need help with bittornado configuration
organ_shifter replied to bshater's topic in General Discussion
I would be lucky if I got 30 kB/s. I did see closer to 70 kB/s sometimes, but that still sucked compared to what I used to get. SP2 is ok. Then I thought, I have a hardware firewall along with Kaspersky Personal Pro, plus the normal adware/spyware remover, why not uninstall SP2 since I'm already well protected? Once I did that, my speeds returned to normal. If you have it installed, you might want to beef up your security, and then remove it. It's not 100% mandatory right now. Plus, it seems to be aimed at the novice users that can't really protect themselves on the net. A person that is more technically advanced with their system probably doesn't run it anyhow. Without SP2: -

Torrent technology is based on seeds. You can only download as fast as the person's upload connection. If the torrent is not well seeded, you can't expect much speed wise. If you have service pack 2 installed, your downloads will suffer (even with the connection patch). With SP2 installed and patched up, I would get an extremely low connection total, and my speeds were terrible. After removing it, my speeds went back up. These are snaps of my settings that I get great speeds with (562 kB/s before -

Google site 'used by drug gang'
organ_shifter replied to organ_shifter's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, what a shame. You're right though, it was bound to happen sooner or later. -
Google site 'used by drug gang' Ten people have been arrested in Brazil after authorities discovered them allegedly using Google's online community site, Orkut, to sell drugs. "We discovered the drug ring first via authorised phone tapping, and later the investigation included monitoring of their activities on the internet," an officer at the Drugs Enforcement Service in Niteroi, near Rio de Janeiro, told the Reuters news agency. Orkut, Google's popular South American community site, has recently been monitored by national authorities to identify and incriminate a drug gang that was using the service to organize a drugs distribution network. Google promptly proceeded to assist the authorities in their investigations as soon as it was notified of what was going on. Launched in 2004, Orkut is an invitation-only network of contacts for live chat, and apparently over half of its 7 million users are from Brazil. The community, coded by a Turkish software engineer, operated by the US-borne Google in South America, and used by Brazilian smugglers to sell marijuana and ecstasy, is a beautiful example of how modern communication technologies can span bridges of time and prejudice to bring different people together under the promise of increased wealth and criminal activity. Get RR Tomorrow Morning!!!!!!!!
organ_shifter replied to wyantm06's topic in RoadRunner (Time Warner Cable)
No, your modem can function properly at 15 dBmV through -15 dBmV. Any numbers in between that margin are fine. If you get over 15 dBmV or below -15 dBmV, you are having downstream power level issues. 8 is a good reading. -
Well, MPEG2 is what dvd's use, so that would be the best quality overall, but to get that type of quality, the file would have to be the same size of a dvd movie (4.5 - 8GB), and the exact same settings would have to be used. You wouldn't be able to get the same quality if you used MPEG2 and changed the bit rate or something. The substitute for dvd quality would be a very well encoded .AVI file. You will lose minimal quality, but the file size would be small enough to fit on a standard 700MB CD-R. Xvid or Divx would be the best choice for .AVI files. SVCD's VCD's are ok, but the quality is not that good. Those formats are a poor substitutes for dvd. I don't recommend encoding in that format at all. I choose .AVI as the best format.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2006 (Beta) 6 is out! (News)
organ_shifter replied to organ_shifter's topic in General Discussion
Azag, yes you can edit the list of servers. I'm not 100% sure about "updates_x", but I don't see them taking away something so helpful. It may be the standard now because I have it set to every hour, and an update seems to always be there. -
Ohhh ok. Thxz PHP. Disregard...

Not meaning to get off-topic, but is this true? If so, then I apologize? I've posted many articles not knowing that it wasn't cool. I just thought I was turning people on to different news that hadn't been posted in the "News Archive". My bad...

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2006 (Beta) 6 is out! (News)
organ_shifter replied to organ_shifter's topic in General Discussion
I set mine up to run after I'm asleep. I awake to the results. It's set to run at 5:00am, and the duration time in the results is normally 5:51am - 6:00am. Kaspersky is known to be slow in scanning, but it doesn't miss. I guess that's why it's the number one anti-virus program on the market (protection wise, not commercially). -
Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2006 (Beta) 6 is out! (News)
organ_shifter replied to organ_shifter's topic in General Discussion
It always gives very long scan time estimates, but it finishes way faster than what it tells me. If it spends more time than expected on certain files, the time goes up. Once it completes those files as planned, and on schedule, the time will drop little by little until the estimate is more exact. -

organ_shifter replied to organ_shifter's topic in General Discussion
I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2006 running right now. The beta comes with a license that's good until November. I uninstalled F-Secure for the moment, but you know that I got it close by. After November, I'm going back to F-Secure if I don't get Kaspersky straight (you know what I mean .s1 ). As for right now though, Kaspersky Internet Security 2006 is nice. -

I've installed the KAV 2006 and it's great. Keep in mind that it's beta, so bugs are bound to be present, but most have been corrected in the latest release. One thing that I did notice is that when I installed KAV 2006, I had to open the program, click on the settings button (top right), select Network Settings (bottom left), click the Port Settings button on the right, and uncheck General HTTP Port 80. Reason being is that it was protecting that port and I needed it. -
Damn...haven't seen a post from you in a good while. Welcome back.

".cas-16787" What isp is that? What's their homepage?

You keep testing like that, you'll be number 1 on the downloads (currently held by rayray909 @ 26690 Kbps) and number 2 on the uploads (currently held by VanBuren @ 5349 Kbps).
-
I think there is a hidden upload speed test with a bigger test file. I'm sure someone has the link to it. That could give you better accuracy (upload wise). The download seems fine.
