He should still be able to post as a guest. Anyhow, where did he get the updates from? If he went through windows update, the graphic drivers are sure to be outdated. Windows update seems to keep a record of popular updates when it comes to video drivers. Plus, it's only the driver, not the software that directly supports it. He needs to go to Nvidia's homepage and get the latest software package for his card. Link here: [url=http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_81.94.html]NVIDIA

One thing which could quite possibly be the cause of your static is the volume controls. Try muting the CD Player & Line In options. (Pic Below) Those 2 settings have been known to cause hissing/static. Before you go out and get a new sound card, what drivers/application are you using? From the looks of your system tray, I'm assuming it's from Realtek as I have the same icon. Being that your sound is AC'97 6-Channel CODEC Compliant, and if you are going to continue to use Realtek's offering, you should get the application directly from them. New drivers were just released on 11/7 and they work great! That's for my setup which uses Realtek or Nvidia audio software. My motherboards' homepage offers drivers from Realtek and Nvidia, but the Realtek software is older now because of consistent releases from them and DFI not updating as often as needed. The latest drivers are here: Realtek AC'97 Audio CODECs (Pic of latest version number below. Is yours the same?) I've installed these very drivers on a system with a VIA AC'97 Codec Combo Driver - Enhanced Audio Controller and they didn't work well. The sound was distorted and produced static as you stated. Chipset specs are (North Bridge = VIA VT8377, South Bridge = VIA VT8235). If the latest version of Realtek's offering doesn't solve your problem, get the latest software from VIA Arena here: VIA Vinyl Audio driver (Direct Download Link). I was redirected to these drivers straight through your motherboard's homepage here: Mach Speed X-Caliber PT88AS. Drivers link will go to VIA Arena. I highly recommend this package because VIA's offering has a different software solution which has been tried & tested with VIA's 8237 South Bridge. It's the best option for you. Uninstall the previous software and reboot before using the latest version of either one of the apps above. If you've already been there, done that...disregard. By the way, are you using "VIA Hyperion Pro Version - 5.04A" or "VIA Hyperion 4 in 1 Version - 4.56v" chipset drivers?

i hit 11. somthing on verizon dsl is this possible?
organ_shifter replied to r0b's topic in Show off your speed
Welcome to the site r0b. Enjoy your stay. With Verizon DSL, not likely. With Verizon FIOS, piece of cake. As you stated, you tested with Verizon DSL. The test seems to be cached. Your User_Host displays aol.com. Are you testing with their software? AOL uses accelerators. That could be why your results returned so high. -
Specifically, what are the names of the games that crash you back to the desktop?

I'd hope that they've already taken it through rigorous tests before releasing it. Google has one of the best track records around, so I'm pretty confident that it'll perform up to it specs. I won't ever be on cam with anything close to 200 people though.

"Lavasoft Personal Firewall" is here...
organ_shifter replied to organ_shifter's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, they've partnered up for this venture. Being that Outpost is a great firewall in itself, Lavasoft should make it even better. You may be able to get the updated version free of charge. -
Google Talk users will be happy to know that the messenger is progressing nicely. It's just added video. The plug-in for Google Talk will enable users to hold video voice calls on a one-to-one basis or with groups as large as 200 people, as well as to share photos and applications with whoever's on the calls, according to Santa Cruz Networks. I truly believe that Lavasoft will leave its presence felt with this new firewall. Expecting a quality product from them is not far fetched at all. Ad-Aware SE Professional is fantastic for spyware/adware already, so coupling it with a firewall should give the end user a greater sense of protection. Partnership with Agnitum Lavasoft Personal Firewall, is targeted for small and medium-sized business organizations and home users, providing seamless and powerful protection for both. This firewall product comes with simple configuration, "tick in the box" options and powerful, easy to use controls. Coupled with Ad-Aware SE Plus or Ad-Aware SE Professional, it is a great help to keep the home PC and small office free from intrusive Internet worms, Trojan horses, hijackers, cyber thieves, online extortionists, and more. Anyone else been testing this out? It's a nice preview of what's to come from MS Office. The interface is user friendly and the new/updated features are a joy to use. The Microsoft Office 12.0 pre-Beta 1 offers many ease-of-use interface tweaks, such as a slider bar in the bottom of each window for zooming in and out of page views. We hope that tabbed toolbar browsing, a welcome feature within Web browsers such as Firefox, will make navigating tasks and documents easier. Each task-oriented toolbar will have only the tools you need, with visual galleries of attributes and suggested layout to eliminate guesswork. You'll be able to make changes to attributes such as font style and watch your document transform in real time. And rejoice if you've raged for eight years against Clippy. The dorky paper-clip cartoon is really dead; Office Assistant suggestions will no longer glibly interrupt your tasks. Unlike the late Clippy, a ghostly text-formatting toolbar hovers near your cursor; it fades or darkens in response to your mouse movements. Right-clicking a mouse will reveal the same task-specific menu choices as offered in the masthead banner. Those wanting to put photos in documents will enjoy Word's new image-editing skills, allowing you to crop, alter brightness and even convert images into sepia tones. We're glad that Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access will finally share similar interface features. Developers will get the freedom to add their own tabs, items to tabs and gallery items to Office 12.0; and companies can build their own toolbars from scratch, if needed. Old, familiar add-ins will also work in the new Office. Users of previous versions of Office will like that Office 12.0 files are backward compatible through Office 97. Word12 Pics:

If you want help with that, use what I've been using for years (before SlySoft took over). I'm region free, and it unprotects movies very well. Works great for me! AnyDVD is a driver, which unprotects DVD-Movies automatically in the background. This DVD appears unprotected and region code free for all applications and the Windows operating system as well. With AnyDVD's help, copy tools like CloneDVD, Pinnacle Instant Copy, InterVideo DVD-Copy, etc. are able to copy CSS protected Movies. With the help of AnyDVD you can watch movies with non matching region codes with every DVD Player Software you like! AnyDVD decrypts not just DVDs: AnyDVD allows you also to play, copy and rip protected Audio CDs! But AnyDVD does much more, of course. For example, it is possible to control the rotational speed of your DVD drive, so you can watch DVDs on your PC with far less noise! Go here: [url=http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html]AnyDVD

HHD is just the abbreviation of your Hard Drive. (C:), of course, is the letter of the drive. You can rename your drive to whatever you want though.

I've had that before. My system was sluggish from not being defragmented. Plus, I hadn't rebooted for several days. That may or may not be your problem, but you never know. It also happened when I had a WindowBlinds theme applied. The theme just didn't work correctly. Spyware affects so many different aspects of a system in today's time that it's hard to tell.

Go to the following reg keys and export them to a safe place (backup): [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplorer] [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesSystem] [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesActiveDesktop] [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionThemeManager] After that, download the following attached registry file. Unzip and run it. This should solve your problems. If not, restore the backups.

Microsoft is on the move again. This time with Live!
organ_shifter replied to organ_shifter's topic in General Discussion
Say, for instance, you don't have Word, Excel, or PowerPoint installed on you system, but, utilizing the web based set of tools gives you the ability create presentations and save them in those formats without actually having to install these programs. -

No arguments there at all. It's without a doubt that we (the consumers) keep getting the same recycled concepts time and time again. Although, there are lots of programs out now which contain all the potential in the world to bring on new, innovative ideas. Sadly, no one seems to be ready to step up. -

Now it's back new and improved. I truly hope you don't think that MS will be using the same exact methods as were used 40 years ago. It's going to be a winning idea and businesses all over the globe will be giving this a try, as well as home users. -
