Sharky2006 Posted November 26, 2006 CID Share Posted November 26, 2006 I am looking for a program that is free, optimizes well, and helps with my connections. Basically, I use OOL 15/2 and don't use my computer for gaming or anything. I just use the internet, Any suggestions?
Blunted 2 Posted November 26, 2006 CID Share Posted November 26, 2006 http://www.cablenut.com/ CableNut https://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php TCP Optimizer
Shug7272 Posted November 26, 2006 CID Share Posted November 26, 2006 http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-1013 TCP Optimizer is probably easiest to use. It is available for download here, attached to the first post.
tommie gorman Posted November 26, 2006 CID Share Posted November 26, 2006 Yep, the Optimizer is the easiest, and requires no settings to change. Only the dial if you want to tweak it. If I can do it, so can you. Some folks like myself have tried both and found the Optimizer faster. Although some like the tweakability of cablenut. Blunted 2 Posted November 26, 2006 CID Share Posted November 26, 2006 i like cablenut better
tommie gorman Posted November 26, 2006 CID Share Posted November 26, 2006 And you do get great speeds also Blunted 2. Actually in your case you might want to go with cablenut. I think most folks on OOL here have that. Like speedy up there. <<< They really need to change the sign. Or make a new one.

coknuck Posted November 26, 2006 CID Share Posted November 26, 2006 I like Cablenut better, TCP Optimizer runs a little smoother but at the cost of less speed.
tommie gorman Posted November 26, 2006 CID Share Posted November 26, 2006 Actually it depends coknuck. Each is a case by case study. 2 things that slowed down my computer were Firefox and cablenut. I get much better speeds with IE6 and TCP Optimizer. Really.
coknuck Posted November 26, 2006 CID Share Posted November 26, 2006 I use Maxthon browzer. Which is basicly IE6 with tabs and a little faster.
tommie gorman Posted November 27, 2006 CID Share Posted November 27, 2006 Somethings are dead on what to do [never use regular cheap Norton, McAfee, or AOL] But most things have exceptions. I hear a lot about Maxthon, might try it some day. I did try IE7 and it did slow operations a bit, not the speed but the way I do things out of habit. Finally decided it was not worth the change. Tabs, is that like IE7's tab browsing??
coknuck Posted November 27, 2006 CID Share Posted November 27, 2006 Tabs, is that like IE7's tab browsing?? Yes. I like it a lot better than IE7. I tried IE7 in the beginning and got rid of it. Edit: just noticed I became a TMN Veteran after alomst two years.

g0moz Posted December 3, 2006 CID Share Posted December 3, 2006 hi I am on a adsl and up to 8 meg broadband. but like i said before i can only get up to five or six. it must be how far i am away from the exchange. before i used drtcp I was only getting 1.5 and up to 2 meg . but after the tweaking suggestions it made a big improvement.
