mogramjo Posted December 21, 2006 CID Share Posted December 21, 2006 Coknuck? Thank you thank you and thank you. :wink:Now that I've thanked you in advance a wee bit...I must say, I'm getting, as of about 6am here...the rather typical 'dis-connect/reconnect' pattern on my modem that's plagued me lo' these many moons. my *signals* are spot on! And consistant...of course, when it's 'recycling' for no reason..I can't get the log up until it's back online...but they sure look good, but they've always been good. I've had Level 2 tech from Cox check the system pretty well...won't fail when someone's here and on the phone:"Looks good from here!" So, any ideas for me...Wah!! I didn't disconnect from when I moved it yesterday...for 11 whole hours..today? Yuk! I use disk cleanup mostly because it does not remove cookies on TMN. Where ccleaner does. It is part of XP. Should be next to defrag in start*all programs*accessories*system tools* next to defrag. Anyway 6 months on defrag? I use it before I even log on as soon a I get my daily AV updates and such. I only use ccleaner maybe once a week. My normal routine before start up. Defrag, disk clean, modem restart, and go. Only takes a couple minutes. But with your speeds, it might not be as critical. I need every kbps. I can get on satelite. tommie gorman Posted January 9, 2007 CID Share Posted January 9, 2007 but for the disc cleaner...maybe u could tell me what it does and what's the advantage of doing it?...huh?...i have a virus scanner...and i use others (virus scanners) about once a week...i scan for spyware (and such) daily It is like working in a dirty room. Reason for defragging is like files being sorted. If you put them back in order, it is easier to find which file you want. (in areal file cabinet. Disk cleanup is sort of like you can still eat on a dirty table for a month with out cleaning it up...but it does get a bit hard to see where you left the salt or pepper shaker. Things just run better if it is clean and organized. And it really only takes a few minutes, if you do it daily. A friend had 6.0 Roadrunner one time and could not speed test past 1.1. I asked him when he cleaned it last, he said it takes to long. So we set it to clean while we went to work. We stopped back by in 2 hrs. to see how it was going, it was not even 1/2 way done. So we went back on our break after lunch, and finally got defrag started. I did not bother to stop by after work, I knew it would still be running. If he did not have so much stuff on it, it might have been faster to just reformat it for him. Yes he was getting his speeds again. And yes he is still lazy, and whines about his speeds. But daily is only 2 or 3 minutes. Hope I answered your question tdawnaz. They both help speed up computer processes, since it does not have to work so hard to find things.
