This is pretty cheap and will work without upgrading anything else. And if you jump through all the hoops and get the mail in rebate, it's only $28.00. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814145067
  2. Yeah, with Newegg you know if there is a problem it will be taken care of quickly and fairly. But, for car stereos I deal with this company. http://www.crutchfield.com/ Been dealing with them since the mid '70s and never had a single problem with anything I've ordered from them.
  3. There is a master password for those. You can get the master password for your Dell by calling Dell Technical Support at (800)624-9896. Dell Technical Support will request the Service Tag and Express Service Code from the bottom of your Latitude. If you were not the original owner of the Latitude, Dell will transfer registration of the used Latitude from the original owner with only the Service Tag and Express Service Code from the tag on the laptop. To transfer the registration of a used Dell Latitude, fill out the Transfer of Ownership form on Dell's web site. Or....if you are handy with a screwdriver,,,, you can remove the bottom cover and locate the battery on the mobo and remove it for about 8 to 10 minutes and that will reset the password. The battery looks like a giant watch battery.
  4. I agree about Samsung branded quality. I have never had a problem with any Samsung product I own. The Samsung branded plasma set that is almost identical to my Akai HAS 3 cooling fans in it. The Akai brand SMPS board I got from an Akai service center was $545.00 but they generously gave me a 10% discount on it. I later discovered that the exact same board with the Samsung name on it was only $340.00 and the old board had a core value of $50.00. Live and learn...
  5. My Akai plasma set has no cooling fans. That's why the SMPS board failed. When it is on you can hold your hand 18 inches away from the screen and still feel the heat from it. It uses almost 600 watts of power when on. Some LCD models of the same size use less than 250 watts. BTW my next set will not be an Akai model. The failed board in mine had 5 headers on it for fans, all unused. It's been 2 years since I replaced the board and it is still working but it wouldn't surprise me at any time to turn it on and see nothing but the blinking error code on the red LED on it. Note for those who like the brand Samsung: This Akai I have was made by Samsung; the only thing Akai on it is the brand name.
  6. I would also recommend getting the extended protection plan with any LCD or plasma set. I didn't and it cost me almost $500.00 for a power supply board for my Akai plasma set just 3 months after the warranty expired on it. Would have been close to $800.00 if I hadn't installed it myself. My next set will be an LCD. Plasmas are power hogs and generate massive amounts of heat.
  7. I'll get excited when they can engineer enough cache in the CPU to hold everything needed doing away with the need for a hard drive or RAM. Imagine a CPU with a terabyte or more of level 2 cache. And drawing less that 1 watt of power.
  8. Run it and select do a scan only. Scroll down until you find this entry: F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=userinit.exe,wvcst.bat Place a tick in the box beside of this entry. Make sure your web browser IE or Firefox or whatever is closed. Scroll all the way to the bottom and hit fix selected. If a message box appears click ok. That may or may not solve your issue. There is a lot of stuff listed there that shouldn't be there. I would suggest that you follow Tommie's advice above and post the logfile on the hijackthis forum where there are people way more experienced than I am with it that will help you get your computer cleaned up.
  9. This may help with pinpointing what is causing that. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html Little freeware app called Hijackthis anti-spyware tool. When you run it select do a scan and save a logfile. When it finishes it will open a notepad window with the results. Copy the results from notepad and paste them in a post here. DO NOT attempt to fix anything. Just get the logfile then exit the program.
  10. I think if all people actually read EULAs and TOS agreements there would be few if any users for companies to exploit.
  11. Try this one. http://webcenter.ru/~tsw/Drivers_MM.htm Download the Realtek (Azalia) HDA ALC88x, ALC86x, ALC66x, ALC26x version A.195 and see if it works for you. It's the one with the yellow new icon beside of it.
  12. Obviously you have never read any of the ISP's TOSs. Basiclly they all say that the company can do anything at any time for any reason or even for no reason that they feel like doing and that you the user will like it. And they also explicitly state that they do not even have to provide the service at all but you are still required to pay for it as long as you have an account with them. Don't believe me? Go read the one that applies to you, that is, if you can ferret it out on your provider's website.
  13. I have 170 icons on my desktop. No room for a background scene.
  14. You could search on the computer manufacturer's website for info on what you have and they may have all the missing drivers too.
  15. Some people have had success using this uninstaller utility. Windows Installer Cleanup Utility http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=290301
  16. edit: The pain meds are strong today. Dunno why but I was thinking of the what programing language are you test. Carry on.
  17. Way too expensive. For that money I could build a box that's better for less than half the money and take a nice vacation on what's left. Well that is if you consider a weekend of binge drinking and bar hopping a vacation.
  18. Nice to see some of my old work still appreciated. I helped create that test 2 or 3 years ago. Surprisingly no one has gotten assembly yet.
  19. Before I would pay for a program, I would need to see it actually work on at least one or 2 files. I would suggest googling around and trying out various software until you find one that will let you recover some of the files with the demo version so you know it will work for you before you buy. I don't have personal experience with this but a friend highly recommends this. http://www.r-studio.com/#rstudio_NTFS Not sure if the demo lets you recover anything though. Good luck.
  20. I don't know of any freeware data recovery software that works. And even most of the commercial software doesn't work either. Most of the time the demo will "find" deleted files and you pay for the version that will recover them only to find that all you have is the fill name; not the usable file. There used to be an Unformat command in DOS. Not sure if that still works or not. I keep a complete copy of my entire hard drive on an external drive that I update at least once per month so I haven't had a need for data recovery software for a some time now.
  21. It has been my experience that most computers get broken when the user, for whatever reason, suspects that it has a virus on it and tries to "fix" it.
  22. Last Apple product I bought was an Apple IIe and I swore I would never buy anything Apple again. So far I have kept that promise.
  23. DOS 1.2 Changed my life but maybe not for the better....
  24. I play WoW with no problems on a machine that is less than that one is. Tell him to call Blizzard's tech support for help with HIS problem.
  25. Excuse number 3: - " I have no clue what happened. I was just sitting there reading my mail and all of a sudden it burst into flames."
