  1. Hey, I was about as noobie as they come when I arrived. So the help came before I even arrived. I am just passing it on in my own style. And their are much more knowledgeable folks than myself. I am just there a lot to do what I can, or pass it on to someone else. It is all of the people here who fix things. I don't think there is anyone here who has not asked for help at one time or another. No one. Dlewis had a youngun? Where is my damned cigar?? And what was it?? I so hope it looks like it's mother.
  2. I would probably say samsung. I have had a few of their items. And they have been top notch. Of course just an opinion.
  3. I was taught well by shug. He told me once it was ok to be a joker. Nah, really it is how I believe life should be looked at. When they teach children in school what is the most important key. It had better be fun to keep their attention. So why not a little now and then? And I am usually on topic, really. And this is a learning site, isn't it?? And one of the best I might add. If it had not been for CA3LE, none of us would even be here. Thanks big guy. But dlewis is still the bigger spammer. If it were really a race, he would probably win. I have no comp at work. And there is no goal to reach, so what are we racing to? And what do I win
  4. So you really need no AV or antispy on it then. So it must be faster without those in the way then.
  5. Oh, I forgot where we were.
  6. It is like working in a dirty room. Reason for defragging is like files being sorted. If you put them back in order, it is easier to find which file you want. (in areal file cabinet. Disk cleanup is sort of like you can still eat on a dirty table for a month with out cleaning it up...but it does get a bit hard to see where you left the salt or pepper shaker. Things just run better if it is clean and organized. And it really only takes a few minutes, if you do it daily. A friend had 6.0 Roadrunner one time and could not speed test past 1.1. I asked him when he cleaned it last, he said it takes to long. So we set it to clean while we went to work. We stopped back by in 2 hrs. to see how it was going, it was not even 1/2 way done. So we went back on our break after lunch, and finally got defrag started. I did not bother to stop by after work, I knew it would still be running. If he did not have so much stuff on it, it might have been faster to just reformat it for him. Yes he was getting his speeds again. And yes he is still lazy, and whines about his speeds. But daily is only 2 or 3 minutes. Hope I answered your question tdawnaz. They both help speed up computer processes, since it does not have to work so hard to find things.
  7. Don't forget simi-dimpskin, the best way to check actual D/L speeds is when downloading something, it will show in the box. If you are not sure of what it means, in the top of the TMN browser they have a conversion calculator and table for you to use.
  8. simi-dimpskin it will be better than dial-up. But not better than anything else. Hoope you get a good install. Yes it is worth it.
  9. I was going to mention that, but I figured he got that with "12. Scan for viruses with your antivirus app, if you do not have one get one, AVG, Avast!, and Ewido are great." of his link. So I might as well also mention... "Achieve the Best Performance Out of Your Computer " http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-4257 "tweak guide" For putting in the TCP Optimizer. http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-1013
  10. Welcome to the forum qiang Mostly joshing. Of course it relieves tension also. But not quite like that.
  11. First of all welcome to the forum death2death Second of all. "5. Under your LAN connection - properties - general tab, uninstall all the protocols there that you do not need. You most likely only need "Client for Microsoft Networks" and "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)." If you share files on your home network, you also need "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks." It was done in XP. If you have that go to control panel*Classic View*Network and Internet Connections*Network Connections*right click etc... As far as "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks." that is in the control panel also. Hope that helped.
  12. Piece of crap, Would you take $900 for it.
  13. Did you try ccleaner and reboot?? Usually works for me. http://ccleaner.com/ If so did you also go into the issues and tools section. I also sometimes uninstall things with it.
  14. Try it, can't hurt to play a bit. Sometimes lowering them helps also. ( I know, weird.) And welcome to the forum quantumnanotec.
  15. Unless you are ROM-DOS. Or modem bond. But anyway, we truly do not want anyone to feel stupid. That is my job, please do not take it away. Any other questions, just feel free to post. They still let me do that once in a while. (at night I steal the key and post)
  16. I had no idea you had such a critter litter. I was merely mentioning what it takes to keep mine running on sat. I obviously do not get your speeds. Otherwise... but it would not hurt.
  17. Thats nuts and great, those speeds for those prices. You guys are very lucky. And from over seas no less. Welcome to the forum mikey1979
  18. That is usually right here in this forum. Don't be stranger now, invite your friends.
  19. That is probably true Dark06, all I have to compare by not living in your area was 500/50 for $59.95 a month. To me that is killer.
  20. That is the idea. They continually try to keep us down. That is why I just sit and wait for something better to come along. Someday.
  21. disk clean up is the registry cleaner, or ccleaner if you use it instead. I use disk cleanup mostly because it does not remove cookies on TMN. Where ccleaner does. It is part of XP. Should be next to defrag in start*all programs*accessories*system tools* next to defrag. Anyway 6 months on defrag? I use it before I even log on as soon a I get my daily AV updates and such. I only use ccleaner maybe once a week. My normal routine before start up. Defrag, disk clean, modem restart, and go. Only takes a couple minutes. But with your speeds, it might not be as critical. I need every kbps. I can get on satelite.
  22. That sounds thick and rich. Do you make that or buy it? Also welcome to the forum d34th4ng3l What are your advertised speeds?
  23. Nice speeds spedflamingo and welcome to the forum Who really gets the U/L they want. (OK, rare )
