  1. the quickest way to determine if its the router or not is to bypass the router and connect your mac with a Cat5e cable directly to the modem if your still getting 5-6mbps then it is indeed not the router and their problem and they should fix it

  2. what settings are you referring to? there are several mac owners on here that can assist you with troubleshooting and other things i know a little about mac but would need quite a bit more info about your setup to be of any help

  3. Doing a Auto Speed Test for Upload only. Doesn't seem to want to work right for me.

    Setup:

I turn off Express, set it to every 15 mins 5 times at 29.2 Mb.

    Results:

When I start it uploads 265 Kb then 1.5 Mb and thats the end of the first test.

Why is it not uploading the 29.2 Mb?

Auto Download Test is working fine however, no problem there.

same thing happens to me but it stops at 2Mb tests it sounds like its using the smart test and not recognizing that your telling it a specific min size

  4. first off Welcome to testmy.net Denis.

looking at your history alot of your test results are pretty consistant there are a few slow ones in there though... could you tell us a little more about your connection to better assist you?

what are your advertised speeds? ( the speeds the isp says you should be getting )

what type of internet connection is it? ( dsl, cable, sat, 3G, 4G)

what OS are you running on your pc?

what router / modem do you have?

also i noticed your testing from your ipad so that means wifi

problems can also occur on wifi that are completely seperate from the actual internet connection itself.

  5. I got a question. It's getting closer to prime time hours here. its 5:30 PM about my time. My speed test from all sorts of dif sites are still coming back at 45Mbps or higher. But youtube still wont stream 720p videos smoothly. I have to pause it and let it buffer for a little bit. Is this normal?

same thing happens to me during prime time and it has absolutely nothing to do with yours or my connection... basically their backbone gets more saturated during primetime hours and the servers that host their HD content can't provide the data fast enough to how many customers they have

i can test here at 62Mbps and still not stream 720p from youtube

  6. If I was you. Get the authenticator, 6.50 for the key chain version, OR free application for cell phone. When I purchased the game that was the second thing I did. Hackers are some how getting ahold of LOTS of user names/passwords. Not happy with the way Blizzard is nurfing characters. The patching is silly. They are also nurfing gold drops. Fixing exploits that lets people farm TONS of gold.

At the moment, Kinda stuck which way to go. Seems like I have reached my limit with my monk. Not sure what to do. May start a new character and go again. Hope we get the chance to play together. See ya on the battlefields.

i have a couple level 60's thus far the monk seems to be one of the weaker characters atm kinda makes me sad i'm currently enjoying my wizard though and yeah as soon as i got hacked (my first ever time being hacked in a blizzard game) i setup the authenticator on my android phone and it hasn't happened since

Good discussion. On a related note, I'm looking for software that will do a good job of measuring hard drive speeds both in terms of read/write access times, but also transfer times. That is malware/spyware free of course & is either free to use or minimal cost. Any suggestions most appreciated. Thanks. :)

try DiskBench its free there are several places you can download it from it doesn't require an installer or anything its pretty basic but gives the features your looking for

  7. i have gotten hacked already luckily i was on when he hacked me so i promptly changed my password

however blizzard told me they could only restore my acc to the day before and it had been my day off so i made a lot of progress that day... all i really lost was 300k gold so i said screw it and just kept it the way it was

i'll add you for sure though

  8. YES ! I find myself getting more and more "can't wait" . At the same token at another office there's a T1 that is a fraction of the width , but much cleaner obviously more steady, I can deal with that.

    Id'e much rather have a dedicated 10/10 line then a 60/3 , no comparison.

screw that i want symmetrical 1Gbps i just don't want to move to chattenooga to get it

  9. Here is my Testmy.net Results

    6V3ALDd.png

and here is my Linespeed results

    1951437259.png

My ISP has also confirmed at their end that I am getting near 15Mbs down.

I have tried multiple browser downloads all with the same results, normally maxing out at 450kBs. (not p2p, torrents etc.)

Any ideas what could be limiting me to downloading at 450kBs. I thought in theory if I have a line speed of 11mbs that I should download at least 1mBs.

Trying to figure out what to do to fix this, if there actually is a problem.

    Thanks.

the main reason your seeing such a difference between the test in brisbane and testmy.net is because the tests here are hosted in the united states as are most of the downloads your probably attempting to download

the 450kb/s limit your running into is most definately that of peering between Australia and the US

  10. What of using ethernet cable (cat6?). Here's a irony (to me) this current computer gets about 350 KB/s through wifi. Yet a laptop I have that does support up to 1000mbps can get up to a meg on our wifi. As for the personal router I'd just buy a router and set it up? I will be downloading a lot of digtal games (from steam) - upwards of or more than 250 GB - on the current speed I get that'd take about 2 weeks - I'd like it (if possible) to take less time than that - though I'd think that'd be impossible short of Texas getting decent speeds throughout the entire state.

Cat6 is intended for speeds upwards of 1Gbps

Cat5e is perfectly fine for home use theres no way you'd be able to utilize Cat6 with the connection you currently have

infact you'd need an enterprise level connection such as the one hosting this testing site to even need Cat6 there are only a few places in the world that offer residential Gigabit connections

as far as different results with different computers that could be caused by a lot of things which we can discuss

your laptop probably has Gigabit LAN not a gigabit wifi connection it at most has a 450Mbps wireless N adapter but even still if your router is wireless G it will not connect at a rate higher then 54Mbps

    ~ Mark

  11. you could get your own wireless N router there are some relatively inexpensive one's out there

you probably wouldn't notice an increase in speed since wireless G supports up to 54Mbps even if you take off the 15-20% overhead you lose from it being wireless your still well above what you need for the connection you currently have

the only place you'd notice an increase in speed is on local file transfer's from one computer to another in your house
