  1. Kilroy44, when you deleted the line from your boot.ini file, you may have selected the wrong one. That's why you get the Windows Default option listed. Mine looks like this: Notice that the "default" line has "partition(2)" which tells the system to look for two partitions. [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect Under [operating systems], the lines that start with "multi" are the os's that you have to choose from. The first line is the most recent os that was installed. The second line is the os that you were using before. I'm assuming that you deleted the second "multi" line thinking that it would be the last os installed. This is what it should look like in order for you to go straight into windows without the selection menu: Notice that the "default" line has been changed to partition(1) and the first "multi" line was deleted. [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect I'm pretty sure about this, but backup your file as usual. You can copy & paste the boot information directly above this.
  2. Yep, the news archive section is great. Nah, the female android isn't real, but the technology is amazing! Very welcome. I love posting news. I wasn't sure at first myself. Just imagine walking into an office for an appointment or something, and after signing in, you have a seat. The android has been placed in one of the lobby chairs across from you, but, in your eyes, it's just another person waiting to be seen. I can guarantee that if you heard a voice in real time (spoken from another room, but emitted from the droid), "Hi there. Do I know you from somewhere?", you would look up and respond without realizing that you're talking to an android. Like the article said, the hoax would only last for about 5-10 seconds, but in a controlled situation, possibly up to 10 minutes.
  3. Have you read the News Archive lately? Lots of good stuff in there!
  4. If you are not into beta testing products that you are to expect to have flaws/bugs, then waiting is the best thing to do. This release is not designed to be an everyday system or perform your most important work load. It's supposed to be tested, commented on, and suggestions are to be made. Vista is one of the most innovative products of this decade. Don't ya just love it?
  5. Yep, that is a known application associated with lots of torrent clients. Anytime you run it, that program/process will run. At least with Bit Tornado. It would be best to give it full access (in most cases).
  6. Pitnull481, you click on Full Test from the choices on the left. You may have to register. Here are my results. Overall score is ok, but certain areas of the test could be better (like video).
  7. One ISO is 2.41GB and the other is 1.73GB. I can't find anyone that has converted the dvd version/size into multiple ISOs yet. If so, I could do a fresh install from boot and insert the appropriate disc when needed. Is there an option somewhere in Nero that will seperate it for me? I don't know what files should go where or I'd create multiple ISOs myself.
  8. I am definitely a fan of all MS's products. I'm not using IE7 yet because I don't have SP2 installed. My torrents suffer too much with it. I'm currently trying to use the whole thing...Vista w/IE7. Just need the dvd burner.

  10. Welcome to the site Desolator. Enjoy your stay. Yes, this is the next OS scheduled after WinXP. It's just the beta and lots of stuff isn't included yet. It won't be released until the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2006. This is great, but the finished product will be far better.
  11. Yeah, I guess I could do that with the 32Bit version, but the 64Bit version will only allow me to view the data on the disc. It won't autorun or execute anything because of the 64Bit code. When I try to start the autorun, I get this: EDIT: Wonder if I can start it if I boot into XP 64Bit Pro. I don't think any virtual drives will work there though. Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools are not ready yet.
  12. Gotta get myself a DVD burner. I couldn't find instructions on how to seperate the content on the dvd into sections so it can be burned on multiple cd-r's. Anyone familiar with this process? Hard to believe that you can't try this out without the absolute need of a dvd burner. I need one anyway, but dang. Guess I'll get one today or tomorrow.
  13. Alright, I've finished my personal business for the day. It's time to format and install the 64Bit version. I'll report back as soon as possible. Vista and I are about to get up close and personal! This will be an all nighter!!
  14. I knew it!! The world needs IE7. Can you imagine having to surf with 3rd party browsers only. That would suck as bad as FF does.
  15. Maxthon is built on the old engine that we use now. I can't wait to test speeds on this new browser and tweak the settings. I don't plan to use Vista as my main OS permanently, but it's what I'll be using for the next few weeks or so (almost full time). Not to mention that this beta might be as stable as ever. Technology would be no fun if it were to always play by the rules. RC1's and so forth of new products are very much needed to keep developers/consumers on their toes. No time like the present to start getting use to what the next 10 years of computing will be like.
  16. I grabbed the 32Bit version first, but I'm going to hold up on installing it. The 64Bit version is almost finished, so I'm going to install that one instead. I just want to see what the differences are between the two being that the 64Bit version is only 1.8gigs in comparison. From what I'm hearing, the massive size in the 32Bit version is largely due to the extensive driver support. There's not a lot of 64Bit drivers out there yet, so the main difference could be just that.
  17. You will have to burn it to a dvd-r or mount it with alcohol 120%. Burning it would be the better choice being that you will need to install it from scratch. I don't have a dvd burner myself, so I'll have to figure out how to turn the dvd version into a multiple cd-r version. It's not scheduled until the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2006 (I think I got that right ). Originally, it wasn't scheduled until 2007, but MS removed alot of stuff that will be included in a service pack or something. Yep, it's the OS formerly know as Longhorn. Kinda like the Artist formerly known as Prince.
  18. Yeah, same here. The beta1 of Vista is enormous (2.4gigs). Unfortunately, I couldn't install IE7 on my system because of the SP2 thing.
  19. I haven't really tried to get Vista yet, but IE7 won't have a public beta (according to MS). I'm upset about that.
  20. wz2309, when this OS finally gets released, computing, as we know it today, will change forever. Only Microsoft is able to bring us a nextgen operating system at it's finest. Hats off to "Big Money Bill" and staff (The Dream Team of Technology). They're bringing us the total package. Consumers that don't really care for MS will be sitting in their computer chairs looking on in astonishment.
  21. Yep, it sure did. Looks pretty good. Screenshots Microsoft Presspass Announcement Vista Fact Sheet
  22. Why not just keep what you all have (those of you that have been victimized ) and enable automatic updates? Set it to notify you before downloading or installing any updates. You will still have the option of picking what updates you want and viewing the information on them. You will have to go to Windows Update first and allow it to check for updates. It will prompt you to install the latest version of V6 inorder to use the service. Once installed, if any updates are available, auto update will give you access.
  23. Well, you can still get them if you have automatic updates turned on or from the download center. "Windows Update" is just a no-no, unless you are legit. You had to know that good ol' Billy boy and the dream team wouldn't hang you out to dry. :haha:
  24. I didn't go through with it. I was expecting he/she to have responded back by now, but no. Under msconfig, I didn't apply the settings. I'd just like to know where you have to go to set a specific amount. Adding that line doesn't tell me if I've really allocated additional ram or not. I don't like fooling around with unnecessary stuff if I'm not 100% sure or not of what it does. I hope he/she comes back and elaborates further.
  25. Where did you go to assign a specific amount of ram? I went through the steps you suggested, but I never got to that part as you didn't explain any further.. My NIC's IRQ really is 22, but after typing it in, what's next? How did you allocate a desired number?
