  1. With the info there, like you said, your cabling checks ok, but if you look at this info >This connection is receiver limited 14.46% of the time. This connection is sender limited 48.20% of the time. This connection is network limited 37.32% of the time. it tells something during the test there was issues, now what they are, if there's something causing interference near and around the modem , sometimes this can be related, they say AM radio can do that to DSL, if you have a phone line filter on the line, take it off or a little bit, and see how things go. Maybe get everything away from the modem, and the lone comming from the wall as well. It's been a while since I had DSL, but hose were some things that caused me issues like that.
  2. Alright, thats ruled out. As to the test they ran , they wont catch an intermittent issue like that. There is a test server located @ Argonne National Laboratories , it's a java based test, so allow the site to access you. I know there's alot in there as far as data once you run the tests, and even more that not many people will understand , including myself. But it will tell you some things that you will understand. Post the results here, when the test is done , there is another tab that you can click that has even more data, go ahead and post that as well.
  3. A node is a device where may connections are gathered , like a switch , only more complicate, and is entirely under the control of the ISP, and generally only has problems of it is a hardware failure. Do you have a router hooked to the modem, if so, is it wireless ?
  4. Maybe you could post what router and version you are using
  5. well that 1% is better then no % I was referring to those red fiber washers that come with the motherboard, some people feel they need to put them in certain places between the standoffs and the motherboard, this way the ground doesn't go to the case, but back through the power supply, then into the main ground, in this case they will use those plastic clips that you just push the MB down onto, and fasten just a couple screws with washers and pushpins or something , I dunno, maybe there right, but still afik, the board needs to be grounded to the chassis or case. But let us know what comes of the components.
  6. This is a good idea. Last week I was at the eye docs for the first time to this guy, my wife and youngest go there blah blah, anyhow , I make conversation wherever I go, so he told me he was in dessert storm, so i couldn't stop myself from telling him thank you, and shaking his hand, he said your welcome, there was a moment of silence, not awkward, he smiled and we got back to the reason I was there. I know it effected him. Maybe he doesn't get sincere acknowledgement for his service to me and my niebors as much as he should. And it's not about politics, it's about selflessness, and personal sacrifice.
  7. I had to set up a couple vlans on my LAN in a linksys WRT54G , I have two webservers that I needed to isolate from the rest , there's two static IP's, as well as DHCP enabled on vlan2, and have dyndns addys for obvious reasons. There working as they should. There all local machines so before setting the isolated vlans I was able to use real vnc to administer them, they can be reached remotely and all is good. However, I still need to admin them, but the way the code is written, I can't access them locally via the vnc client, but they can be reached on the same vnc client from a remote machine. But this is the way I wanted it, other then allowing local access across vlans, I didn't take that inconsideration. My question is do i need to configure trunking betweeen the linksys /cisco router, and the cisco 2924 XL-EN and the 2924 XL, connecting via rollover, or what is the config that I need to allow a management vlan between them. I should say this config was accomplished by telnetting into the router via putty. Here's my config~ nvram set vlan0ports="1 2 3 5*" nvram set vlan2ports="4 5*" nvram set rc_startup=' #!/bin/ash PATH="/sbin:/usr/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin:${PATH}" ifconfig vlan2 192.168.2.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 ifconfig vlan2 up ' nvram set rc_firewall=' iptables -I INPUT -i vlan2 -j ACCEPT iptables -I FORWARD -i vlan2 -o vlan1 -m state --state NEW -j ACCEPT iptables -I FORWARD -i vlan2 -o ppp0 -m state --state NEW -j ACCEPT iptables -I FORWARD -i br0 -o vlan2 -j logdrop ' nvram commit and here's my dns masq config for the webservers ~ interface=vlan2 dhcp-range=192.168.2.100,192.168.2.149,255.255.255.0,1440m Here's the layout of my network ~ WTR54G-----------Vlan 2 port 4------------------> server 1 & 2 | | | | | | | cisco 2924 XL (dummy) port 1 ------------- ftp server 1 / ftp server 2 / other local machines | | Cisco 2924 XL-EN (dummy for now then it will be the main switch later) | | | | | admin station | NAS/ NAS / hp 380 G3 & iLo port There's alot more, but it's irrelevant for my question, I'm sure it's simple , but my studies havent' gotten that far. I know it's in this line right here, I just don't know the language " iptables -I FORWARD -i br0 -o vlan2 -j logdrop "
  8. Good that you know and trust the tech , it really bothers me that there are so many out there that when called on something like your situation, they take advantage of it, it's easy to just say "yep, it's all fried, I'll dispose of that for a small fee" , Iv'e heard it too many times. Either way welcome to testmy.net, everyone here has something to share, so now you do as well, I'm certain you'll find that you can get the answers that you'll need, as well as the other way around. There's alot here, much more then you see on a first glance, once you start diggin in all those topics. When your guy gets done, by all means post everything you can about what went on so you can look back at a later date and call on it Besides, you wont believe just how many people your helping out already by simply posting the part about making sure to install the standoffs ! People search that stuff every day .
  9. Well first off, don't be so hard on yourself ! In the whole scheme of things , (and I say this begrudgingly ) it's just a motherboard , omg did I just say that ? But seriously, that is the first thing that is done when you start your project. Remember that bag that had all that "extra" "stuff" in it ? O know, you know now lol, some people even put those little composite washers on, but the mounts are the grounds, so thats always been up for debate, (to isolate or not to isolate ) . Chances are nothing is fried other then the board itself, Iv'e grounded one out myself when I was new, not that way lol, <said that to make you fel better lol , I actually had the system running, yes, i installed the standoffs, but I installed another HDD while it was powered up, another not really thinking moment of mine, when I pushed the cable end in , the board flexed just enough to make contact with the case :haha: So don't feel bad. Anyhow, I think you'll find that since in the most likelihood that since the CPU never really got the juic it needed (it's REALLY hard to fry a CPU !!! ) and the memory well , as long as that is not what made contact fitrst, which I doubt that would do t anyhow, your good, and Im almost certain there's no way that the HDD had any issues. But then again, it could all be fried :haha: I'm kidding :haha: Out of curiosity, the "expert" ? please tell me this is someone that you know.......................
  10. Cool, so I know that your not actually the station, as that would be bricks mortar, and electronic equipment , so I take it you work for them or you own the station , your an anchor or .............
  11. If your doing budget, you might just use a case that you can find laying around, if your into makin music, then who cares about a fancy case that does nothng ! Maybe there's a used shop nearby and you can pick up a shell there. Far as I know, and please correct me, but you'll need a decent sound card with midi support, remember newegg isn't the only place to get this >>>>>>> http://www.newegg.com/Store/Category.aspx?Category=36&name=Sound-Cards-MIDI-Devices Here are several motherboard /CPU combo deals to choose from http://www.newegg.com/Store/ComboDeals.aspx?ComboStoreID=1&name=CPUs-Motherboards Then again, you could get one of there full kits, and add the sound card !!!!! http://promotions.newegg.com/AMD/Bundle3_2/index.html?cm_sp=Cat_CPUs-Processors-_-AMDBundle32-_-http%3a%2f%2fpromotions.newegg.com%2fAMD%2fBundle3_2%2f156x340.jpg Maybe none of this is much help, because I'm not real certain just what exactly you will need as far as the system specs, I'm sure someone else will chime in on this that knows
  12. What happens when you take a test here ?
  13. Hope you have a great B-Day nanopunk
  14. Right on On that note ( I'm draggin it off again lol ) but does ghost have a way to recover crapped up file structures as if I were using a specific prog to recover data from an HDD that was corrupted to the point of useless ? Iv'e never used it, and I am looking for a multi purpose prog for such thing. I know you've used it for a while no ?
  15. Thats another thing, dude, if your gonna do a gaming rig, for pete sakes set up a raid 0, unless you want to go riad 5 , but thats costly, and just keep a backup on an external because in raid 0 , you lose it all. Anyhow thats what i did, and I never really worry that damn much about an HDD shittin itself , if it does, then so what, use your backup. .
  16. :haha: Nice, I like it Please don't "bump" the threads, it's annoying, and against the rules, no biggie, just people don't like it much. Might as well read through the forum rules Anyhow, the connection issues are going to have something to do with the latency of the server your connecting to, at least that would be the first place i would look. Try and "ping" the server to log the times, also check and make sure that if your good there, then you may want to set a static IP on the machine, then use the QOS settings in the router to make sure that there's nothing else on the network when your playing. I used to set up a "gamiing" profile in the machine, so that when I was playing , there were only the necessary services, and processes running to insure I was getting all the system resources that I could. Might want to set that swap to null in the new profile as well, I never had much luck with virtual memory and gaming.
  17. A bit off topic, but it interests me as to the seek time of these "green" sata drives that run @ 5400 rmp's is around 5-6 ms

I'm sure there's a way, but seriously, if your dad set things there for a reason, then maybe we should all respect that, I wouldn't want someone going against what I did to protect my family. You know ?
  19. i don't blame you at all ! Here's a few results from the PS on newegg, not that thats the whole system, but thats a gret place to check out other peoples thoughts on any given device This might not be the same one, it actually looks like one of there lower end ones. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16817174026 The video card.......... http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16814143071 Motherboard........http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138026 XP Pro ..........http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=368 Proc ..............http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103771
  20. Well uhm glad to see, I mean meet you tooo Nice warm weather clothes there
  21. That PS is actually really good ryan, I have several hipro's there what I put on all system, mine, or sold. Not only are they efficient, most of them have modular wires, there nice. Another thing, Iv'e not had any complaints, nor have I ever replaced one for any type of failure.
  22. Well there must be a glitch. It's always best to clear the browser cache before test, make a little difference, but not that much. Anyone else with this problem ?
  23. I'm thinking it's a feature that ensures people don't spam the crap out of the board, it may be set to short. Dunno, just a guess, but I'll forward it.
  24. It's really hard to make that claim, since all electronic components could be working flawlessly one day, and the next, there gone. So maybe don't pass judgment so fast ? But I wouldn't know because I haven;t had the machine in my hands either. Are you sure that it's the motherboard, and why ?
  25. Not necessarily, "system32 " is NOT a virus, it contains critical system data, and should not be messed with if you don't know what your doing, ... at the same time, someone that knows how to inject code into different files, can and does put nasties in different places.... Now, "system32.exe " can, and most the time is a virus of some kind. There's a big difference between and executable program, and system file.
