brokersdad Posted January 7, 2007 CID Share Posted January 7, 2007 Hello to you all, I just stumbled across this forum today while looking for info on Xplornet, and I have some questions i'm hoping I can get some help with from someone here. You guys all sound so knowledgable about satellite internet and I know absolutley nothing so please bare with me. I have recently picked up a Xplornet KA-Band two way satellite system. Before I go into a long post here, does anyone here have the know-how on how to install these systems and get them beamed in to their signal? Any replies appreciated Thank you simi
coknuck Posted January 7, 2007 CID Share Posted January 7, 2007 simi-dimpskin, Welcome to the forum. I'm sure someone with some knowledge of Xplornet will come along and give you an answer. I'm on cable so I won't be of much help.

tommie gorman Posted January 7, 2007 CID Share Posted January 7, 2007 As a member it should be in the very top right hand corner. Like this. "Hey, tommie gorman, you have 13 messages, 0 are new. Total time logged in: 69 days, 12 hours and 45 minutes. Show unread posts since last visit. Show new replies to your posts. " Hope that helped. And welcome to the forum

brokersdad Posted January 8, 2007 Author CID Share Posted January 8, 2007 Nobody here able to give me any ifo on the installation of my dish? Im on dail up now and from some of the negative stuff I see here on Xplornet, im kind of leary of hooking it up. Seeing people are having problems with their speeds and service from Xplornet, almost sounds like it might be more of a pain than anything..idk ? If I could , i'd like to be able to get this thing hooked up myself, and that way if I dont care for it i'm not out alot of money for a hookup. tommie gorman Posted January 8, 2007 CID Share Posted January 8, 2007 You might try posting in the help section. I am suprised some of the other satelite users have not volunteered. I would but I have no idea how to do that. I would PM ghostmaster or grandpa. They are pretty sharp on sat's. Sorry I could not help. granpa Posted January 9, 2007 CID Share Posted January 9, 2007 Nobody here able to give me any ifo on the installation of my dish? Im on dail up now and from some of the negative stuff I see here on Xplornet, im kind of leary of hooking it up. Seeing people are having problems with their speeds and service from Xplornet, almost sounds like it might be more of a pain than anything..idk ? If I could , i'd like to be able to get this thing hooked up myself, and that way if I dont care for it i'm not out alot of money for a hookup. Since the contract is continuing along with payment it's foolish not to use it no matter how bad it seems to work. I feel a well set up sat system no matter who's should work better than dial-up. And I almost forgot with all the PM's welcome to the forum.
brokersdad Posted January 9, 2007 Author CID Share Posted January 9, 2007 Your opinion is valued by me granpa, and once again as I said in my PM's to you, thanks for your help! So , this goes out to the rest of your satellite internet users. Satellite internet over dial up internet....is it worth it or not! I'll be going with Xplornet..gonna be more headache then fun??? Dish and equipment is already paid for, so I just have to pay probably $150-$200 for hook up. If it;s gonna be a headache and not work any better than dial up, idk, maybe it's not worht tha hassle. Dial up is all I can get as of now so this satelite is my only option! Opinions appreciated!
tommie gorman Posted January 9, 2007 CID Share Posted January 9, 2007 simi-dimpskin it will be better than dial-up. But not better than anything else. Hoope you get a good install. Yes it is worth it.

brokersdad Posted January 11, 2007 Author CID Share Posted January 11, 2007 Lol, not lost yet granpa! If im not mistaken, i'm to be able to get speeds "up to" 512Kbps download and 128Kbps upload. Now I ahve noticed yesterday after doing alot of speed tests that this does run quite rampat. I had gotten as high as 380 and as low as 90 for my dload speeds. Sometimes it seems like there is no activity going back and forht from the server ans my computer when im waiting for a page to load, so i'll click the computer icon in the system tray and and it shows no info being sent or recieved. I find videos off of youtube for the most part will not play without stopping to buffer also. But, it is better than dial up for te most part. here's my test from this morning . :::::::::::::::::.. testmy.net test results ..::::::::::::::::: Download Connection is:: 491 Kbps about 0.49 Mbps (tested with 579 kB) Download Speed is:: 60 kB/s Upload Connection is:: 92 Kbps about 0.1 Mbps (tested with 386 kB) Upload Speed is:: 11 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Server 1) Test Time:: 2007/01/11 - 5:59am D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-V51PHINAM U-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-1RZMSE456 User Agent:: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727)
granpa Posted January 11, 2007 CID Share Posted January 11, 2007 simi-dimpskin Try reducing your browser's cache to 1mb size. Sometimes that works. You may need to increase the cache size but keeping it low seems to help. I lean my PC's for daily and "defrag" often. Worth the try, works for me. granpa Posted January 11, 2007 CID Share Posted January 11, 2007 Not sure, I have the KaZam pkg, i'll have to look. Try reading through this http://www.dslreports.com/faq/satellite , some of it may help you understand. If you didn't need to load software consider it a self hosted system. Now here is something else to read through, http://www.dslreports.com/forum/wildblue , somewhere you'll understand no to expect the top performance, but settle for the best you can make it. The system does work, you need to understand it.
