1. I swear to mother earth, If there be some sort of zombie attack, where people in offices around the world start chewing the skin from one anothers skulls, it will be due to windows non-operating if you can call it a 'system'!!!! How in the hell do you windows people make it through the day without hiding in the corner white haired and pure red eye balls , chewing your arm flossing with your tendons? Huh ? Tell me please, because I'd like to know how it is you can mass even the most remote existence with this POS hunk of old technology warmed over and regurgitated into your mouth. After years of playing with people lives, I swear , the 'programmers' that sit high and mighty, yea I mean stoned off their asses on alien crack -- ass crack that is, at micro talent , oops, I meant microsoft dick !!! How the raging fuk can a system not acknowledge THERE IS A GD PROGRAM RUNNING --DON'T DECIDE TO 'AUTO RESTART' !!!!!!!! simply to install the Wednesday 'fix' , which fixes nothing at all, geezus H pissant cok knock sonova goat herding bastages !!!!!! And don't try and tell me 'it's a setting' , IT SHOULD NOT BE A SETTING - EVERY OTHER OS KNOWS BETTER THAN TO SIMPLY SHUT ITSELF OFF !!!!!!!!!!!! An hour and a half into a huge install and mere minutes away from completion , windows simply fkng restarts demanding I 'do not shut off my machine' -- hey , sludge of ditch cat afterbirth --LEAVE ME DO AS I CHOOSE WHILE LOGGED IN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For the love of sphagnum postmortem petemoss get your squishy head out of your shaved carcass and THINK for a change !!! Stop caressing your testicles in the mirror while boasting your the most widely used system on the planet, when you cannot even bring one system together functionally !!!! Sure , people use it because it's cheap, kinda like that dude that smokes 10/1/4 shit, because hey, it's cheap right ? I despise everything about you micro-rot !!!!!! Yes, this is the beloved '7' , you disgrace the number 7 I'm telling you. Last known functioning operating system microshit sent out was 2k-server, after this it's been chasing it's ass around looking for a dollar to make another stoopid translucent placeholder to feed the people more bull tripe through a tube!
2. Sad a company must get the law of paper on their side in order to keep customers lol
3. Maybe the gui is easier to get started with , is this what you are saying ybnra--- ? As the base system differs very little from any other debian based unix system. Hell , I've seen very productive servers running on ubuntu.
4. And this is why ubuntu was created, well for a couple reasons, none the less, having a clear and concise interface, ease of use and usability, so that people stuck on a windows machine had the chance to use their computer , without being tied to microsoft, and in fear of using something called linux. Pretty much all flavors of linux gui these are reletively the same as far as navigation, so now that one has used ubuntu , can run almost any linux distro. Outside of sabayon xfce or the likes. And ubuntu , is the best for general use on a laptop or local machine, the community is huge , so for the most part , specific (x the lexmark) wireless and printer software are available.
5. Yea hey, it is what it is, and if the girl gets more smiles with your attention towards her, and the children , then you have a goal then
6. Sorry to be a spammer here, but your statement is hilarious What are you watching Dutch sesame street for ? No , nevermind, I'll leave that one alone ( I did see your child in your pic, just smiling and saying hi ):)Welcome to testmy.net
7. I just mean to say , like ubuntu , it is a 'fork' or debian , or a 'flavor' or 'dist' of. And libreoffice is what actually started it all , outside of the windows conglomerate that is. Programs or operating systems that were the 'root' or the start or where so many others have come from. And you'll do fine using the gui, it's come a long way. Hell I don't mind using centos or debian gui, aside the fact you can't do shit unless you open a shell and have sudo permissions.
8. I did mama , it was good enough to place in the TMN member quote of the day thread <br > </br >I don't mind coding basic html , but where da editor go ? Did you do the 3.4 ?
9. Hahaha ' it's so bad , people aren't even stealing it' roflmao x 10 Internets, that might go in my sig hahahaha
10. I have no idea why I have collected this old crap. I shouldn't say crap because everything i have is in working order. I have used it for teaching myself the things that I want to explore. I'm not fluent at all that I do by any means, but I can take a pile of seemingly trash, get it put together as a server / workstation or both complete with a dynamic site behind the desktop (or no gui ) and start the xserver remotely gui access. Or have several VM's running to host any number of desktops / servers/site locally, nat them for remote access as if hosted in a datacenter, with no more then old 'stuff's ( aside the VM's I use a 64 bit intel for that ), configure a firewall appliance along side telnetting into a cisco switch and allow specific traffic through specific hard ports and or soft ports. And have fun doing it. Enough with the boring, but this all started with me when I quit gaming, after building my own systems and learning about clocking everything properly, something clicked on and I've just been on a constant quest, to 'do something' with my brain since. The latest 'thing' aside the daily grind, is a perl URL shortener, should be fun
11. Hey ninja, been there done that, evercrack around 12 years or so ago, wife started telling me I needed help hahaha I DID, so I quit cold turkey, stopped the monthly server, and wiped the drive. Hurt for a bit, but then again , what addicting that you leave behind doesn't haunt you for a minute until it fades to black ? AC3 I might get after christmas , maybe. I started over at the first one a couple months ago , have not touched it since. Ran through the two half life's and started the easy and rather boring portal, which grew old in less then a few minutes. Guy's keep things in perspective, before they keep you in chains. ( as i sit here surrounded with enough tech to choke me ) DOH!
12. right on mama I don't blame you for sticking with it, I enjoy staying with root programs and even OS's, such as debian and or libreoffice .
13. If you want to use apache open office instead of libroffice on ubuntu~ First un-install libreoffice sudo apt-get remove --purge libreoffice-core Install apache open office 32bit: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:upubuntu-com/office sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install openoffice
If your running a 64bit OS continue on~
sudo apt-get install libxrandr2:i386 libxinerama1:i386 If you get an error and a fail, change the permissions as follows ~ sudo chmod a+rx /opt/openoffice.org3/share/uno_packages/cache/uno_packages
14. No, thank you I really have not dealt with this at all. So any info is more then welcomed. My only knowledge is the short research I've done to have a clue how to word my question. As you can see in the SH, this is a constant bombardment, as you say this is likely not anyone tryig anything bad, I cannot prove that. As everything has it's purpose, until i find it's purpose , while the firewall is already flagging it by my default settings, gives me a reason to question it. And I used just about everything I have , but the firewall is blocking it from getting inside, so unless I reconfigure things I wont be able to see what it's attempting. I like my networks to be clear and clean of 'static' or unwarranted useless noise. In fact last time I contacted ISP support they informed me they would not support anything until I removed 'whatever firewall is blocking them from getting in' , which I did get a kick out of. Why they would want 'in' past the modem is beyond me, then again I'm no cable tech either.
15. Yes I did, in fact entirely new to me Partimage has opened a new door for me.
16. Yep looks ok although your downstream power level would be better off closer to 0 , what you have afaik should be working fine. Here's mine . And select, or click it goodwin
17. Your close mama, first it was staroffice, then sun bought the rights, then oracle bought sun, they called it oracleoffice, and derived another fork, then about the same time two dudes from oracle decided to take matters into their hands and made thedocumentfoundation, which in turn released libreoffice , while oracle released openoffice to completely free and open source project now called apache open office. Yes, I had to look that up lol .. and I believe I have that correct -- or close enough to call I just wanted to add a bit of depth to your already good comment about libreoffice So you see, this is all one 16 year old gentlemans fault [ Marco Börries ], in 1984, who started star office -- thank you
18. I've not had much experience with multicast, never really had a direct issue to deal with it at this point. So I've read ietf's report which left me with a much better understanding. At the same time , the reason I started looking into this, is my local firewall appliance is showing steady and constant attempts to infiltrate the the internal network. Recognising the offending IP sets, this is hundreds, in fact the entire subset attempting to access. Ha you say , must be the ISP implementation to collectively control their networks -- yuuk !!? !!! Since as i understand this, IGMP exists above or outside of the network layer , what could these attempts be used for. I have a few theories, but this is the wrong section of the forum to go into that lol My question to those in the know on this subject, what if anything will I lose by blocking these pings, in fact it's scanning ports as well , generally on :64 , at the same time , I see trillions of attempt on many lower ports, which is my concern. As port 64 as well s many lower ports, are used to easily infiltrate and inject {place something disgusting here} Below is just a few, you can see by the time stamps. And at this time only one IP is hitting me, where many times it's a steady barrage .
19. I made a mistake, yum is a different package manager, you can use the following In case you want to do it the easy way Accessories ~ root shell [or just a shell and type the following in any shell] sudo aptitude safe-upgrade You'll be asked for the root password. OR if you would like nothing new installed, simply the latest of what you have -- sudo aptitude --no-new-installs safe-upgrade Poof , system will search for updates, and implement them , so that the rest of your system is not negatively effected. Done. Updated to the latest version of the stable release.
20. You sound like you'll fit right in around here, welcome to testmy.net
21. Did you open a shell and type~ yum safe-upgrade And be done with it ?

I wanted to reply to your topic, since it's been a bit and no responses as of yet. My thoughts are more people that sign into this new provider will be looking for a few answers themselves, as are you. Welcome to testmy.net
25. WTH did turning 31 do to you , open you up is what it did , I like it !!!! No I lie haha I love it. The main problem with long term school , is were taught the completely incorrect things. Plate tectonics in a history class ? Coexist in a business major ? Look, That system imo is broken. Filled with one sided agenda, that has no relevance compared to the specific line made by the student. If it were Any other way, this country would be thriving, and I mean truly setting the planet on fire , leading those of lesser influence to a greater future. Pure example of how we waste the most precious learning years of our students..... These past to weeks we've gone to two different local high schools, one of which our youngest will attend. Of course I've been over time , directing him , or influencing him to run along the lines of developer / graphic design / NOT end user , anything where he can control the machine that others access, that other do not care nor want to be a part of. So small of a opportunity in both these schools, I was literally floored to the point of thinking of moving even sooner to avoid a silly play in the mud puddle Vs. actually learning some real content that can be used to further future advancement. Speaking to what computing courses are available , in two seperate high schools, whith a combined graduating class of roughly 1400 annually, the furthest they were able to get in either artsy print or digital advertising , in four years , did not even introduce anything close to 3D , no animations, no 3D at all, not even the tools held within any of the two basic adobe photoshop or indesign. FOUR YEARS , and they cover how to change faces in an image of a couple ! And their proud of this , it's on the wall , as a token for all to knowledge and revel over. Amazing. Simply astounding. I had to ask myself , what is it that these children are actually learning for 8 hours a day ? How do you fill a day , without actually challenging a child ?
