Statistical Process Control (SPC) Tool for Broadband?
mudmanc4 replied to Woodlane's topic in General Discussion
At the same time , having a guaranteed speed is rather fictitious and a bit false leading. Since no ISP can come close to guaranteeing any speed , outside of their network, no matter how they are peered . The numbers of any equation at that point of detail would be null and simply a mathematical probability, much less then the expected results of certainty. -
Same thing on most any standard keyboard that does not have roll-over technology

The board is an MSI K7N2-Delta-6570 , where I used dozens of them in new builds quite some time ago. This is a left over new old stock. So anything could be the issue in the case of non compatibility. Although the machine has been running for roughly 15 months, this just started this past summer. I have one more of the same sitting here, at some point I'll have a use for it and we shall see if this is strictly a debian issue. Although if it is debian, it will be ubuntu and all the rest under debian as well.

And no old machines laying around ? No way to place folding in the background and limit it's use of the CPU to a minimum ? Bummer But hey , you have contributed so no one will be able to say anything derogatory Good work in college , stay focused and keep your goals in sight.

Hi Larka Here is a great guide of the speed conversions, in other words, we can see how the numbers convert from Mbps to Kbps On testmy.net data comparison chart page, there is also a converter, to assist in understanding the differences.

Only the time gets defaulted. The machine is used for openfire and backuppc nothing more.

let me put this to you as simple as i can , I am a simple man you know In late 2007 I purchased a new macbook pro. Today I am writing on the very same machine. Everything is done on this machine , it is the center of a mess of systems, all controlled by this laptop. If I remember correctly I spent roughly $2500 on the machine. Divide this by 5 years of use, comes to roughly $500 annually. The machine is still worth just under $500 give or take. ( just checked on ebay ) Take almost any machine other then an apple, use it for five years, and tell me what they sell for. Not only these facts, but please tell me any machine that continually and still will accept any and all updated new operating systems from their company , and run just as fast and accurate like it was when new. It just is not going to happen. prove me wrong and I'll eat my words. I did have a video card issue a couple years ago, apple replaced the entire logic board, memory, dvd drive, battery, handed it back to me overnight no charge. This was three years after I purchased the machine. I mean seriously, where else do you get that kind of professionalism and great business ? If you are serious about your computing, eventually, you will end up with an apple machine. Unless of course your specific job requirements force you to use a windows machine, although i cannot see why. Other then a server.

Really I do need to get it all organized, it's been right before. Many times, then I get going on something and poof, looks like it does now. Thinking of grabbings some angle iron, drilling and tapping a few holes, and making horizontal braces before painting it black. Maybe then I can stuff everything on it. Wheels are of great importance.

Yea i could likely find a way to box up a video card , power it up and make the proper connections through USB, or even firewire possibly. Transfer rates would be choked severely though. So a cheap card would be suffice, have to look into that. And that price is why I have not bought one, they have not gone down in price for years. 50 bucks is malarky and not close to worth it to me.

If you allow your browser to re open previous windows, and have saved passwords I could see a cookie re starting the test ( although I do not believe it's handled this way ), but this must be a fluke, I'm sure ca3le will reply and get this resolved. Are you certain you do not have the auto test running on a different machine ? Or a different username ?

Who's doing what , thread went silent again. I've been bumped to 4th place , Awesome ! this means you guy's are kicking it ! I'll have to go have a peek.

speed differences new vs old test my net
mudmanc4 replied to m Keith Washburn's topic in General Discussion
Hey Jerry, you live in an awesome state ! Same thing around ohio , although this past summer, the ISP has opened up quite a bit ( probably able to afford more bandwidth ) , even offering 110 Mb service. None the less, since mid summer we don't see nearly the slow down at peak usage, in fact things have gotten smooth , much too smooth , time for issues, -
Man that stinks you lose connection like this. If it were cable dsl or anything other then satellite I'de have a few idea's , although there are quite a few experienced beam users here I know will have a few questions for you. Try not and feel to bad, I can get only one provider here, which stinks on ice as well. I'de like to have a choice. At least we have a connection though is the way i see it , lets make it better. During the outage , what type of tests have you done , are you able to connect to the satellite , or could it be dns, over sold beam, or a local box issue. I know you came for answers , just asking a few questions while we wait for others to jump in Does this drop out happen any other time , or just during the auto test ? If so could it be the ISP QOS on bandwidth , throttling ?

Lets see what your working with Ever evolving, changing in every way. Moving around, adding to and taking away from , so try not and laugh I'll make whatever I need out of whatever I have at hand. Looks pretty bad I know, no rack. But the first pic is the heart of it all and what it looks like today. Terribly messy I know, at some point i might set things up pretty, just don't care honestly There is more , just seriously lacking storage. Only a few TB worth which is about filled. Mostly images. This one is my work station on the other side of the office. This image was taken a month ago maybe but nothing over here changes much, other then having to battle constantly to keep crap off this desk , the other one well , not so much lol

These issues are precisely why my opinion is this, no need for the best router, so long as what your trying to do matches what available bandwidth you got to work with. I grabbed an old netgear WNR834b v.2 from a swap I did, flashed it with ddwrt, opened everything up, set access via mac ,WPA-AES and toasted the DHCP server. Plug it up to an old managed 2924 XL-EN only allowing the static IP's managed by pfsense on a separate machine through the port, tri gigabit nics , and get the NAT going with snort, a few blocklists and presto, cheap awesome trouble free ( for the most part lol ) I've got an old wrt54g v.8 flashed w/ ddwrt for when they come in trying to use the handhelds, where otherwise nothing gets in on the wireless. Although I think it's rendered it's final byte, have to look at it when I have some time. I think I have 50 bucks in the entire ( listed ) network. With 60/3 connection , rarely an issue, local streaming isnt an issue either, were not watching more then one HD movie at a time, and if we were it could easily handle it.

Sheese , I did not know about cmd+tab , dam....... I used to use silver something or something silver , don't remember , but it was more a pain in the ass then anything. This will help until I find a solution to screen real estate. Far as the display ports, the 15" 07' MBP only came with the DVI out , no mini DVI, nothing. So I can only use the main screen and one external. Which is always been a serious issue, no matter what shortcuts, since at times it's much faster to drag and drop a file here to wherever , that kicks any shortcut i know is the ass. Yes , I HATE << when is the last time I said that word ? Have to search some time I think, the way any other screen just does not match up to the superior color contrast or white balance to an Apple display. Although it comes in handy while running images, develop on the apple display and compare to what everyone else will see on the old dells. I keep the backgrounds black now for some sort of mental stability, before was grey, but these three new to me 17's are better then the last I kept for myself as far as this all goes. I'de like to keep my shells open on one ( easier to move files around that way), run images on another and CS5 / illustrator ect on the main, and The rest of the BS on the third. Since I've finally got it all worked out where i can control everything here and elsewhere from two keyboards whats left is to get that third monitor going. There used to be a few solutions as far as the expresscard 34, never used it for anything, everything costed a fortune compared to an alternative. Actually I have the monitors, I need to find a solution , to get the signal to them. Maybe I'm messed up, ( likely ) none the less I use the 15" MBP and two 17" flats on either side, one is connected to a KVM for those moments when you simply cannot connect to something locally any other way. And the second is an extension of the notebook. My issue is windows piling up, really becomes an issue. I could use several different desktops, that alone does not solve anything , in fact it screws me up in more then one way, more then I care to deal with. If you've used it regular you already know the issues when working with 6+ apps and several desktops. I've watched different external monitor systems starting around 2008 run anywhere from 800- 1200$ , dumb, unless your loose with your change. Now averaging 50 bones for a USB to DVI , still too much. Suggestions ? I'm not beyond hacking something up to make it work.

My main issue overall, is I feel infiltrated. Less free. The physical issues starts , while typing a local host.domainname , the browser seems to be looking right past the local dns system. Static IP's are not an issue, I misstated in that message. Should have said hosts on static IP's on a local domain each with their own fdqn. I'm all for progress in the browser, at the same time, I don't have time to keep up on which general , natural feature , that has been embedded into the browser for 20 year's will simply disappear with an update. With no option to return it, on someone else's whim.
