rayray909: The main thing on running 2 of them I found was setting them so 1 doesn't make the other one run when it frees up some RAM.I never free as much RAM at a time as you did. From what I have read you should let your RAM run at about 2/3 full so your OS has faster access to whats stored in RAM memory.Testing might be an exception to this it isn't for dial-up but might be with a faster connection. You might try Cacheman by itself & with Freeram xp pro instead of MPower. MPower was developed for 9X& ME so it might not work as well for XP. Cacheman does a lot of things even if you don't use it to free RAM I manually set the settings I want in it instead of using the wizards in it.Did you use the older 5.11 or the newer 5.5? I'm still using the older one it works well so I'm not sure I want to try the new one but I might.

I saw this in the NDT test & decided to look up some information on it since it shows enabled in the test results. The information on disabling it is for XP.I have ME so I can't try this to see if it can be disabled or even if it should be.I not suggesting the tweak because I haven't been able to try it but if someone decides to post & let me know what your results were. Well, it used to be possible to disable it for applications using the MSMQ (Microsoft Message Queue Server). The magic registry key is documented here (look under

Thanks ROM-DOS I compared it with mine for ME Mostly you are using more on the default TTL than I had & your RWIN settings are larger. your is 25696 I was using 11680.I put a new one in at 26280 which is an even multiple of 1460 my MSS but close to the one you use.The other comparible settings were the same.I didn't get a speed increase on the test but web pages are some faster.

rayray909 : I have had Cacheman & MPower for a while they were freeware when I got them of course that can change if a software gets popular enough.I will see if I can find them as freeware for you.My MPower is version 1.2 & my Cacheman is version 5.11 so the newer ones may be shareware . Heres the link for Cacheman: http://www.docsdownloads.com/Tier1/cache_man.htm DL site http://www.docsdownloads.com/download/cachm511.zip Actual DL This is a Cacheman DL from its home site it is a newer version 5.5 it lists XP as a system it is for. There is a Cacheman XP at the site also but it is shareware so it does cost.Click the products to get Cacheman. http://www.outertech.com/index.php?_charisma_page=product&id=2 cacheman site version 5.5 MPower 1.2 seems to be for 9x/ME so I don't know if it would work in XP but here is a link just in case . http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,16880,00.asp MPower1.2 http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_download.asp?fid=16880&fileidx=1 Actual DL

rayray909: I'm suprised you are not already using Cacheman it does a lot of things RAM clear is just a small part of its features.I set it to report my RAM used on my taskbar.MPower reports CPU use on the Active window bar As well as clears RAM automatically. Most of these will also clear RAM anytime you click it in the taskbar.Unless it already has a lot available.
-
rayray909; I used it at one time it works OK.If you use Cacheman you need to syncronize the RAM they automatically clear or turn it off in Cacheman or they will drive each other crazy. Now I use MPower V 1.2 & Cacheman

ROM-DOS : I haven't said your results are fake .I even tried the tweaks in the link & did get a small increase from a couple of them.I wasn't able to get the compression part of the tweaks to work for my OS but thats probably because it ME & not XP.I hope you can figure out what settings are allowing you to get the fast speed.Could you post a current screenshot of your cablenut manual tweak screen I know its XP but I would like to see if I might change some of the simular settings.Since clearing cablenut returns your OS to normal 56K speeds it must be there or how the cablenut settings affect the other tweaks. To those that don't beleive ROM_DOS is getting the speed he is posting put in a link for a large DL say about a 100 MB.Maybe he will do it & post a screenshot if he feels like it.

Elite.Pete I'll let ROM_DOS defend his speed but thats 53.3 Kbps not kB/sec .Heres an example 53.3 Kbps = 6.51 kB/s =Or 0.05 Mbps = 0.01 MB/sec 1MB/sec=1019kB/s=8350Kbps. There is now a v.92 but a lot of ISP's don't support it.

I checked the link .LMAO

I still have 1.3 because I had some problems with1.4.Just search for updates then there is a dropdown where it says "See Cure #1 (Europe)" there is a little arrow .Just select one of the other sites to DL the update from the list.
-
ROM-DOS : You need a larger DL that one was 1.41MB it DLed in 1 second. So you need one a lot larger.Because I think it will show your speed at more than 1.41MB/sec.A lot faster than mine at 4.54kB/sec. 1.41MB/s = 1440.43kB/s which is 317 times faster than 4.54kB/s.

Dilatedpeoples28:ROM-DOS wasn't sure how to do this so I posted one in the topic below. http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=8656.msg85670#msg85670

ROM-DOS: I tried to disable everything again & no success.I either have no compression or V.42 It could even be my modem holding the setting in its chip .Making it unable to be changed. You asked what modem I have.It is a PCTEL HSP V.92 soft internal modem model 688T.Just the cheap kind that comes with a PC.I am going to put a screen shot of a DL in the other dial-up topic.
-
ROM-DOS: I'll get you a screenshot of the type DL I think some want to see.I think any dl will work as long as its not small.you don't even need to complete it.I use a software program Called MyVitalAgent to moniter my speed also It doesn't list XP as an OS spec the latest it lists is NT.But I have read some user comments that it will work in XP.If your interested. Here is a screen shot of a MS DL & MyVitalAgent.Let it DL for a little while to get past the burst the one I used was about 10Mb when you get the screen shot you can cancel the DL.I went to Microsoft downloads the DL I used was for an intelepoint mouse.

ROM-DOS : I'm putting in a screenshot because ME is a little different.I still have compression enabled right now as unchecking it slows me down so much.Same with the IPHeadercompression.I never have hardware compression enabled since I have a soft modem. The tweak article didn't say anything about disabling either at least not where you would do this in ME but I might give it a try.If you can't read the screen shot you can let me know.I used the modem properties window so I could show all 3 in 1 screen shot

Chad88TC : I couldn't read the Broadband report from the link.If you can catch VanBuren he's the best with the cablenut settings. Have you read the stickys & done the things in them?
-
ROM-DOS : I've looked over the modemhelp site before it has some useful info.I looked at the second link It didn't tell me how to enable MPPC in ME but I will see if I can find some more information on doing that.I have another modem site link that might be useful to you but I need to find it will post it when I do.Check this link: http://www.modem-help.com/

ROM-DOS :I have Windows ME the turn off the V.42 compression in the tweak turned off all of my compression & resulted in a slowdown. So Windows ME doesn't have Microsoft MPPC compression. I think the MS compression is whats responsible for your speed if you want to see do the opposite of the tweak & turn the V.42 compression back on.Then let me know if it slows you down. What did give me a small increase was setting SessionKeepAlive to 599.I'm also using a smaller RWIN but not as small as the tweak suggested. I'll post my modem string here It may not show you anything but it might. My modem is a PCTEL HSP688T : this is the string: From the registry:AT&FE0%N9&C1&D2&K6V1W3S0=0<cr> ATS7=60S30=0M1N3%C3&K4B0N1X4 Extra settings:S91=15S36=7S10=100S25=100N2

I have a Nokia 5125 with 1 year Tracfone service..This is fine for me but if you live on you cell phone it wouldn't be.one good thing about Tracfone if its lost or stolen only the minutes that are prepaid can be used so you can't get any extra charges.911 is still supposed to work even if you are out of minutes But I have never tested this.

helloimtim : I didn't find a lot of information more than was already posted.I did find out a couple of things though. If you let your ISP do the bonding (shotguning) at their server then they (at least some) charge you for each hour the second line is used.So you want to do the kind where you have 2 seperate accounts for dialup with the ISP & do the bonding with your PC.The ISP still has to support this but you are charged for the 2 accounts at the normal monthly cost.Heres another link with some info: http://www.tribuneindia.com/2001/20010101/login/main1.htm

moni33: Different Computers & motherboards may have a little different way to access the BIOS you need to find your PC's..You shouldn't even need a HD or OS installed to access your BIOS.If you can't access your BIOS then there is a problem with your motherboard.Or maybe your RAM but that is not likely. The BIOS is typically placed on a ROM chip that comes with the computer (it is often called a ROM BIOS). This ensures that the BIOS will always be available and will not be damaged by disk failures. It also makes it possible for a computer to boot itself.

Hold down Ctrl as soon as you turn the power on .This may gave a keyboard stuck error message & give you the option to go into your BIOS.If it does see what your start up order is make sure your main HD is first unless you normally boot from a floppy or cd. Do you have a start up floppy or EBD?

Here is a link from a post by peepnklown when it was discussed in the topic .There wasn't much information in the topic about actually connecting a shotgun setup.I'll see if I can find some more info helloimtim http://www.56k.com/reports/bonding.shtml
