Going to a 7200rpm drive in my macbook, actually didn't make a difference in performance. Didn't make it much hotter either.

I have a macbook as well. and i really love the size, i use it all the time. I'm going to be getting a macbook pro real soon.

So you will want a macbook pro then, thats the only 17in notebook they have. If you wanted one with the best screen get the 15.4" because they have the LED backlit display and the color reproduction is perfect. There are a few ways to run windows on a mac, (one actually makes it the fastest windows notebook you can buy ) Their is bootcamp, parallels, and VM Ware Fusion. Bootcamp you have to reboot the computer to get into windows, but you get full benefit of the hardware so you would want to run your games in this. Parallels and fusion allow you to run windows as you are running OS X. And it is actually extremely fast its hard to tell you are running a VM. You can't play games this way because you don't get the full benefit of the graphics card right now. They are getting better they do have some graphics card support but you still don't get the full card. I use parallels and love it because of the coherence mode which allows Windows apps to work right along with mac apps, and you can drag and drop files in between each OS. You don't have to run media center, macs come with front row, and does all of media center (except TV) and does most of it better. Office does work, there is already office 2004 for it, and 2008 is coming out for it very soon. But get iWork which is apples office with it. And its actually just as good if not better, and it reads and writes all MS office formats. I had to use excel alot and i switched to apples numbers (there excel) and no one can tell that i'm not using excel. If you do go for the mac, you get a notebook that can run every app you want, and is secure, super fast, and looks damn good There new OS 10.5 Leopard is quite possible the best OS ever, and just about everyone that uses it agrees. And keep in mind once you get one mac you usually end up getting another one.

You could put it on a PC, nothing works but you could do it.

Give them a call, see if you were suppose to get it. They may just give it too you. If not get the discounted one.

I got one of those shirts too, very nice. Ive got a friend giving me his leopard employee shirt. I also got one of the normal employee black with the little while apple shirts for my wife for christmas. Everytime we go to a apple store she always asks how to get one. That will finally stop :haha:

Alright so for those that don't know Apple's Mac OSX Leopard came out today, and it is defiantly the best upgrade to OSX so far, and quite possibly the best OS of all time. The first thing that I noticed is how fast it is. When you click to open a app like safari, mail, ichat, itunes ect. there is no waiting. It opens as soon as you click it. Even programs like photoshop and Final cut open much faster then before. iChat is actually really usable now, they added a ton of cool features to that. Safari 3 is insanely fast. Pages are super quick to load, and download speed tops my download with no tweaking, thanks to the super smart stack. Here are some screen shots of some of the features. Its kinda hard to get some of these because they are moving so they need video. Cover flow is a real nice view for just about everything, but is really usefill when browsing through pictures. The new real soft menus with the rounded corners are a very nice touch. Quick look is the shit, I push the space bar on anything and see it with out opening anything. This is a real nice feature in safari were you can expand any text field just by dragging that around. very help full for long posts Spaces is my favorite feature. i have 2 monitors and with spaces i have a ton of desktops now. and i can drag apps in-between each space and arrange it the way i want it. Stacks are really cool, You have 2 views the fan and the grid, great place for putting alot of apps. Time machine looks amazing, I didn't think much of the interface at first, but once you use it and see it working you understand why apple did it. It works really well. And looks amazing, really hard to get a feel of it from a picture, you have to see it in person. There are a ton of little things in leopard that just make everything so much easier. And the overall interface is just so much cleaner then then any other windows or mac OS before it makes it really enjoyable to use and is very easy on the eyes. I would recommend this to anyone. By far worth the $129.99 for it.
-
HAHA yea you will. It should be good, i think windows users will like quick look and stacks
-
No download of it, just shipping http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/ but it should come with it if it hasn't shipped yet.
-
That should have leopard. It might be worth a call to see if it does, but I think apple was holding off on shipping new computers till after today so they come with leopard. But if not its just $10 for leopard if you purchased a computer from october 1st and on that did not come with leopard.
-
Thats why I love my macbook. The size is perfect for me. I hate caring around a big huge notebook. Plus it looks really good
-
That just really sucks tho. those iBook's are a great notebook
-
:haha: that sucks. Can you just try to run the reinstall again? DId you try and do a upgrade or a new install?
-
got mine already done and installed. took about an hour. and from playing with it for 10 minutes I can say by far this is the best OS ever, tiger was really good this is Absolutely Great

yes. and your compaq recovery disks are probably not going to work with the new motherboard unless its a compaq/hp branded motherboard
-
Even if you put the same exact board in you would have to reactivate (unless it was a dell, HP, etc.) windows checks a few numbers that would be unique to each board if they don't match up it knows you have a new part and makes you reactivate when there is that big of a change. I am 100% sure this happens because ive had it happen to me probably 12 times. When you change a number of components in a system windows makes you reactive. you can add more ram and wont make you reactivate, but if you add ram and a video card it may make you reactivate. When you make a substantial change to the system windows has you reactivate. the reason windows didn't work for you is because it doesn't have any drives for anything on the new motherboard. I have had it were it works sometimes when i change a mobo, but others it doesn't work. I never recommend anyone swap a motherboard and not reformat. its pretty stupid not to, windows just doesn't work right after.
-
there is some truth to this, the OS will work, but you will have to reactive windows again.
-
No its not. Intel only has a handful of processors that go over 3.0Ghz now. Intels new tigerton xeon goes from 1.60Ghz to just under 3Ghz and the 3Ghz is not much faster then the 1.60Ghz.

:haha: that tends to happen. I always order from newegg for all my PC parts. And even all my movies. They are the best
