sweetB Posted May 3, 2006 CID Share Posted May 3, 2006 Hi I live in Southern Spain. Our ISP has a monopoly so no choices. We pay 29.90 Euros a month (about 38 Dollars) for a very unreliable 1 MB connection here in the mountains. Its not bad at the moment but test done at 6 in the morning! We're lucky if the link is stable and if you complain the operators cut you off. They send technicians out who never come back. They are the worse ISP in Europe and I wish I had more choice. They are called Telefonica. :::.. Have you read through these: http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-4257 http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-11975 And only when you are sure it is clean, try a cablenut file. It may take a three days to fully set in. http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-1013 Enjoy.
sweetB Posted May 3, 2006 CID Share Posted May 3, 2006 Hi Tommie, Thanks for the links. I use the Adaware cleaner and AVG Free which seems to do the job most of the time. I have had some trouble getting onto Guild Wars lately and my line keeps dropping when I eventually get on. Truthfully, I think its Telefonica

tommie gorman Posted May 4, 2006 CID Share Posted May 4, 2006 Sneek about the only way I know to get those kind of speeds, is to steal wifi from your neighbor. Or to tap into a family members line. sweetB Posted May 5, 2006 CID Share Posted May 5, 2006 sweetB do you ever clean with AVG in safe mode? Have you tried a cablenut file tweak yet? Have you cleaned out your registry yet? Those were in the links. Hi Tommie, I haven't used AVG free in safe mode, would it make a difference? I regularly clean the registry as I have to demo lots of games for the shop before I buy them. I will try cablenut on the server this weekend as we are shutting the shop to upgrade the computers with new graphics cards and bigger harddrives. I tried TCPOptimize but to be quite honest I wasn't terribly sure what it did or whether it improved things or not. I tested it on my laptop too (where my Guild Wars is) and it definitely improved the smooth running of the game. I will let you know on Monday the results of the cablenut file tweak. Thanks for your help. sweetb
