  1. A whole lot can mess up. First, The mylar is the plastic windows as said before my granpa. It IS necessary as it keeps corrosion away that could interfere with transmission. If it is the gray cover that your are talking about, it is not necessary. All it does is provides a home to wasps. What is your transmission error rate? Just post the data from http://192.168.0.1/fs/advanced/advanced.html. If touching the coax connector makes the problem disappear for a while, then you definately have a grounding problem. Static buildup with definately screw with your speeds and connection in general.
  2. I don't see why it shouldn't but I also don't see the need as you would have cell phone service along with the EVDO.
  3. Back to the topic at hand..... If EVDO on a home use only level can sustain consistent speeds (esp during peak hours), unlike Hughes (for the last few months), and there remains no FAP, I can't see a reason not to switch to EVDO, if your are using it for 1 computer without the router. With that being said, there are several users at http://www.dslreports.com/forum/sat that have switched, and are using the router with 2 or 3 computers, and have stated that performance is equal to Hughes, when your talking about raw download speeds. Not to mention the much lower latency makes it a feel much faster when browsing. Now does this mean that I will jump ship. Nope. Im not an early adopter, not to mention its not available in my area yet. However, I can see why someone would, and I'm glad they are getting what they pay for. I don't think that Sprint will invoke a FAP in the near future, as they are starting to shift their focus to this type of service. (Providing WIFI data access accross the country) They are spending a lot of money deploying WiMax so don't be surprised when you start seeing Hughes customers jumping to that in a few years........
  4. Not likely, they understand that it will take YEARS to get 50% of their current users to VISTA. It took forever for them to stop supporting 98, and they still support 2000 I believe.
  5. Most likely scenerios are: (For hardware problems anyways) Bad ODU(transmitter) Bad Modem Short in cable, or connectors somewhere Bad powersupply. The dish should have nothing to do with it.......
  6. You should gain some RSL, and have a lot less rain fade. What kind of problems are you having? Here is a .98m dish: http://www.apet.net/satphotos/RedBaron.htm
  7. Did you upgrade from XP, fresh install, or did it come with a new computer?
  8. Im pretty sure those were his DW4000 speeds. That is not uncommon, because they are trying to get rid of them. It's a sick way to do it, but thats Hughesnet for ya.....
  9. at 387, and restarted yesterday...
  10. Yep that's him. One thing I like about Randy, is that he is Honest and fair about his own product.....
  11. That chipset is often used in machines that don't have a PCI Express or AGP slot. Better check and make sure you've got one, otherwise your choices will be limited to regular old PCI cards.....
  12. You can probably ignore that, mine has been doing that consistently for almost a year, my system hasn't been affected by it......
  13. I think that's the company affiliated with "RandyVSATus" over at www.dslreports.com Could be wrong though..... .......
  14. No it can not be done, nor would you ever want to. The latency would cancel out any advantage to having DSL in the first place. Best thing to do is the quit giving Hughes your money, and enjoy your DSL.
  15. I think you need to call billing and find out about the charges, nobody here would be able to tell you why.
  16. If you have to clean 3 or 4 times a day, no matter what system you are on, then you have other issues my friend. 17. THe only thing I can say about the system, is be VERY careful with the RAM. That ASUS board is really picky about DDR2800. Make absolutely sure it is compatible, and supports the correct timing.
  18. LOL, I wonder if there is a smiley of a pot calling a kettle black..............
  19. Im if not mistaken, your service is using a "surfbeam" like modem, and in that case, it is NOT self hosted, and you should be albe to tweak it. With that being said, I have no idea how to do it on a MAC.
  20. Important: Some malware camouflage themselves as G-VGA.exe, particularly if they are located in c:windows or c:windowssystem32 folder. Thus check the G-VGA.exe process on your pc whether it is pest. We recommend Security Task Manager for verifying your computer's security. It is one of the Top Download Picks of 2005 of The Washington Post and PC World. from: http://www.file.net/process/g-vga.exe.html That was the only thing in the list that seemed suspect... So if you don't have a "GigaByte" brand motherboard, or video card, I might would be suspicious....
  21. Sounds like you're stuck on an overloaded transponder. If you do get the chance to switch sats, or transponders. Most likely it won't hurt.
  22. Never use the smart test with a sat connection. Always use the 2992KB file for downloads and the 579KB file for uploads to get accurate results.. I assume that price is in Austrailian currency?
  23. Are you using the Wild Blue proxy? (I think it's called the Wildblue optimizer) I don't know how to get it exactly, but you should be able to google it...
  24. There are certain beams and gateways on Wildblue that have had horrible uploads for quite some time. Upgrading your plan most likely will not help. Have you called Wildblue support? It could also be that you have a bad transmitter, or cable corrosion. I would call and see if you can get someone out to check the install, and tweak you dish.
  25. Music is leaked all the time, sometimes weeks before it is released. When the last Audioslave album came out, it was on the net weeks in advance. I personally am more concerned that someone is a fan of Fall Out Boy...... ghostmaster <----shudders Then again, I can understand why somone wouldn't want to pay for that crap, personally I wouldn't take it for free........
