You may be seeing the same thing I experienced when I tried to upgrade a while back. I'll have to do some digging to find the topic. What ended up happened in my case... I reverted back to my old package. Although the new package was faster on the top end it had such a slow ramp up after the upgrade that I favored my old package. The new package required a new modem (16 channel). As with many previous cable internet speed upgrades over the years I was excited to upgrade, newer modem usually means great things. But that's just not at all what I observed with TestMy.net. Other tests, especially speedtest.net, will show higher results. They don't work like TestMy.net... they combine threads to achieve the highest possible speed. Good to know but it only shows part of the performance picture. For a multithread comparison within TMN you should try TestMy.net's multithread speed test - make sure you disable the option when you're done to test as you normally do. My conclusion was that the newest, "fastest" packages from Comcast we're not what I was expecting. Again, fast top end but really slow starting out. It's like having a Lamborghini that can only drive in 4th-6th gear... eventually it will win a LONG race but for most stuff it just didn't stack up to the slower package with less threads. The "slower" package jumps off the line like a Tesla. Instantly up to speed with little ramp up at all. By the time the 16 channel modem would ramp up my "slower" modem/package was already done with the race ...and the next one. Sometimes higher package speed doesn't equate to higher results on a single computer. It might just equate to more computers and devices that can be aggressively pulling resources without affecting each others speed as much. Personally, I favor my off the line performance more than the top end or being able to serve more devices. Especially with how bad it was in this case. I switched back and my results instantly fell back into line with the performance curve I expect. By the way, I'm still easily able to serve over 20 devices on my connection. That was the first time a cable upgrade disappointed me and needed to be switched back to previous settings. Hey... at least I saved money because I no longer needed a new modem and the "slower" package is cheaper. TestMy.net saved me money by showing me that I actually performed better on a cheaper package.

That would definitely not be a feature. I don't know what would cause that to happen for you and not for others. In your address bar when you see that page, does it say https://testmy.net or does it show a different address once it loads?

I think what's happened is a bug with the filters. It's on my list now so I'll make sure it gets taken care of this time around. I say “this time” because I'm actively building right now. Open CSV in a text editor or spreadsheet program. In spreadsheet you can convert the data to your own charts and manipulate the data in a number of useful ways that TestMy.net's website interface isn't able to do, yet.

Hi Mookie, Welcome! The host graph is tests logged from other users on your ISP. It won't really help prove your case, it's more for you to compare against. Show them your results at https://testmy.net/compID/80911138787 What speed are you paying for?

I don't think you should test that often on a regular basis, it's a waste of bandwidth. Personally I would only run an automatic test every 15 minutes for only a limited amount of time. If you need to do it over a longer period of time you should only test a few key times a day. Getting your speed 4 times a day over a long period of time should be sufficient in proving your point to your ISP. If you see a pattern where it's often lower at a specific time... that's when you want to run a more frequent test cycle, during that time period. To have it just always run, it's going to intermittently degrade your performance.

It depends on the quality of the stream you're trying to accomplish and the service you're using. Here's a video that may help with selecting bitrate on twitch. You don't need 40 Mbps upload speed to stream, you're just able get a higher bitrate if you have more than what you're rockin' right now.

Your account has a memory of your last server selection, when you're logged out TMN also has memory of your last setting... stored differently. See in your results, when you're logged in you can see your username in the result. On those results you also see a star standing for the Dallas TX locale. The others are testing against servers in Australia. While logged in visit the test mirrors and select au.testmy.net. The next version of TestMy.net has mechanisms built in to remember your settings regardless of whether you're logged in or even signed up. It will also track your IP address changes regardless of being signed up or not. Actually, it's already doing this it's just not enabled yet so when it's enabled it will be possible to track your old IP addresses over the past few years.

Looking at the code as if I were a web browser trying to optimize the data flow I noticed something... the way I'm hiding the data being loaded could easily be interpreted as something it can skip over. So I rewrote that little tiny portion of the method... now, I think a browser would be crazy to skip over it because it's part of the DOM. Even though it's hidden, the browser assumes that it may be called upon later on so it should always load that information now. You must have some kind of option enabled, extension or installed program that removes 'comments' from the code. It was being commented using common HTML comments <!-- -->. Hi Nick, Have you tried TestMy.net in your devices web browser? Using HTML5, server-side programming and native browser technology TMN is designed to work on all devices without additional software. Just visit testmy.net in your browser and depending on the device you may see the lite version or the desktop version. Both versions use the same resources. The lite version isn't a different program, it's just modified to conform to smaller screens. At the bottom of all the pages there is a link to toggle between versions. I often use the full version on my iPhone instead of the default lite version. Because I don't mind having to pinch and zoom around the page and would rather see all of the design elements in full form. But then the lite version has advantages too... like one handed operation. Re TestMy.net Automatic Speed Test Hi Dean, Just close it. If it's not running in your browser... it's not running. If you minimized it when you started find it and close it, or close your browser completely and re-open it. To save bandwidth you can specify the test size (force it to start right at the correct size), tell it to test less frequently or turn it on for only a certain number of cycles. The test was never intended to run constantly. I think that some people feel like you're supposed to run it all the time... I'm not here to waste your bandwidth, or my own. I have to pay for bandwidth too and TMN can burn through Terabytes in a single day. I encourage you to use it as much as you need but I also encourage you to only use it as much as you need. Right now you're able to pull results by any location. Within those results there's a ranking of the ISPs for the area queried. Maybe I need to make that say "Randomly generated data". It's noting on your computer, it's just fake, randomly generated data and contains nothing meaningful. When you do an upload test it generates random information, and then you upload the same random information back to my servers. When you do a download test, same thing except the data is just downloaded to your browser. As soon as the test is complete the test data is discarded from your cache so nothin remains. I don't get it, they were one of the ISPs that helped make my site popular in the first place. If you were to dig deep enough in my forum and others... Comcast techs used to refer people to TestMy.net. Their in home techs and telephone support. People used to start with, "Comcast phone support sent me here...", "I saw my install tech using TestMy.net when my service was installed", etc...) I had Comcast support techs tell me (well over a decade ago) that TestMy.net is not only their "go to" speed test, it's in their training manual. Then ookla and speedtest.net come out, giving ISPs a platform that not only works in their favor... There are still many techs that work for Comcast referring people to TestMy.net but not nearly as many. (Comcast is only one example) Not always the employee's fault. They're brainwashed into believing that any results outside of their network can't be trusted. It's not true. I've been testing Internet since 1996, long before ANY ISP had their own branded tests from ookla (or anyone else for that matter). My methodology is the same today as it was then and the same things apply today. My servers are extremely fast and hosted in the BEST places... and in real data centers where the websites you visit are hosted in. Data being served to you in much the same way as you'd download it from any source. The other tests are not made to benefit consumers. TestMy.net on the other hand was invented by a consumer. None of the ISPs really seem like me, anymore... but then they still send me emails asking if they can host a TMN speed test within their network. I tell them yes, but that the client will always have the choice to test against outside servers. And that I must retain full access to the server to ensure that none of the testing variables are altered. Funny... for some reason they never email back after that. Just silence. TestMy.net will always be a third party opinion, testing outside of the conditions your provider would like you to test under. They want you to test in a vacuum... I test your connection to the real places people host their websites. Which do you think is more realistic? In the end it's up to you who you want to trust. Your provider, who has a stake in your numbers and making you feel like you're getting what you're paying for. Or a guy in his basement who's been testing Internet speed unbiasedly for over two decades. Long before the providers realized they could just come up with their own testing methodology I had already tested hundreds of millions of connections. Food for thought, the founder of ookla was the CEO of Speakeasy... an ISP. Who do you think he designed his test to benefit. Hint, it's not the consumer. Too bad the majority of people have no idea and blindly accept the results. Looking at registrations again. Tons of people registered today, passed authentication and email verification. When you check the "I'm not a robot" box, make sure you give it time to check green in the box. It looks for the movements of your mouse before and after you click the box to verify that you're human. Google's collected a lot of information on how people mouse their mouse and they compare that to house you move yours. If the box isn't showing up or if it's still giving you issues please let me know.
