  1. Here is a a utility that will allow you to check your modem stats on the fly....enjoy and let me know how it works for you. http://www.majorgeeks.com/Cable_Modem_Diagnostic_d5153.html It won't work if you are behind a router....the FAQ in the help section also has some very useful info!!
  2. Please don't forget to leave candy tidings right here -------------->> ______/ Trick or Treat
  3. I am not at all impressed with D-LINK support or the quality lately. I'm wondering if they wern't quietly bought out by Linksys .....
  4. You really can't go wrong with ASUS. They by far are one of the most popular boards and for good reason....SUPPORT. You can count on them quickly addressing issues that arise. I have a A8N-SLI D and I love it.

    CDRW disks

I know exactly what is happening here. CDRW requires that you use a special interface addon...most of the major software like NERO installs this automatically. If the PC you are taking them to does not have the driver addon you won't be able to access CDRW. Now the exact process is not well described by me here but I think you get the idea.
  6. If thats the worst thing that happens this Halloween life is grand.... Now back to the AVATAR thingy....I have a special Halloween night AVATAR that i will be using later...this is my pre Halloween AVATAR. I want to see some ppl IN COSTUME .....certainly there are lots of them out there that are not in use here... edited by Just-: you don't need to make 3 different post one after the other, just consolidating
  7. Actually Ryan you can if you put it in the dishwasher on the top rack. BUT the keyboard must be switch type, not membrane...membrane is very very bad. When I worked for Wyse Technologies we used to tell ppl to do that all the time....never had one damaged because of it...
  8. Wow....mine seems to be working now too.....that is just amazing....must been some type of R DOS attack or something.
  9. Su e you can say spade, afte all you a e using it to dig up your AVATA fo display he e. Don't most ghouls dig up thei Avata s using a spade? Unless of cou se its a giant AVATA in which case you would most ce tainly use a shovel.

  15. It's very common for providers to single out subs in blocks to test new technologies, speeds, whatever...for a period of time. You won't be notified and tier one support may not even know. There are reasons behind this..enjoy your speeds but don't be sad if they go back to what is normal for you after a short time. In time they will come back as the product is made available to everyone.
  16. I totally concur with you...but based on what I have seen with that industry they have gotten away with the tactic for years. Now if their user base up and revolted things would be different...but how can they...they are not on satellite internet by choice and these companies know this. They have a 100% captive audience...they can do as they please...when they please...what ya gonna do...go back to dialup?
  17. Ahhh yes...and I blv that Hughes is capping the older equipment in effort to force ppl to upgrade.....
  18. Ummm...something is not right about this...lets talk turkey. First of all who is the provider...and is it just possible they are trying to force you to modem swap. This was one the tactics used to "encourage" ppl to switch to newer modems because many resist until the bitter end.
  19. The purchased modem will not be faster. Speed is determined by the bin file as programmed by the provider. Signal issues that affect the performance of the providers modem will also have the same affect on the privately owned modem. Additionally there is no warranty for lightning damage through the mfr. If you have the providers modem you worry about nothing....if it dies, gets destroyed by lightning or surge its covered...plain and simple. The bottom line here is that if his provider gives the modem without charge he should take full advantage of it....if not...then purchasing a modem is just fine...but there is NO advantage to the consumer owning his modem if the company provides them for free...despite what popular forum myth may be...
  20. I know that Cox in most parts of the country does not, nor does Bright House Networks.. I'm sorry that your cable company charges...he should still check with his cable company to make sure...he may very well be surprised.
  21. Before you buy make sure your ISP charges for them...if not, get theirs...that way if it gets damaged or goes bad...they pay for it. Most cable co's do not charge for modems any more...and you will have no speed or reliabiliy advantage to owning your own.
