Google Earth is an awesome piece of software!

Thxz cappy. That looks alot better now. I highlighted the button that needs to be enabled in order to get clear pictures. The pic in the post is changed also. -
If you are trying to format the drive, I assume you are preparing to do a fresh install. If that is the case, you would come out alot better if you allow the installation to do it for you. Just pick the drive, and select the the type of partition you want. If you just want to format the long way, sometimes using this command works: format c: /s

Google Earth is an awesome piece of software!

I checked it out after reading you post last night and, I must say, it's impressive all the same. Google always does a good job on it's products. The satellite pics from the second link were interesting also. -
You need this program to run the PCMark05 properly. It's not an old version of Windows Media Player, it's the encoding tool that WMP uses. It's called Windows Media Encoder 9. It won't change the player at all. get it here: Windows Media Encoder 9 Series

Google Earth is an awesome piece of software!

When I used it earlier, the servers were so overloaded that it was taking awhile to render the terrain through the stream method that google uses. I guess they didn't think the program would circulate as fast as it did. This bandwidth issue should have been thought about in advance. -

Nope, I didn't give any info to download it, but I think I did fill in some information to get it registered. Damn, I can't remember. It might work if you have a gmail account. Not sure though. Let me know if you want one. -

Yeah, Keyhole was pretty tight, but this is unbelievable. I think that, as time goes on, there will be several add-ons that'll allow for universal viewing. I hope so, at least. -

Yep, I replaced it and it's still not working. I thought the server might need time to process the file, but it's still not downloading. I'm in the process of setting it up for download on my ftp. I'm going to take the attachment down. -

I'm glad that you are happy with your scores, but how can you be proud? Just so you don't get it twisted, AMD processors are way faster than Intel's garbage. Just becuase you beat my score, which came from a system with low budget, high latency memory and a way out of date video card doesn't change the fact the AMD holds the throne of the fastest processors on the planet. I downloaded WME9 again and uninstalled the current version. After I reinstalled and rebooted, everything went ok. I thought I would do better also. I'm going to tweak a little more and test again.

I kept getting the message that Windows Media Encoder 9 would be required in order for the program to run properly, but I went into Add&Remove and saw that both programs were there, so I ran the tests.

I remember using Keyhole's earth viewer, but it wasn't updated to this extent. Google bought them out and the software is unbelievable. This is the free version. The plus & pro version is also available for a fee. I've had Nasa's WorldWind installed for several months now and only used it a few times as it didn't really impress me all that much, but this offering by google surpasses what I thought it would be able to do. Keyhole was even better than Nasa's WorldWind.

Nice scores everybody...any more results? Curious to see what the new cards on everyday machines can do.

why do i get this error message when trying to post??
organ_shifter replied to Buzz's topic in General Discussion
I went back to an older post that I'd made with an attached picture and copied the picture to my desktop. Reason being is that I was planning on posting the picture in another thread as additional help for a member as the subject had come up again. Well, as we all know, every time that you post a pic, it's stored in the space allocated by the server. Well, if the older picture is named "everest_1.jpg", I won't be able to post another picture/file of any kind with that exact same name/extension combination. That's why you got the error. The attachment can have the same name, but not the same name & extension together. (name = everest_1 . jpg <---extension) There are thousands of users here, so you are definitely going to come across attachments with the same name. In this case, you obviously did. -
Microsoft Takes On BitTorrent Iain Thomson, VNUnet.com Microsoft has published a research paper outlining new file-sharing technology similar to that used by BitTorrent. Code-named Avalanche, the software uses a new technique called "network coding," which breaks data into small, easily transferable packets to accelerate downloading, but includes details on all the other data in the file. This allows the file to be reconstructed from all available packets in any order, not just sequentially as with current systems. Full story here: Microsoft Takes On BitTorrent

You would have to upgrade your motherboard to use that card as SLI technology is dual graphics cards on 1 board.

That's around the area of a 6Mbps download package. Depending on the server, you can get even closer to 700KBps. The initial burst will sometimes be 1Mbps or higher, but after your download is at least halfway finished, your speed will have settled down to actual line speed. I know you turned off the google accelerator, but it could have cached results of the test on the hard drive somewhere. I'm not sure as I don't use it, but if it's job is to accelerate browsing, It could have it's own temp folder for caching pages for faster loading. It may not use Windows temporary internet folder.
-
For some reason you are still getting cached tests. Comcast isn't pumping out speeds like that for home use.

Mabey the same ISP, same area, same work being done in the neighborhood. I'm just guessing as you didn't give too much detail.
