ok this is a great opportunity to utilize the testmy.net bandwidth monitor tool, or Automatic test. Just set the test up the way you want it, and reduce that window. Open up a new window to do your normal browsing. This way, since they specifically requested that you monitor your bandwidth, you have a documented receipt of bandwidth testing, there gonna love it Start as soon as possible.

Can you post a screenshot of the network connections page ? Also, check in dial up, and such to see if there is anything else configured. Be careful what you do though, you don't need to disable, or delete something that you need.

Is your brother using the same base station ? Are yo paying the same thing as he is ? Have you asked customer service about this ? The bandwidth allocated within the modem has everything to do with the speeds you will get. Think of it as someone putting a block of wood under the accelerator pedal of car.

First thing to do is to install each operating sytem on each separate disk. Put one drive in the computer and install XP on it. Take it out. install the second drive and install Linux on it. Take it out. On the drive that has XP, set that drive as master, and set the Linux one as slave . Install both drives in the computer. Start the computer and it will boot into XP. Goto windows explorer, tools -> folder options and click the view tab. Select "show hidden files and folders" , hit Apply, then ok. Expand My Computer and select the "C" drive. Locate the "boot.ini" file, right click it and select "Properties". Mkae sure the "read only" button is UN CHECKED, click apply,then ok. If it's already unchecked, click cancel. Double click on the boot.ini file it should open in notepad. Under the "Operating Systems" heading, under the XP entry on a new line add this entry: multi(0)disk(1)rdsk(0)partition(1)Linux="Mandrive" /fastdetect . Save and reboot. Both XP & Mandriva should be listed in the choices menu. Select Mandriva (hopefully) lol Iv'e never dome it w/ a sata and a IDE though. And seems like there was something else in the entry where I put " linux " , because it has to see it, and I do't think it see's " Linux" You know what though, you might as well just use " wingrub " , it will work, but stil, not sure about the sata thing.

I'm guessing "a, and b " are in another room.So they cannot be connected before the switch for test purpose ?? And the switch is just that, nothing more. So the problem could only be in two places. That I can see anyway. Assuming you have tried other ports on the switch, as well as rules out cabling issues. can you see all machines on all other machines ? Check the configuration in the network settings comp "b" . Somewhere in "b" it's blocking incoming connections, check your firewall settings, or any other network software that "b" is running. If nothing else, just insert the XP install disk, and run a network utility. Or have you already done those things ?
