Hi Tommie , I got home and Pro. I cant find this in home Atuomated System recovery needs a blank floppy and the Original Xp Pro disk, it formats the hard drive then puts the original Xp O/S back on from the disk, then uses the floppy to find the backup of the shadow copy on a different partion , but you do need a partioned hard drive to do this , you initiate this recovery from the Xp pro disk , during the setup inspection , hit F2 when promted, to run automated system recovery , then you just walk away and come back in 20 mins , it done , but it is only as good as your last ASR back up , but then we all make regular back up's don't we This feature alone makes Pro worth the extra $$ to me , a Trojan ect , trash the O/S , WTF, and you can turn off the resource hog "Restore " and save some h/d space, also great if you get master h/d failure , fit a new h/d and use ASR back up from my second h/d to put it all back ,

From The horses ass , Microsoft , That's what Microsoft is now offering buyers of Windows XP Home Edition and Windows XP Media Center Edition. The company announced on Wednesday that it is adding five-year customer support for the operating systems, marking the first time that such extended service has been offered with a Microsoft consumer product. The "extended" support, which kicks in after April 2009, will bring the two products on par with Microsoft's Windows XP Professional for businesses. Microsoft previously reserved its five-year extended support feature to only enterprise-grade products.

The big advantage for me is Xp pro's automated system recovery wizard , just make a ASR back up on "D" drive , then trash the OS , back up and running in 20 mins with one mouse click ,I usualy go for lunch /coffee break and come back to the computer running just as it was b4, but it costs more than XP home , but not such a big diferance as it was way back when I was a lad ,

Thanks Reso...... , nice to know somebody apreciates me , I might know what a decent sports car is , but it's a bit like watching football on the TV, I might have watched the world cup , but that don't make me eligible to join the team My first Brit sportscar was a Triumph Spitfire Mk 1 , it was my key to the open road, , yeah I spent more time lying under it on the road repairing it , than I did driving it , I see Aston Martin (owned by Ford ) is lose making , and up for sale , my local dealer has 15 of them , no doubt on sale or return , to make Fords sales look good , have a look at http://www.bristolcars.co.uk/BristolFighter.htm a marque I had forgotten they sell about 10 cars a year ,

So what is dlbttime.dll,_rundllentry@16, in startup it's DLCFCATS?
Roco replied to ratchet's topic in General Discussion
Yeah it is part of the Dell printer software, unless you don't have a printer installed , then you may have a problem , as it is a start up entry , try draging it from start up, onto the desktop , reboot and check the printer out , it may not be needed, if it is needed drag it back into start up, -
Maybe I was wrong, some things never change , this story melted the heart of this Iceman , Yeah and I got a few of them T-Shirts also , all part of life's rich tapestry I guess , ROME, Italy (AP) -- It could be humanity's oldest story of doomed love. Archaeologists have unearthed two skeletons from the Neolithic period locked in a tender embrace and buried outside Mantua, just 25 miles south of Verona, the romantic city where Shakespeare set the star-crossed tale of "Romeo and Juliet."

I just been listing to a old 1964 track by Bob Dylan "Times they are a changing " His lyrics back then never made much sense to me , but now with Global warming , Oil wars , and political unrest , maybe the guy had a point to make back then , Come gather 'round people Wherever you roam And admit that the waters Around you have grown And accept it that soon You'll be drenched to the bone. If your time to you Is worth savin' Then you better start swimmin' Or you'll sink like a stone For the times they are a-changin'. Come writers and critics Who prophesize with your pen And keep your eyes wide The chance won't come again And don't speak too soon For the wheel's still in spin And there's no tellin' who That it's namin'. For the loser now Will be later to win For the times they are a-changin'. Come senators, congressmen Please heed the call Don't stand in the doorway Don't block up the hall For he that gets hurt Will be he who has stalled There's a battle outside And it is ragin'. It'll soon shake your windows And rattle your walls For the times they are a-changin'. Come mothers and fathers Throughout the land And don't criticize What you can't understand Your sons and your daughters Are beyond your command Your old road is Rapidly agin'. Please get out of the new one If you can't lend your hand For the times they are a-changin'. The line it is drawn The curse it is cast The slow one now Will later be fast As the present now Will later be past The order is Rapidly fadin'. And the first one now Will later be last For the times they are a-changin'.

Hi DeepVoice first things first , Welcome to the forum , and it's great to have a new member from the UK. I guess we do / have suffered from ADSL from BT, , and the famous "UP TO 8Mb sevice " the speed you have posted is unexceptable , as long as you are sure your computer is virus and trojan free , and meets the Min.spec for BB, then it is not your problem , you are paying good money for a sevice you clearly are not getting , your ISP (name ? ) can run tests without the engineer call out , I had frequent discon's and and slow speeds , they got me to run repeated attemps to connect to the BT hub , the Tech engineer at my ISP (Pipex.com ) could read the BT log file, and comfirmed my problem , they raised the issue with BT , and within the week it was solved, thanks "Just " for the link to the TMN speed test UK , I got 2Mb , I normaly get 1.9 Mb to TMN USA (sever 1 ) so not that much differance , and also thanks to FibreOptic for his explanation on ADSL UK style, I will study that more , I just did the BT, can you get ADSL test , LOL yes but only 1Mb and a BT engineer may have to call , (line length +age ) it's suprising the differance a year makes , coz thay told me a year ago I was good for 5Mb Pics of my Noise margin ect. WTF is this good ????? and my test to the BT hub note DeepVoice , the Min, speeds from BT , just to give you some food for thought , The speed test has completed on test server speedtester1.nat.bt.com for user 0208xxxxxxand you have downloaded a 1.7Mb file at a speed of 2393 kilo bits per second (Kbps), your service bandwidth will have been quoted to you in kilo bits per second. Your IP address isxxxxxxx your browser is reported as being Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 and is running on Windows XP. BT would regard the speed ranges shown below as normal service: For 250kbps End Users speeds between 50 - 250kbps. For 500kbps End Users speeds between 100 - 500kbps. For 1000kbps End Users speeds between 200 - 1000kbps. For 2000kbps End Users speeds between 400 - 2000kbps. You may now disconnect from the speed test account (click 'disconnect' in your internet connection window) and if you wish to regain normal access to the internet please re-connect to your ISP using your usual username and password. Please note that test results may vary according to varying traffic in the network. If you continue to experience slower throughput when logged in to your ISP, this may be due to a slow internet site or high traffic levels beyond the BT Wholesale Network. Please report this situation to your ISP's helpdesk.

Depends on the scanner make and connection type, if it's usb ,you stand a good chance of using it with Xp, I have never found win 95-Me drivers that work with Xp , but win 2000 drivers normally do work ok First port of call to the scanner makers home page -support , a lot of identical scanners were sold under different names ,

Right on that Tommie, maybe the UK is short , but remember I was born in the http://www.antiquemaps.com/uk/channel.htm and I toast the Queen of Britain as our " Duke" the Queen , OH lol what a crazy world this is , I hold a British passport , but was born in a independent protectorate, but cant claim citizenship there either ,and to cap it all I worked in Europe for a lot of my time , SO maybe that clears up the reason why I get confused to whom I really am . Thank' s "Just" for the atari comments , whatever Atari is ,I guess I should have PM'd him first b4,, messing with his Pic, I hope Voltageman see's it the same way , BTW. Aggr I still stand by my post , back of the queue another UK saying , "It ain't what you got , it's how you use it " in my opinion better than the French " all men are born equal " Back on Topic , I have about 20 pics saved from the old thread that got lost in the crash , I have pm'd tdawnaz , who is offline, b4 I email them , any one got an objection too me emailing them ? I will wait for Tdawnaz's reply anyway , edit: spelling

Hit them with the same email every day , if no luck, find a different address, just wear the ba***ards down, I did and finally got a tech by name, and he did the biz for me, he could not improve my speeds (line length and age ) but had the power to adjust my bill , , I found by being polite and keeping calm, made all the difference, so thanks goes to my ISP PIPEX UK , BTW he was impressed by TMN speed test and forum , :Lil: he may even be a member now ?
