  1. Considering the size and popularity of this website and global use, I'd say there's always someone testing.
  2. Eh, lucky me. If I take a look at what I scored at several tests, then there's something really obvious. I score higher with a larger test (12 MB vs 3 MB). Must be the ping. If you had a 20 MB test for example, it would be even closer to 500 KB/s, cuz that's my real speed atm. Be envious of my upload.
  3. That didn't work out so well. Edit: now it works. What the hell was that?
  4. Yeah, I noticed that in Halo 1 high FPS wasn't required to win. I could play along just fine on 10 fps. Later I found out that I had maxed out my AA & AF settings, and forgot to set them back. For games like quake3 you really want a smooth framerate, otherwise your pace slows down, and you die more often. Also the physics are better at about 125 fps. Strange but true.
  5. The human eye can handle up to 200 fps, possibly more. Don't underestimate our body... I lost the link to the article tho.
  6. As far as I know, the limit for the package my dad pays for has always been 50 GB. It's just a whole lot easier to reach after the upgrades.
  7. Is there a program that changes the background every start-up? I have so many I want to see as my background, and I can make more every day. SO much to take screenshots of in quake3.
  8. Constant upload/download really adds to a lot of bandwitdh. Chello thinks that more than 50 GB per month is abusing the service, but thanks to the upgrade it's now possible to get a usage of 51.5 GB per day (the full 24 hours). I hope they will set the limit higher, cuz I don't want to get kicked off for using so much bandwidth that Chello mails my dad and caps us at 48 Kbps down and up. Rarely, just so very rarely, high speed is bad for your health.
  9. 4000/1024 advertised normal speed: 4100/1026 Testmy.net speeds are lower, because of the ping (takes a while to get to top speed), otherwise speed would be at 100% here too.
  10. About 4100 Kbps down and 1026 Kbps up. Ha.
  11. Same thing as in Win98: Cablenut with VanBuren's custom files. Good luck and don't you dare go faster than me.
  12. Nope, not possible. Btw, there isn't much graphical difference between 9.0 and 8.1, but 8.1 is faster because of the lower requirements. You should be happy with 60 fps. I doubt I'd get more than 10 with this rig. I have no idea what's wrong with it.
  13. That's because the server is down when he's sleeping. He can't sleep with his computer on, because of the noise.
  14. Yup, in fact I go at slightly above my caps. Down is supposed to be at ~488 KB/s, and Sygate shows a steady 502-505 KB/s. Upload at 125 KB/s, and I've seen it go 128 The only reason testmy.net shows a slower speed is because of my ping to here. In the morning it jumps to top speed very fast, but later at night it takes longer, lowering results.
  15. It's nice, but in my case it won't sustain.
  16. My guess is that someone hopped onto your node, and the excess bandwidth is now shared between you two, or more than just two. I don't think you'll get higher speed again, other than scaring everyone else from the node you're on.
  17. That tracert is weird. There was a hop added, yet the rest of the tracert is the same. I'm afraid nothing will improve.
  18. 56k will always be slower. In fact, there have been tests completed with 4 Kbps, or 0.5 KB/s. You're not the slowest. If you have a 1500 Kbps advertised download speed then you won't get much faster than this, but it's always worth trying. For a cap above 1500 you definatly need to tweak. Download Cablenut and VanBuren's custom tweak files. Pick the file made for your advertised down and up speed and re-test.
  19. Nope. :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 3697 Kbps about 3.7 Mbps (tested with 2992 KB) Download Speed is:: 451 KB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Bottom Line:: 66 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 2.27 second(s) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=KUA7NM49M Oops, I'm not on comcast Tried a tracert yet to see if it might be an overloaded node?
  20. Man it's noisy here.

Done. Enjoy the 1 GB of space
  22. And another background. Less icons this time
  23. Whenever I do a large test from your server, I experience complete standstills every few seconds. The route is good, the rest of the time the speed is nice, but those negative spikes kill my speed results: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 3611 Kbps about 3.6 Mbps (tested with 2304 KB) Download Speed is:: 441 KB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Bottom Line:: 64 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 2.32 second(s) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=X9QAOYF9Y Bigger tests only make me slower, when I'm really going at 500 KB/s. :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Connection is: 856 Kbps about 0.9 Mbps (tested with 2992 KB) Upload Speed is: 105 KB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Bottom Line: 15 times faster than 56K you can upload 1MB in 9.75 second(s) Validation Link :: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=V9W3YOGMI After an initial burst to 200 KB/s (way above my cap) the upload speed drops to zero, after that I upload constantly at 126-130 KB/s. Again the standstills lower the average speed.
  24. Anything is better than no internet access at all.
  25. I guess they either don't care or don't know about it. Btw, it's not only the manufacturers's fault, the file system (NTFS, FAT32, etc) also take a fair bit of space for the file table. I guess Linux uses a different way of allocating space.
