although I'm not beyond jumping in their. Hell I've given appl plenty of denero over the years and posses their OS disks from PPC to now.
  22. Excellent -- now, guy's convince me to grab 10.8 , as this one is still running 10.7.5 Why would I , or why would I not. What are the changes i would benefit from ( aside the I love apple just update the OS because ) Only thing i dread is I do not do the auto upgrades , ever. I'll burn the dmg that's downloaded and re- install from scratch -- uhhg with all the data on the 500 GB drive now.
  23. I dunno dude, just my opinion but the mobile thing, at least with the devices we are offered at this point is a buildup to a much larger 'thing' -- but not for quite some time. Myself I cannot see having just a mobile device, I don't want to type on a screen or find a place or a way to hold some fragile slice of overpriced tech. I'm not bashing them , just saying personally I can't see restricting myself to something like that. Hell I'm always waiting to get a larger screen , another screen, a faster proc w/ more memory to handle the several applications (no - not apps lol I still have enough energy to finish the word ) Yes if all you do is email youtube pinrest or of the likes then I can see it. At the same time with this fad all I see is a nation / planet filling up with end users instead of people getting more interested in developing and furthering their imagination, by expressing it through code, which is what all these things use to display a pretty image of a donkey with a chimp huggin it , or better yet , a nice looking female with a birdy hanging out on her well endowed chest -- yup I said it Anyhow from my viewpoint, I'm 43 and been playin around inside machines since before we had that thing called the internet, I find myself delving deeper as time goes, always playing catchup, learning new ways to do things I've used for years but never gotten into enough to actually develop. Just saying, try not to look down , try and look forward. Always learn something new, I believe that and quite possibly that alone is what keeps the mind in shape. That excitement of something new to add , the frustration of not knowing what to do next to achieve your minds projection and bring it to fruition . And finally implementing your creation, and all the time moving forward with the next ongoing dilemma you've conjured up mentally. I've been repeating this for years in a jocular manner , but years ago sitting with an elderly man ( which can be very much more rewarding in so many ways it's almost impossible to describe, getting the thoughts out of wisdom) thoughts are tools to be used for advancement, anyhow , the man said to me funny enough , you know how to stay alive ? He said , no , really , alive and well ? Keep your woman working , keep her mind moving and yours as well , otherwise the woman goes off the deep end and gets lost within her and your own box. And you'll soon join her there. Wherever that is. Mental Vision - keep it !
