dn0 Posted May 9, 2007 CID Share Posted May 9, 2007 Welcome to the forum. What does your wired PC get for test results? And, if possible, can you pull your modem levels. If it is a Motorola modem try this link: http://192.168.100.1/signal.htm Paste results here (just text will work).
Aggr3 Posted May 9, 2007 CID Share Posted May 9, 2007 ohmerrymayhem welcome to the forum....but there's a few things that need cleared up before you panic... 1) we have no idea what package you have....if it's one of the lower end plans then you really can't go by the % number as all comcast are averaged.. 2) you need to determine if the other computer was surfing or worst yet..downloading at the time you tested.....as that will drastically effect your speed test.. ohmerrymayhem Posted May 9, 2007 Author CID Share Posted May 9, 2007 Not sure how to pull modem levels, but the wired pc gets... The same, except it's runnin at 19.76%. Still says "may need help" To the second replyer - it's the 60 buck package - the guy said 6mb i believe.

dn0 Posted May 9, 2007 CID Share Posted May 9, 2007 The pings look good, in that group of 50 anyways. I like to see the levels, just try clicking the link below; or type 192.168.100.1 into your browser than choose the "Signal" tab. http://192.168.100.1/signal.htm (this will bring up the internal diagnostics on your modem, unless Comcast blocks it there)
ohmerrymayhem Posted May 9, 2007 Author CID Share Posted May 9, 2007 ok - wouldn't let me pull it up on the wireless - but on the hardlined pc i got this - Downstream: Frequency - 567000000 Hz Locked Signal to Noise Ratio - 40 db Power Level - 2dBmV Upstream: Channel ID - 1 Frequency - 230000000 Hz Ranged Power Level - 46dBmV
dn0 Posted May 9, 2007 CID Share Posted May 9, 2007 Well that all looks good, levels are well within the window and you have a 40dB SNR on the downstream which is very good. Since you have 2 PCs connected, both getting the same slow speeds - the first device in common is the Belkin router. I would try disconnecting the router and plugging the modem straight in to the wired PC and check results. You may need to re-boot the PC and router to get a connection. This should at least help narrow it down to a simple Comcast problem.

FallowEarth Posted May 23, 2007 CID Share Posted May 23, 2007 Well, I think it's safe to say that it's not a line or signal issue -- that leaves your software. Have you cleaned out spyware/virus? Have you disabled browser extensions/toolbars? Cleared cache/cookies? Disabled Firewall? Shut down P2P apps and IMs? Restarted? Tried cablenut?
ohmerrymayhem Posted May 24, 2007 Author CID Share Posted May 24, 2007 Tried all that except for CableNut, but have no clue how it works. Besides the other issues now, it seems I can't stay connected wirelessly from my laptop for more than a short time before it kicks me, saying that the network can't be found. Then I have to wait for it to be 'found' again, which takes anywhere from a few seconds to a couple hours, regardless of how many times I search for it. ALl the while, mind you, the hardlined computer is working fine. Now - my wireless card on the laptop is fine - I connect to numerous networks frequently, and none of them have any issues with speed OR connectivity. On another note, the keys and such to connect to the network are input correctly. Ideas, anyone?

ohmerrymayhem Posted May 24, 2007 Author CID Share Posted May 24, 2007 No, not using norton AV, i'm using AVG for virus. Yes, I use AIM & Yahoo messanger, though not most of the time - it's occasional. No, haven't scanned in safe mode, but I will and i'll get back to you guys. cmoore2004 Posted May 24, 2007 CID Share Posted May 24, 2007 Could you run a test early in the morning? Perhaps your node is just far too congested. My uncle's speeds exceed 12mbit, but right now he's having trouble with low speeds and high latency in the evening.

FallowEarth Posted May 29, 2007 CID Share Posted May 29, 2007 Have you tried connecting either PC directly to the modem by ethernet? It's quite possible that the router is bringing your speed down, and that's really the only way to tell. Be sure to powercycle the modem when you remove the router. Then run another speedtest to show us a before and after.
ohmerrymayhem Posted May 29, 2007 Author CID Share Posted May 29, 2007 Yeah, it's faster without the router. So - I've just bought a piece of garbage router, then?
