If you are getting speeds like that, there is no reason for you to upgrade unless you want faster uploads and more stable ping times. Other than that, it's not worth the upgrade, esp if you go the 15mth contract route.

I would recommend posting a thread on http://www.dslreports.com/forum/sat asking if anyone else is getting slower speeds on the 4000. Maybe we'll find out if it's everyone, or just a few...
-
You can track 6000 speeds on the "current status" threads at http://www.dslreports.com/forum/sat. As well as 4000 and 3000 speeds. Not everyone is being capped. Some on the 4000 are still seeing "normal" speeds. Not everyone on the 6000 is capped either. (im just speculating they will) Ive just noticed certain threads where people on 6000s are saying their speeds are running at 500kbps. And some even saying it's always been that way. If uploads don't concern you, then there is no real reason for you to upgrade to 7000. I wouldn't do anything until the next gen (spaceway 3) comes out anyways.

direcway and vonage broadband phone service
ghostmaster replied to mtnsprfarm's topic in HughesNet (DIRECWAY)
Talk about thread resurection...lol Welcome to the Forum dwt1966!! Oh and Vonage doesn't work on Hughes/Dway at all. Try Netzero or Crystal Voice... -
Technology wise, the 7000 is definately an upgrade. It's self hosted, produces 200k+ uploads with a standard transmitter, and gets better/more stable ping times. That translates into faster secure sites and browsing. The only downside to the 7000 at all, is the fact that downloads are restricted to what you PAY for. (or less during extreme peak hours) (Notice I said they should have offered a FREE upgrade, if they wanted to oust the 4000 so bad) I never said they were only getting 500kbps on the 7000. I did say they were starting to run like that on the 6000s though, for some people. Now that im on a better transponder, I usually run this except for during heavy peak hours: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Download Connection is:: 1186 Kbps about 1.19 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Download Speed is:: 145 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (Server 2) Test Time:: 2006/09/30 - 2:42pm Bottom Line:: 21X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 7.06 sec Tested from a 2992 kB file and took 20.672 seconds to complete Download Diagnosis:: Looks Great : 13.49 % faster than the average for host (direcpc.com) D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-X6WSPVF4E User Agent:: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; InfoPath.1) [!] I'm still jealous of all the 4000 users who were getting 2500kbps and paying the same thing as me though.....grrrrr....grrrr....
-
Good luck with that. I think they might be pushing all 4000 users onto certain gateways. That's how they can effectively choke out the bandwidth...
-
It's starting to look like they are choking out the 4000s.... If they wanted to get rid of them so bad, they should have discontinued commissioning them, and offered a free upgrade to the DW7000 for all 4000 customers, instead of choking out their bandwidth.. Then again, maybe it's just paranoia and the speeds will start to come back up. Maybe they are working on your transponder to get it ready for HN7000s. Who knows...

jkandra, You should see a night and day difference between DSL and the DW4000. I am happy for you. Those are the right links Tommie.

P2P is working fine here. Never had problems with Limewire either. Are you using any kind of firewall on your system?

Wildblue changes FAP.. again
ghostmaster replied to andythedrummer's topic in Wildblue / Exceed / ViaSat
What P2P program are you using? This is the first i've heard them blocking P2P. -
All the ones on my map are a good few miles away. About 7 total. 6 were indecent liberties with a minor, and 1 rape.

phew... safe for now...

Actually, the 6000 was always advertised at 500Kbps down and 50Kbps up. And that was for Pro and Home. The 700/128 plan is ONLY for the DW7000 and now the HN7000s. You are very very very lucky to be getting 1.7 down Tommie, because people actually paying for those speeds with the HN7000S aren't getting them. Just don't be surprised if it stops all of a sudden. It might be nothing, but I would suspect at some point they would cap all of the modems to what plan the customer is on. If nothing else, to force an upgrade, or to preserve bandwidth. I don't know what the 4000 was advertised at, but I know the 6000 was 500down.
-
And I think they might be starting to do it on the 6000s. I've seen a couple of posts where people are only getting the advertised 500kbps at all times....
-
Is this at all times of the day? If they really are, it was to be expected at some point. Either that, or they are quietly sliding all of you onto the same gateways.
-
Im testing it for the library and it works great! Didn't even have to install drivers. It's much more refined than Beta2. Does vista use chipset drivers for general hardware instead of specific branded drivers like XP does? It seems to be a lot like linux in that aspect, where you only need drivers for certain NIC's and video adapters.

WRT54G is wired and wireless. I would try out a different router first. If that doesn't work, you might consider switching to the regular pro plan.
-
I use the Linksys WRT54G. Works like a charm right out of the box. Not always. With Dway/Hughes it can be anything at anytime.

It's not really a tweaking issue this time. But it might help. There are major problems on IA6. Everyone on that bird is suffering. Hor1 isn't doing much better on the HN7000s transponders either. The HN7000s was rushed to the market waaaayyyy to early...
-
Wildblue has it's own problem areas as well. Depending on your location, performance might not be any better than hughes....
-
"Supposedly", the Home plan is designed for ONE computer, while the Pro Plan is designed for multiple computers. It may be softcoded into the modem to allow more than one connection at a time on the Pro Plan.
-
I would go back to IA8. It might take a couple of months, but eventually all the sats will be upgraded... Same thing happend when the DW7000 came out....A lot of people weren't getting the faster uploads. Now that they have all the them upgraded, uploads are fine...

What system do you have now?

"Dude" isn't really a gender specific term anymore, but in anycase, im sorry mam....lol.... The caulk joke was from a comedy central show called Crank Yankers...( if nobody caught the reference ) I don't think you can upgrade to the DW7000 unless you get one off of Ebay. If you still can upgrade to one from Hughes, don't. You're better off waiting for the HN7000S to become fully operational on all sats. And if you do that, don't fall for the 49.99 + 15month contract. Just fork over the extra 150 bucks and buy the modem straight up. At least then, if it sucks, your only out 200 bucks instead of 15 months of Hell. When I upgraded to the DW7000, I was thrilled. The better uploads increased performance a lot for me. But it really depends upon which satellite your on. I would just hold tight for now, fix the water problem, and wait it out....
