  1. this thread will be moved to Help with Forum, but i got a database error so i couldnt do it... If any moderator or CA3LE move it, delete this post VanBuren
  2. Someone has to click at [applaud] for you to get more Karma, you cant do anything about it VanBuren
  3. Oh you was on Win 98se, that explains it, the TCP stack is not very good for broadband and also Norton take some resourses I have Norton Internet security 2005 and cant see any performance drop, but im on win XP pro. I bet speed will be back when you upgrade and install win XP. VanBuren
  4. Delete all tweaks like i said in my previous post, then run a new TCP dump from Web 100 it says your MSS is 1380 and that give you a MTU of 1420 lets see if you get more then that after deleting all the tweaks. When we know the MSS without tweaks i can make a custom cablenut file for you, just tell me what cap you have VanBuren
  5. yea thats some speed .... VanBuren
  6. if your cap is 3 Mbps and you get 2.9 i say its nothing more to do. You can increase RWIN even more and get good burstspeeds and better score on speedtests, but that wont help the true speed, it might even slow you down over high latency routes. VanBuren
  7. Did you unplug your router? http://www.broadbandreports.com/faq/2252 win xp has a bug with PPPoE quote "Q: Raising MTU from 1480 with WinXP, using *built in* PPPoE connection software. (#2252) A: As of 10/15/01, there is no way known to raise MTU in WinXP from 1480. This issue is seen only by WinXP users who are connecting with the built in PPPoE connection software. If you change to RASPPPoE, or use a router instead, your MTU should then default to 1492. RASPPPoE is popular, free, and less problematic than WinPoet (another choice). This small difference (12 bytes) in MTU is negligible however, and should cause no concern. Check back from time to time though for a "fix". VanBuren
  8. I dont know what MTU DW 6000 use, but my guess is 1500 and that you have forced your MTU to 1460 in the registry. If you have been using TCP optimizer, it change the MTU in your NIC (i dont know the registry key) and if you use cablenut it force the MSS to a certain value Mixing these two, and dont know what your doing can cause MTU conflicts. Did you do a registry backup when installing TCP optimizer? If so, restore registry also click delete cablenut tweaks + reboot now run this http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks copy result URL adress and paste it here so we can see it VanBuren
  9. hey Nuckapleez and welcome to the forum When you installed cablenut program, it install by default to C:ProgramCablenut so just unzip the vanburen_cablenut_settings.zip to that folder good luck VanBuren
  10. I suggest you use a ping value between 200 and 300 and see what works best for you, try 200 and raise the value to 230 and see if it goes any faster. As you probl understand its hard to find a good latency value to use by downloading several files until your out of bandwidth, but there is no other way to go beside just testing values. My experiance is that a value between 200 and 300 is optimal. I never heard of a ISP service before that defrag packets bigger then 995 byte, try cleaning up your registry, in TCP optimizer where you see MTU, delete the value you got there so the field is blank and click save. Also in cablenut program, click delete cablenut tweaks and click save to registry and reboot. Now all settings should be as windows default. run this analyzer and post result URL here so i can see it http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks here is some info regarding MTU http://www.dslreports.com/faq/7801 and here is some info befind calculating RWIN http://www.dslreports.com/faq/2024 quote "RWIN is determined mathematically. The required variables for the equation are Maximum Potential Speed (MPS) of the line, Maximum Segment Size (MSS) of the packet and Return Trip Time (RTT)(which most people measure with "ping" tests). Depending on the type of connection, a multiplier is usually applied to RTT to account for bad ping days. But generally the simple construction of the equation would be (MPS * Average Worst RTT)/8. The result is then converted to the nearest multiple of MSS." Edit: here is a example http://www.dslreports.com/faq/6181 quote"Example: MSS is 1460, RTTavg is 125ms, and advertised download speed is 1500kbps. 125 x 1.5 = 187.5 187.5 x 1500kbps = 281250 281250 divide by 8 = 35156 35156 divide by 1460 (MSS) = 24.07 Round up to next even number = 26 26 x 1460 = 37960 (Optimal RWIN)." hope this helps and happy holidays Fred VanBuren
  11. there is still kinda many manufactors that use 4/8 x AGP support if you look here i bet you find a card that suit you http://www.newegg.com/app/manufact.asp?catalog=48&DEPA=1 i suggest to use these filters Interface [AGP 8X/4X] Max price: [200] Keywords:[256-bit] if you dont like to spend 200 here is a good one for 135 bucks http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-133-106&depa=1 but if you have the money go for a Radeon 9800 Pro like this one for 198,50 bucks http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-142-009&depa=1 VanBuren
  12. very nice Gregorama, above your upload cap overseas thats sweet VanBuren
  13. Hay fastback and welcome to the forum Im not sure what you mean by 128 graphics range, do you already got a videocard? Performance will be best in that AGP slot, and 4x agp perform very well, its almost no diffrense compared to 8x agp VanBuren
  14. its not really 3 MB but very close 2992 KB, you find it as a direct link at download test page VanBuren
  15. hey bamatide and welcome to the forum thats real nice speed , what speed do you have on the 3 MB test? and what is your upload? VanBuren
  16. make sure you didnt typed it wrong........ i also have UT 2004 and its hard to see the diffrense between 8 and B also I (i) and l (L) VanBuren
  17. i missed it too, how will i manage VanBuren
  18. I have noticed the same thing, but since CA3LE changed download script to PHP its alot better then with the CGI. But still with alot of users testing im down to 2.6 Mbps and when its less ppl i get around 3.3 Mbps. VanBuren
  19. Cool, just zip it and click Additional Options... when you write your post, that allow you to Attach files to your post. Alot of tweak programs has those features too, DR.Tcp has MTU, TCP optimizer has also MTU, Cablenut has MSS thats MTU-40. My experiance is that there is no need to use those features if you have MTU detection enabled, its enabled by default in most OS. VanBuren
  20. I would test both of them, compare what adapter thats faster, this is not a matter of onboard or PCI, its a matter of how good the drivers work with the adapter. Make sure to use the latest drivers, grab em here www.realtek.com.tw I have Realtek 8169 10/100/1000 Mbps PCI adapter and it works great, i also have a 10/100 Mbps Realtek 8139 PCI adapter that also works great. VanBuren
  21. I tried that with Firefox, didnt change score for me hows the connection works now, did you change Default Send again? VanBuren
  22. im 30 and need a job, so i can get retired sometime School really sucks, i been working from when i was 19 to 25 then i decided to study HVAC engineering for 3 years and now i cant get a job, atleast not where i live VanBuren
  23. cool, i wish i know how to tweak Satelite better with cablenut then it would be complete for all types of internet connections, i can add the settings that dslr recommend and make a file from that but it seems that alot of ppl on DW use diffrent settings. Anyway if somone has some input what i should use to build a Sat file PM me. Sorry if this carried out off topic VanBuren
  24. I suggest to use the 3 MB test downstream and 1496 KB test upstream, to compare diffrent tweaks. a larger RWIN for example will give a larger burst and give a faster score at a speedtest, that dosent mean your true speed is faster. I suggest you stick to the latest file i posted here, the thing you can try to change is Default Send window, i set it to 16384 but you can try a larger eg 32768 good luck VanBuren
  25. from what i heard DW 6000 is not supposed to be tweaked, i suggest you use this file instead then, most of the values is set to windows default VanBuren
