Extremely Inconsistent Speeds using router
mudmanc4 replied to deluxe8520's topic in Networking and Hardware
Other than # 3 & # 6 , you have total of 5 connections open to ip's that I at least cannot access. So I would try and find out what they are. Google them , and or just type " netstat " instead of " netstat -n" and it will give a bit more info . As for the router issue, maybe go through your settings, and check them all , last resort , if you are familiar w/ the router, then reset to factory , and go from there. I just think something is hoggin your bandwidth. But it doesn't corrolate w/ getting good speed w/o the router. Do you have cablenut installed , or any other registry tweaking program? Edit: They were gone because they aren't connected right now, they may be back again at any time . -

Well, there are many people who feel kapernsky is great, although I do not have any personal experience w/ it, I have heard more - than +. AAR, yes goto your command prompt, and type in "netstat" , there are other guru's here on this particular subject , I use it to see if I can recognize the addresses shown that have established connections. edit: If I don't recognize the addresses, I type them into the address bar , and see where they take me : ) -

Ok, are you familiar w/ " netstat -n " , type this in you cmd prompt, to see what live connections you have running. I don't see a correlation w/ the router though. What are you using for a software firewall? -

OK, Try this test, it's a 47 MB test, post here. http://www.testmy.net/dl-48638 -
Not to sound like an a-hole , but what would you rather see, a higher score, or reality? Do a ping test to both, what are the comparisons? Who are you much closer to? How much network traffic must you go through to each? What times of day are you testing, compared to the network area , compared to the business time of day, compared to what route your data must travel? How many hops from yours to theres , and yours to here? Are you testing on the ISP servers that you are connected to , and pay? If so, you will be testing on there servers, in there network, where there is no traffic. For starters.

If I have a question that is more or less in depth, I come here, if I am passing by the local small fix it shot, I'll go in and hava a chat w/ them. As far as the hardware goes, to me , I see that just as difficult as cleaning myself after a bowel movement. You kinda get used to it , right? -
I haven't heard anything from Ca3le, I know he is in the middle of a big change for testmy.net , . I'm thinking this replaced those graphs for some reason or another. http://www.testmy.net/tools/database/db_search.php?type=user&q=mudmanc4 I'm not sure about mchsi.com , but hang in there guy's, lets see what he has to say about it. Check back , I Pm'd him asking to have a look at this thread. This is his life, so I'm sure he'll reply soon.
-
Ah yes , I remember that , let me see If I can find it. I do however remember that a couple of years ago.
-
Are you referring to this type of graph? http://www.testmy.net/tools/database/host_stats.php?host=rr.com¬boolean=1
-
My host rr.com , is working , as well as the graphs, I am not aware of this being part of any data loss, But I will however contact Ca3le , the site owner, and direct him to this thread.

Welcome to the forums of testmy.net sathi , do a couple of speed tests, and post them in one of the " post your upload " or " post your download " threads.
-
You posted your connection speed to be 256/64. The first # " 256 " equates to 256kbps download cap, in other words , this is the maximum amount of download bandwidth that your connection will be allowed. The same with the second. I'm not saying you cannot get a bit more from this, but you must do a bit of " tweaking " with such programs as cablenut, and a few others here on testmy.net in order to achieve the best performance. I should say this. In your modem,( is sent ther from ISP servers when you turn on your modem) there is a small program , that may or may not be called a " boot file " , this file adjusts the flow of data in , and out of your connection. This is what your ISP, or internet service provider , uses to control how much bandwidth your connection will be allowed. The more you pay, the more you get. In some cases, there isn't much option.
-
Well, considering you have DSL, and you are very close to your cap, Not a bad connection. You could try some of the tweaks that are posted here on testmy.net, and you may get a bit more. This is a good start, installing cablenut works wonders for many, find the right ccs file for your connection after installing cablenut, reboot , and try again. : ) http://www.testmy.net/topic-1013
