The .98 dish will get you a better signal, and will give more cushion for rain fade. There are no performance gains by getting either one, unless you live on the "fringe" of your satellite's foot print. The .98 dish is also much harder to point, and must be right on the money. I say, save your money. Don't spend any until SpaceWay comes out....

ghostmaster replied to cak46's topic in RoadRunner (Time Warner Cable)

I want to steal it and take it home... We upgraded because of large digitization projects that are going on. We aren't in the habit of ordering serveral difference models, so our department (systems) got the same upgrades as the Center for Digital Projects. We also bought some new machines for regular staff. They cost a lot less. Pentium D 945 3.4GHz 2GB RAM DDR2 800MHz 80GB Hard Disk Radeon X1300 16X DVD-RW 19in DVI monitor... I would have been more than happy with that.....but I aint complaining....

<lumberg>Yeah I'm going to go ahead and ask you not to post those kind of speeds to us Hughes folks again. Yeah. And if you could just go ahead and post that somewhere else, that would be great. THANKS </lumberg> JK Congrats on the cable.....

4X1GB 2X2GB would have been nice, but harder to justify the price. Shoot it was hard enough convincing them we needed this..... We also got new laptops. Latitude D820 Intel Core 2 Duo 2Ghz 2GB DDR2 800mh(i think) Nvidia Quadro 110 60GB harddrive, and all extras like wireless and all that.... for about $2000 with discounts....
-
and for PC mark.... damn shame i don't have the full version, I think it could have stacked up better on total points...
-
Ok, so 3DMark06 kicked my a$$. The video card on this thing is pretty weak on it though. 3DMark03 was good though....

I spec'd them out and got the price quotes! With our educational discount, they were $2,079.31 per machine. Also came with 3 year, on-site, next day parts and labor, but im Dell certified so I can order and install the parts myself. With 4GB of ram and 2 DVI monitors, that is ridiculously low! Normal price was around $2400 with a 1 year warranty, so you would be looking at around $2700+ total for a regular consumer.

Well, we just got new rigs at work. They are blazing fast! Specs as follows... Dell Dimension 9200 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4ghz 4GB DDR2 533Mhz (Didn't offer the 800Mhz version ...) 16X DVDRW DVDROM NVidia Geforce 7900GS 256MB 2 17in DVI monitors 160GB Sata2 drives configured in normal SATA mode. Was running raid 0, but found no benefit... This bastard installed XP in about 10 - 12 minutes! Installed Vista RC1 X64 in 20minutes and scored a 5.1 on the performance rating, with the memory scoring the lowest. I'll run some performance benchmarks when I get a chance....

granpa is right.. If your transmitter is misaligned, and you fail XPOL, your modem will "decommission" itself, until you can get it to pass XPOL.
-
nope.... all controlled by the NOC. I recommend you downgrade to just the pro plan for now. You WILL NOT see that 1.5mbps consistently until they get all the birds on DVB-S2. Noone on the HN7000s is getting full speed on the Pro Plus plan.

It's not fair game if he has WEP setup, as that proves that he did not intend for someone else to get on it. Just use a combination of MAC filter and WPA Pre-Shared Key and you'll be fine...

The 4050n is still the toughest networkable small b & w printer you can buy. Rarely needs toner, and/or parts. HP makes the best printers out there. Darn shame their computers aren't as good as their printers.
-
At least your not paying 89.99/month for 1.0Mbps and 200Kbps upload, that um...you don't actually get during primetime. Well, not on the download anyways....
-
You just hit the hammer right on the head. The only difference is, the 7000S can handle DVB-S2, which is efficient enough that they can increase the capped speeds without costing more bandwidth. This is the same thing that happend when the 7000 came out. It was rushed to the market, and a lot more people signed on than what they had bandwidth for. They still havn't worked all the issues out with the 7000, and they already have the 7000S out less than a year later.

Sometimes the newest drivers can cause problems as well, at least I've noticed it with Nvidia and older cards. For example, with my card, if I use the 91.47 nvidia drivers, I can't play any video file, in any format, with any player or the whole computer will lock up. Right now im using the 84.** drivers. I would get rid of any drivers you have using the method voltageman suggested, and try using the original install disk first. If you still have the same problem, upgrade the drivers to the newest.
-
I wouldn't waste my money on that just yet. Wait until ALL of the sats are ready for it. Not to mention, all of the transponders. Until they get this crap sorted out, you won't see any improvement going from a DW7000.

dslreports.com has a new speed test lay out - so what
ghostmaster replied to just-'s topic in General Discussion
Say what you will about DSLreports.com, but it is the BEST resource for Satellite broadband information that you will find. I think their speed test sucks though, and Hughesnet was using it for a while. Uggg -
You don't have to. You can use DVD+R if you want.
