I just noticed something, scoob8000  was using the 20 meg test fella's.

http://www.testmy.net/tools/test/d_load.php?&st=st&tt=1&ta=1&top=000&out_src=20MB

And you were using the 12 meg.  :wink2:

I assume a larger file will produce more accurate results?  I'll have to try again with the 12mb file.

I'll also try it off peak when everyone else isn't downloading pr0n..  :)

size is not the whole story, progressbar slow me down aswell. If you have a fast computer progressbar shouldnt make a diff, but im currently on a AMD 1700+ from -01

thats a big difference in speed from the 12mb to the 20mb file van. why are you on a old amd 1700+?

ah just realized i need to fix my sig, dont have that Dell anymore :(

I been leasing it from my former employer, but i quit the job for another, so i had to return the pc or buy it. I choose to return it cos they wanted me to pay 2 662,22 USD for it even tho it was 1 year old...

i offered them 2 014,65 USD, but they refused.

Well. now I'm back on my old PC. will buy a new next year

I'm near Pittsburgh, PA so it would make sense that the NY server is faster because it's closer.  Doing a traceroute it's actually only one hop closer than the TMN servers though.  10 one way and 11 the other.

Oh well..

Why is everyone up on the C2D chips?  You can pickup an AMD X2 for a chunk less and get pretty close to the same performance.  Or get a dual core opteron.  Oppys have 1mb of L2 for each core.  I just built a pretty kickin'  (for me anyway) Oppy 175 rig (2.2ghz x2).

Also I would think your 1700+ should be able to handle the bandwidth okay.  Try leaving windows task manager up on the performance tab while you do your test.  See what your CPU usage goes up to.  If it's getting pretty high, try a flat file test without the progress bar.

It may be a matter of memory too, how much RAM do you have?

Wow, does it max out with the flat file too (no progress bar)?

Try running again with the process tab open, click the CPU column to sort by CPU usage.  Then you can see what is maxing it out, browser, etc..  If it a system process I would think about the NIC card.

Some cheaper and on-board network cards rely pretty heavily on the CPU to do their work.

Sorry to hijack my own thread here..  hehe
