Hey guys

till now i used to test my bandwidth using FireFox and used to get upload speed of around 101KB-105KB. yesterday i tested with IE and results are very much different when using IE. with IE maximum speed i'm getting is 70KB. so which one is correct?? and why so much difference?? can anyone explains it?? i had cleared the cache from both browsers before testing.

Thanks

It seems I'm much quicker on Firefox. While testing with IE, there seems to be a bit of a hangup at 98% to 99% completion. Hmmmmm?

JUST-, Thank you . Love the site. Funny enough, my cable guy told me about it while testing my line speed for issues. He said they all use it while on jobs.

I've been cleaning my "tracks" and such with the ZoneAlarm cache cleaner and the Microsoft anti spyware advanced tools. Please forgive my ignorance, but how else can I clean, and make sure the IE cache is clean. Firefox is not a problem.

Thanks again.

I'm paying for a 4 meg per sec. line, but my tests show an average speed of about 3000 k. With a 390-400 k download speed. This annoys me, and the cable "dude" says it all has to do with the amount of people on line (understood) and firewall, or a TV hooked to cable at the splitter. 400 k download is a world better than my old 9 k per sec dial up by miles.....but I'm getting greedy. :twisted: :twisted:

While I dont clam to know much about firefox I have to wonder if some of your tests with firefox are possibly cached results. While firefox seems faster test wise it may just be cached results. I would offer this. Restart your computer and suff a few sites you normally would not surf with firefox. Do the restart the computer and go to the same sites you just tried with firefox with ie and see if you notice a diffrence speed wise. While test my net is by far the best site to check your real speeds it never hurts to try a few other ideas to make sure your not getting funny results. Just a Idea you may want to try. Weclome to the forum and have a good one.........

I agree, I also see a difference. I tested Firefox 1.0.4 and I.E. SP1 (on XP PRO) and I.E. SP2 (on XP Media Center Edition) and advantage Firefox. I use tweak programs for I.E. that I got from www.speedguide.net and a tweak program for Firefox that I got from http://www.totalidea.com/freestuff4.htm. Web-browsing is much quicker with Firefox as well as internet downloads.

my favourite quote of all times is

"bandwidth is like money you can never get enough of it"

its sooo true specially me anyway.

in ie go to tools > internet propriaties and you will see the temp files and the cookies stuff there

try turning zone alarm off when u do the speed test

post ur speeds here guys

its easier to see how much you are off from one to the other

Just,
Thanks alot. I feel kind of foolish. I always clean out the cache with internet options (through control panel) I was wondering if that was what you meant. Now, is there a way to see how much is cached at a time ? In Firefox Under tools/options, you can delegate how much cache to use. And clear it all in one little page. Simple. For me anyway.
I'm still perplexed as to why firefox allows a much better throughput. Here is my work PC's speed test:

:::.. Download Stats ..:::

Connection is:: 4205 Kbps about 4.2 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB)

Download Speed is:: 513 kB/s

Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server1)

Test Time:: Fri Jun 3 14:29:25 EDT 2005

Bottom Line:: 75X faster than 56K 1MB download in 2 sec

Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 147.35 % faster than the average for host (ameritech.net)

Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-0TPEBKZ1N
This is not T1 (obviously) and it's being run through IE, on an 80 pc network.
What could be affecting my machine at home? (see above post) As stated before, I'm paying for 4 meg per. sec. And getting close to 3 meg on tests. Even worse if I run the smaller file test. Then as you notice, Firefox shows me screaming.

I'm concerned that perhaps my svchost or smss process may have been hijacked although I do not have the symptoms (blatent) like my pc shutting down or not turning on. I run AVG virus check and it never finds it, nor do I have any (obvious) spyware issues.

Thanks again
SteveH11
